So, what book is this one based on?

Like so many, my Oz fu is poor beyond the first book(it used to be the first movie, but I was lucky enough to actually get my hands on the first book when I took an children's Lit class, and just kept it, along with Treasure Island, the first Harry Potter book, and an Alice In Wonderland/Through the Looking glass anthology).

Also, I'm assuming this is different from that Oz movie that was once slated to come out around the same time as Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland, but got pushed back(being as that one was based on the first book and all).

What the hell happened to that one anyway?

[up]Was that the one with the teaser footage of Dorothy and the Lion in some hallway?

All I ever saw of it was some concept art actually, so I can't say for sure, but it was CG just like this film.

Lia Michele is supposed to do the voice of Dorothy. Apparently she has taken to the one of the best perks of being a voice actor: being allowed to show up to work in her pajamas. apparently a couple of total drama's V As (Brian Froud in particular) enjoy it as well.

I don’t even know anymore.

It's not based on anything specific.

Would be nice if Disney did their own animated Oz based on those Skottie Young comics being produced at Marvel.

So the villain is an original character then?

So it's like the 2010 Alice movie in that it's an original story? Interesting.

It's about freaking time!

Not that I'm really excited for this, though. It looks Direct-to-DVD quality.

Looks nice, but until I know more about the story, I'm not getting jazzed.

[up][up][up][up] my thoughts also. This animation is not feature-film worthy.

Honestly, I'm not digging this at all. Just another unnecessarily action-packed reboot of a classic book/film.

With this film being an original story and not based on any of the book sequels, I am already hating the idea of this film.

[up] I believe it's actually based on an obscure, not-necessarily-canon sequel written by Baum's grandson.

It might as well be an original story, really.

I'm not excited about this film, as it has a long development history, and clearly there were problems that arose behind scenes.

Eh, a lot of the character designs bug me because they look like they belong in a more humorous movie (the owl, the lion, among others).

So this still exists, apparently.

Two thoughts. First thought, fuck no. Second thought, let's bet on how far back the release date gets shoved this time.

Oh yeah that trailer was released a few days ago. I didn't think to link it here. But oh well, THIS IS STILL GOING ON APPARENTLY. The joke with the jester outfit at the end made me laugh, and the character designs are strong, but other than that, it looks bland.

[up]My feelings exactly. But I like Oz so much I will probably watch it anyway.

That's the kind of mindset that feeds soulless brand-name filmmaking. If you don't think it looks good, don't watch it.

Why are there so many Oz spin-offs and sequels and whatnot?

None of them come close to the original.

Because it is a popular, enduring work who's source material is in the Public Domain.
