@ Topazan I know I'm a few months late on replying, but concerning the Oscar abuse, I'm not saying he deserved it from Trudy and Suga Mama. I'm talking about the times when he received karmic punishments for his jerkass behavior. That's the only time I didn't mind the abuse.

@PSI 001 You made many valid points and I agree with a lot of them. As for Trudy's jerk-like behavior being lampshaded, it still didn't change . The problem with her is that she sometimes injures Oscar when he doesn't decide to do things her own way. Nobody would watch the show if a man were to injure his wife if he didn't get his way. Plus, she had a problem with Oscar looking at women, but yet she looks at men and says oscar is "over reacting" when he rightfully gets angry.

A lot of The Proud Family humor (at least regarding Oscar and Trudy's marriage) relied too much on The Unfair Sex.

[up][up]Yeah, I see what you mean.

Like I said, Penny was definitely had her flaws, but she was also the point of view character. She would generally be the one to receive the Aesop. It seems to me that, absent of a lesson to be learned, she was the character the audience was supposed to identify with.

[up]Yeah, but what made it really... egregious was the apparent lack of self-awareness. Unlike some of the others, I don't remember them ever lampshading the double standard, at least not with Trudy. Sugah Mama's behavior was sometimes played as Hilariously Abusive Childhood, but it always seemed like they were trying to make Trudy sympathetic.

[up]As I recall, this was a show with NO sense of irony. May I direct your attention back to the "Matrix/Piracy/Drug addiction" episode?

Bump

use to like it when younger, but now find it very mean and boring. Oscar's wife and the grandma were practically sadists

the theme's still good though.

It's not that bad. Not the greatest, but there are far worse ways to spend your time.

Eh, some episodes were more mean-spirited than intended, I suppose, but overall I think it doesn't really go much beyond or below "okay." I like that one episode where the kids are in that cultural exchange program. Might be one of the very few positive, decently realistic depictions of Muslims I've seen on TV.

[up][up]Oh, THAT ending. Yeah, I never really watched the whole movie through.

I'm also surprised this series was even good enough for a GBA game.

There is a Cory In The House game for the DS for Pete's sake. (I'm pretty sure its existence was a meme on the Game FA Qs forum for a while.)
