Wow. I forgot that even existed.
Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Enezeru: My Idea of "Disney Princess" are any official Princesses by Birth/Marriage in the Disney Animated Canon. This makes the lineup to me (In order of movie appearance) Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Maid Marian, Elionwy, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Kida, Tiana, Repunzel and Vanellope von Schweetz . Pocahontas may get a slide in as she was assumed to be the Native Equivalent of royalty by James I IRL. Mulan, Alice, Megara, Esmeralda etc, are not royalty of any sort and should not be counted as such (Mulan got in only because they needed an Asian Princess and it was probably planned that she would join the lineup back in the China Doll days when she was going to marry a [British] prince)
Since Disney is including Merida and the upcoming Sofia in the lineup, I guess we could throw in Kiara and maaaybe Sheeta as well (Though, I would prefer if Ghibli's property stays with Ghibli). Kairi is strictly Squareenix property and does not belong on the Princess roster unless she features in a movie made by Disney.
Are there any other Princess by Birth/Marriage in other forms of Disney Media outside the Canon movies?

Well, I read that Megara was originally the daughter of the king of Thebes, and even in the Disney telling, she hooks up with the son of the leader of the gods, so I can see her fitting the definition of "Disney Princess" by a certain stretch of the imagination. Those other three you mentioned, though, yeah, I got no idea.
Hmm... Megara does marry Hercules at the end of his movie. And Herc is the son of Zues, the King of the gods. I guess that means that Hercules is a divine prince of some sorts.
It is quite a bit of stretch for me.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceHey, Sofia The First! I forgot about that'un. Well, there are the fairies, Cinderella, and... wait a minute, was that Pegasus pulling the sky carriage? Holy crossover!
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThis is the first I ever heard of Sofia. Interesting concept. Is she Disney's first all-original Princess (as opposed to being based on a tale, or a secondary character from a movie or show?)
Also, was anyone else floored by the revelation that (BIG SPOILER WARNING!) Vanellope also turns out to be a princess? My first reaction was, "Really, Disney? REALLY??" But after some consideration, I guess it does fit in with the movie's plot (since King Candy was an impostor. Besides, they had to improve her situation somehow.

Jane is a complicated case. She 'marries' (or lives in sin with, whatever) the (adopted) son and heir of the leaders of a whole people (of apes, but still), often known as the King of the Jungle. So she sorta-kinda-more or less counts? Then again, I think the Burroughs copyright license already expired, so... moot point anyway?
I will just leave these here. I am especially fond of the ones for Mulan and Rapunzel.
So, can someone tell me where the whole hipster princess thing came from? I just started a Tumblr and I've been seeing it a lot.

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Hipster Ariel. Don't remember how that became a thing.
@Pipping: No Nala? Wasn't she betrothed to Simba?
Nala is offically a queen, not a princess, as she marries the Lion king by the end of the movie. Kiara, their daughter, however is a bonafide Princess.
While for the others, we don't know what happens to them after they marry. But a Prince and a Princess can marry and still reclaim those titles if there is someone else (Brother, Sister, Father, Mother, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin etc.) ruling the joint. Hence why, say Aurora is still a princess after marriage because her and Phillip's fathers are still around ruling the place by the end of Sleeping Beauty.
(Yes, I KNOW Kida and Repunzel TECHNICALLY become The High Queen at the end of their movies. But the merch for Punzie and little merchandising there is of Kida refer to them as princesses and thus Disney sees them as such. While Lion King Merch address Nala as "Queen Nala".)
Besides, being bethroved to a Prince doesn't nessicarily the bethroved is a Princess. There have been numerous times in history where Lords, Earls and Barons have married off their daughters to Princes. And in the 21st century, many commoners too.
@: Jane. She is not a princess. As, again, being the child (adopted or not) of a leader of natives =/= royalty. The only reason I said why I said Pocahontas may get a slide is that, well, European Royalty considered her royalty. James I was even against her marriage to James Rolfe because he though that "marrying a commoner" would dirty her percieved royal blood.

I'm having to learn to pay the priceA line in the end of Tangled reveals that Rapunzel became queen and had a active role in governing the kingdom.

I made an edit addressing that Mort.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceWell, I somehow doubt Disney executives put anywhere that much thought into what counts as a "Princess" for them.
@Chariot: Tiana's is my favorite. But that should surprise no one. I am a sucker for 20's fashion...
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~Madrugada@Freezair, you would love the PatF unit in the current parade at Disneyland.
In fact, have some video. Between the dancer costumes and the float design, it's easily my favorite part of the parade.
Stuff what I do.Sofia The First has premired. All I know is that Travis Willingham is the king and Laura Bailey (his wife) thinks that's awesome, married to a king.
So...thoughts from those that have seen it?
Persona 3 Portable LiveblogYeah, I enjoyed it reasonably well. The animation is pretty nice to look at, I think, the themes seem strong and Cinderella's usage was well done, even getting into her regrets regarding the situation with her stepsisters. And I enjoyed the closing credits theme, "Rise and Shine." I'll be watching the show.
For those that missed it, I don't doubt that there'll be umpteen repeats. Immediately after the film, they promoted a "family viewing party" airing this morning, and there probably plenty of ways to watch it online, not to mention the DVD I'm sure will be rushed into release.

I'll have to try and find it. I've been interested in it.
Looking for some stories?I want to see it purely out of curiosity. And maybe for the cameos.

And speaking of the princesses interacting, I'm surprised that no one's brought up Sofia the First.
It probably won't be that good, and while the princesses will be making appearances, there's no guarantee that they will actually interact. But it may just bring up the idea that they exist or can exist in the same universe, which is definitely a start.
