I always found it weird how Americans simultaneously seem to be obsessed with their entertainers and not give a fuck about their well being. Weird dichotomy there.

Lots of problems. Just like in any other entertainment media. But considering the amount of industry control a small handful of people have, some of these problems stand out as being entirely avoidable, and an active choice.

That concept of "Dance, entertainment monkey" not solely an American issue. Italian football/soccer fans being overtly racist to their own players (and politicians, and in general) comes to mind. But it is an issue. And it feels like black people are often on the receiving end of that use and abuse.
Plus, that same entertainment effectively incorporates the whole "Bread and Circuses" thing.

I'd say that American Football is America's most sacred institution. Put it head to head against almost anything: player health and wellness, religion, urban community well-being, sex trafficking, domestic abuse, political affiliation, valuation of educators, etc. Football will likely win. Particularly in that many people dead set on whatever it takes to maintain whatever is the current NFL-sanctioned form of football and its culture.

All right, so I've been away for a bit due to both Masters program and Lent for over a month, here's a recap.

So few months ago, it turned out that South Korea has a ridiculously powerful and evil ultra-mafia that runs drug and sexual trafficking ring that spans entire Asia. It also has informants and dirty officials in all three branches of government and possibly murdered at least couple dozen police officers and witnesses to cover its track.

Oh yeah, remember how last president got impeached because she revealed to be a puppet controlled by a cult leader? It turns out the said ultra-mafia has ties to that very cult leader as well. This is gotten so very nightmarish large that current president directly launched an executive investigation.

In the process, possible evidences of prominent politicians colluding with Japan to undermine current adminstration were uncovered but that's a whole another story by itself.

As for myself, things are mundane. I have 8 classes a week and every week I have more than a half dozen assignments. Also, I somehow got elected as the representative of my class. Who knew, graduate schools have one of those apparently, and they come with so many chores. It's kinda tedious but normal with my life here.

Wait no, one of my classmate happened to be a member of Korean-equivalent of KKK. Nothing too bad, he just started to openly spout super misogynist things in an university where 80% of the entire student, both undergraduate and graduate school, is female.

Oh yeah, and this morning. who threatened to kill one third of the entire graduate school population. Police investigation and lawsuit are on the way. I should mention he also managed to piss off daughters of some very rich and powerful people, including a congressman and a prosecuter.

I love my life.

Sorry to say Roy, but the more I hear about South Korea, the worse my impression of it becomes.

Also, your life sounds hard at the moment. I though it was supposed to be smooth sailing once you got out of the army. Hang in there man.

To be fair though, most of the time I highlight only the extremes.

And well yeah, I knew graduate school life would be hard...but not like this.

If there's one thing about the sitcom "Friends" that held up, it was the lyrics of the theme song, accurately reflecting what the late 20s/early 30s are like, for me at least. I wish I could offer encouragement for those lows, but hopefully the highs are good. At least, I hope overall it's better than just a grind.

Over here, I'm annoyed that I haven't found more of a way to make a positive anti-corruption impact, frustrated with the world at large for that same corruption and people's apathy to making the world better, angry about my student loan debt, sad about my lack of a love/sex life with no hope on the horizon, an lonely from time to time.
But at least we've got movies and tv shows, amirite?

That reminds me, who here watched Mobile Suit Gundam, aka the very first Gundam anime?

Because by God, Amuro takes severe psychological torments throughout the series and he needs all the Hello Kitties.

I don't recall much attempts at talking things out in that series. Well, there was one and it resulted in one of the parties getting blown up by a solar nuke laser beam.

So...yeah, he can use some Hello Kitty all right.

I think I've only watched G Gundam, Seed, Seed Destiny and when I was a lot younger Gundam Wing, which I barely remember.

I wonder if Hello Kitty will show up in the next Super Robot Wars?

I don't know what Hello Kitty actually does but it makes me hope that the game would consist of nothing but forty hours of tea parties and playing hide'n'seek type games.

I used to love Hello Kitties when I was young.

I still do.

For some reason, I am reminded of Digimon Adventure and Card Captor Sakura. Those two were my all time favorite animes of my childhood.
