So interested in this RP! I already have some ideas for characters, but I'm on doubt about the Sorcerers. When they incarnate, are they self conscious about their existence (as in, that they are sentient magical spirits of awesomeness and wisdom who chose their families/background and have their goal in mind beforehand) or do they start as "ordinary humans" with abnormal affinity with magic?

So...

>.>

<.<

  • Name: Kurogane Ichiro, The Sword that Cleaves Evil!

  • Age: 35

  • Gender: Male

  • Species / Class: Sacred Arm Bearer- Human.

  • Appearance: "The things my sword cannot cut are next to none."

  • Personality: Ichiro is a very honorable individual who fights for his own personal beliefs. Hardened by a long career as a soldier, Ichiro has an amazing amount of wisdom on the battlefield and can sense the potential in allies and enemies alike. His demeanor and manners of speech are reminiscent of a samurai. Ichiro is calm and collected most of the time, though in battle he is sometimes prone to being caught up in the heat of the moment.

  • Skills: To say Ichiro is good with the sword is an understatement, for it is an extension of his body. He is especially skilled in the art of iai, striking far faster with the blade than most people thought possible- while also closing the distance much more rapidly also. Even without his sword, Ichiro is extremely proficient with grappling opponents, as well as creative enough to use whatever is around to serve as a weapon. Ichiro is an able archer and a talented horseman, having learned the arts alongside the way of the sword. Perhaps the thing that seperates Ichiro from most other warriors is that he can briefly tap into inner energies to provide a burst in skill- such as the abilities to temporarily increase ocular recognition, synchronized bodily coordination, and overall output of power during the span of a single swift attack. After he gained his Sacred Arm, the swordsman's physical capabilities rose to be able to wield the true form of his Sacred Arm with dexterity and his natural self-discipline and tenacity had evolved to the point where the man can go through most of a day without food or sleep. Outside of battle, the man is an unexpectedly proficient cook who can make use of just about anything to create a meal for himself and perhaps others.

  • Assets: Ichiro carries cooking supplies, several changes of sturdy clothing and wooden clogs, his regular swords (one katana and one nodachi), his Sacred Arm, and a kit of herbal medicines.

    • Sacred Arm: Zankantou- The Ship Cleaving Sword. Ordinarily in the form of an extraordinarily dense katana, the Zankantou is a blade with an edge that can be anywhere from blunt (for armor crushing) to the point of being able to slice through stone (though such sharpness drains the user every time it is activated and he much prefers the blunt mode should he attack such a hard thing). By fully activating its ability, the sword can grow in size and weight to form the monstrous zanbato form, a longsword of giant proportions that no regular person can wield to its fullest potential. The longer he charges the blade, the bigger it can get- up to a maximum of eight feet. Likewise, it can also shrink down to the size of a short sword, giving the man a rather diverse arsenal. Secondary effects of the Zankantou is an overall increase in physical and mental capabilities, faster healing factor, agelessness (for which he is grateful for considering he loves his fights).

  • Bio: A traveler from distant shores, Ichiro traveled to the empire to investigate the growing chaos, wary it might eventually spread to his own country. Having found that he still has much to learn about the sword, Ichiro now travels the lands of Aldaris honing his skills against man, beast, and nature- biding his time until he can get close to the heart of the matter and lunge out at it. In his own land, he was an elite warrior that was ambushed and left for dead by jealous comrade-in-arms, his body thrown inside a cave. As the close to dead man dragged himself along, he found the Zankantou bounded in a forgotten stone shrine. Reaching out to the blade to finish off his own body rather than let the death by cowards overtake him, Ichiro found that he was healed- and stronger. After tracking down and avenging himself on his betrayers, the man set off for the empire since he was ashamed of "dying" and thus disappeared as a dead man should.

As promised; a wizard. Man, the bio was harder than I thought to write.

Name: Arvel 'Arvy' Tamerlane a.k.a. The Rollicking Fool (This title is simply the least offensive of the many names he had acquired)

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Appearance: After an unsuccessful grift, one might not have time to look his most agreeable. Generally, Arvel, or Arvy as he prefers, takes care to look clean and presentable, as folk tend to trust the clean more often than the dirty.

Though he understands the value of a certain amount of scruff...

Personality: Amoral and all-too-willing to get off his rump and swindle the pants of anyone moneyed enough to cross his path, Arvy believes he is his own conscience and everything else be damned. "I do as I please because I have no purpose" is his motto. He'll run when it suits him and fight when the other guy's out cold. That's his way.

However, there are times (few, mind you) when one could catch Arvy staring into space, nursing a very old hurt as his usually-cold eyes remember. Rarer are the times that he will do a good deed, great or little, when it suits him.

Skills: As a wizard, he's no great shakes. He knows how to read mystical runes, reveal hidden magical traps, that sort of thing. But his specialty is on cantrips and illusions.

Little spells like illusions to change the pips on dice as they land or even the faces of card hands dealt. When things get dicey, he uses sprays of color or oil spills to wrong foot his foes, often times throwing a charm of befuddlement just to keep things fresh. A particular favorite is to make illusions of himself to confuse his opponent while he lines up a knife throw or looks for the nearest exit.

Last but not least, when the chips are down and everything's falling around him, he pulls out the Big One. A complex spell that takes a week of hoarding magic and good fortune, with the most vicious drawbacks of only being able to cast it once a week and gaining the worst luck in the world after it wears off; the Triseptus Invocation. More colloquially known as 'The Jackpot' or the 'Edge-Lander'. For an hour, or two (depending on how much power and good fortune had been accumulated before casting), the caster and his nearby allies are, for lack of a better term, luckier. Their blows land more tellingly, their spells are cast twice as fast and hit twice as hard and everyone remembers tiny little details.

Assets: Aside from the clothes on his back and a few odds and ends (both of magical and mundane nature) in his bag, Arvy carries a mean-looking boot knife along with enough practice to use it (thrown or the up-close method), a few friends of the ill-stripe (both from places low and high) to go along with his wits and silver tongue.

Arvy also happens to be a fair shot with a hand crossbow and a sling, part of the curriculum of his academy. He is known in the underbelly as a fairly accomplished pickpocket, a somewhat accomplished lockpick, a fence of unbelievably good quality and a grifter of great potential. Not a week goes by without him running an elaborate scam or play to make as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time.

Fast on his feet and wits, Arvy Tamerlane is, without a doubt, an effective rogue.

Bio: Once, he wasn't a cold-hearted grifter intent on fleecing rubes and living large. Underneath the sardonic grin and mocking language, was a hard-working initiate from the poor quarters, all bright eyes undimmed by the hardship of his means and curiosity for the secrets of the aether. Not the most gifted of his batch, where others would advance by leaps and bounds, Initiate Arvel of the Academius Arub-han would plod along behind them, progressing in his own way. But he wasn't the jealous sort, he was given the chance to learn magic! Who'd feel jealous with that?

Then by chance or design, he met her.

A girl from another class, brilliant by any standard and beautiful in her own way. Arvy fell head over heels and found a new drive just to impress her. And impressed she was. In the months to follow, his new drive brought them closer. He was successful for a time and they promised each other that they would be married. You'd never seen a couple so close.

But life doesn't work the way you'd expect. The tasks, the subjects, they all got harder. No matter how hard our Arvy tried, he simply couldn't keep up. It mattered little as he still had the love of his life, but with each setback, her eyes began to wander.

And wander they did. On one fine day, his fair lady left him and took up with a young adept not long for an appointment for master-hood. She did leave him with a farewell and a best-of-luck, in all honesty.

Suffice to say, it broke him. Here was a man who smiled as the world bore down on him and turned the other cheek when it smacked him around. He kept a level head and merely set to work when others would be giving up. His lady, the love of his life, was the straw that broke the camel's back. When his class had finally graduated (with our hero somewhere near the bottom), Arvy went and lost himself in the Capital's underbelly where he now swindles the unwary and lives life the way he sees fit.

Okay, figured we could use an orc or two. Let me know if there are any issues.

  • Name: Mak'kal ("Kinslayer", "Flame-touched"), of the (now defunct) Ironclaw clan
  • Age: 24
  • Gender: Male
  • Species / Class: Red Dragon (Humanoid Form: Orc)
  • Appearance:
    • Humanoid Form: Sorta like this. Under the helmet, one would notice green eyes, slightly-protruding canines, and plaited black hair - a fairly typical-looking orc, if you will. When not in battle, he usually wears a blacksmith's apron over protective gear, even if it's mostly for show.
    • Half-dragon Form: In half-dragon form, Mak'kal's eyes turn yellow and his skin takes on a reddish, scaly appearance. In addition, he grows a pair of fiery talons, crimson wings (which grant limited flight) and his face takes on the general appearance of a dragon's, complete with the ability to deliver a vicious bite and breathe fire.
    • Full-dragon Form: The one on the left, of course. In this form, his eyes are red.
  • Personality: For an orc, Mak'kal is oddly quiet and observant, not being the best in social situations. Especially when at the forge or otherwise meaningfully-occupied, his single-minded focus makes him seem aloof and distant. However, when the rage of battle comes over him, he turns into a screaming whirlwind of destruction and will strike at anything that he recognises as a foe.
  • Skills:
    • The orcs are not known for being blacksmiths, but the Ironclaw clan was unique among the tribes for being directed towards incorporating new technology and techniques into their traditional ways. Having been raised by a family of steelwrights, Mak'kal may not be able to create a Sacred Arm or craft flawless dwarven plate armour, but no-one - orc or otherwise - can accuse him of shoddy worksmanship. (It helps that items crafted with draconic strength and flame are usually a touch better than the average iron tool.)
    • As a fighter, Mak'kal was "trained" in the traditional orc combat style of berserking. While in a frenzy, he feels nearly no pain and will use any and every weapon within reach to smite his enemies. By some stroke of luck, he is usually able to tell friend from foe, prioritise targets and sense threats (at least on a subconscious level), but he will not stop until either he or the enemy is downed.
    • Underneath his orcish form, Mak'kal is, first and foremost, a red dragon, and possesses all the relevant traits of one - especially its great strength.
  • Assets:
    • Basic supplies, rations, and decent clothing.
    • Blacksmith's tools.
    • Piecemeal armour and a common iron greataxe, should the need to use them actually arise. (He's capable of making - and using - something more formal, but as it stands, his current gear is cheaper to replace.)
  • Bio:
The Ironclaw clan of orcs found the red dragon's egg in the ashes of a forest fire, taking it as a sign from the long-absent God of Fire that they would soon be free from the clutches of the Darkness. It was in this time that the red dragon known as Mak'kal was born. They called him "Flame-touched".
The hatchling grew and took the form of an orc, and quickly ascended to a place of renown among the orcish craftsmen of the Ironclaw clan. He was strong, as befits red dragons - and orcs admired strength more than anything.
It was a shock to Mak'kal, then, when the chieftain - the one who'd raised him to adulthood - told him that they were going to subjugate themselves to Karnas. "Why?" he asked, in horror.
"Because Lord Karnas is the strongest of all," the chieftain replied, and spread his hand outward, pointing out at the blighted landscape of Aldaris and the looming capital in the distance.
Mak'kal was infuriated, the blood of dragons screaming out in his veins for release as it rebelled instinctively at the very idea of surrendering to someone he knew, somehow, that he had been born to fight. He could feel his skin hardening, his fingers extending into talons, the heat bubbling up in his throat... and through the red haze, he saw the clan's elite guard storming into the tent and his foster father pick up the falchion at his throne, waiting to strike.
On that day, the Ironclaw clan was reduced to smouldering cinders, and Mak'kal had gained a new epithet: "Kinslayer".
Now Mak'kal wanders the land of Aldaris as a travelling blacksmith, seeking employment where it can be found, and just waiting for the right push - something to renew his focus and his rage against the Dark Lord.

Rapier: They spend some time in spirit form, observing the world and learning of it. At this stage they are innocent and childish, though they have more intelligence and insight than a normal human so they learn quickly and tend to understand the true meaning behind people's actions. After they apparently learn enough, or they find a place where they wish to live and grow they incarnate into a form of their suiting.

Kurogane: Accepted!

Arvel: Approved!

Markal: Welcomed!

Moerin: Hmm alright that works.

Ninja: That's better, though even if he's motivated by study, he should recognize that it is part of his purpose to bring an end to the Dark Lord.

And with that, the game starts tomorrow.

Will continue to accept applications though.

So for my own benefit as much as anything, I think I'll make a list of the characters who have been accepted so far. Because it bothers me when I don't have an easy list to refer back to, especially when it comes to what other characters look like. tongue

There. Now my OCD has been satisfied. -n-

Also, jesus, that's a lot of characters. I'm guessing people are going to end up sort of splitting off into smaller groups a lot.
