I was just going to buy the Switch version anyway, but thanks for the heads up.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?New trailer for the Switch version, this time with voice acting presumably from the redone localization.
Yeah, it's a lot better, I've seen a lot of screenshots and clips from the original. It's hardly unplayable, but man did they do a rush job and weren't checking for consistency or natural-sounding dialogue.
Feena willing, Xseed will get the next game.
Switch version of VIII will come out on June 26 for America and June 29 for Europe.
I obviously have not played this game to make a fair judgment, but I feel like Brianna Knickerbocker was miscast. Her voice seems too soft to me for Dana.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Another new trailer focusing on Adol Christin. I think he's an adventurer, you guys.
To anybody who played the game with the original localization, how does the one in the trailer compare?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?AKA, all you need to know about the guy who eats gods for breakfast, doesn't need magic or or physical combat to do it, rams into monsters hard enough to knock them around like pinballs, sinks slightly less ships as he does girls' hearts. Oh, and something about boats, too.
GameXplain reviews the Switch port of VIII. Apparently the localization is still bad and the port job was lazy, with the biggest problem being inconsistent framerate in TV mode despite it already being downgraded to 30 FPS.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?So NIS America didn't learn shit from feedback. What a surprise.
Should we demand XSEED Games to get the franchise back?

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Not if it delays Cold Steel III.
But seriously, how does a translation end up this bad? Even assuming the localizers don't care at all, common sense should kick in for some of them.
This song needs more love.I don't think anything will stand as a better testament to how important XSEED was to the translations of other Falcom games than the pig's breakfast that was made of VIII when they left.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"They didn't leave, NIS took it from us.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Which is your favourite translation fuckup? It's hard to choose between Big Hole and Mephorashmoo.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Didn't they redo the translation? I'm surprised the new translation isn't the one that was used for the Switch since the new translation has been out since like March.
I could have sworn they said the Switch version would have the updated localization to start with. Like, I know I"ve heard that in press releases. C Ombined with how crap the PC port was at launch after 8 months to fix it, I hope Falcom takes note of this.
And we have a name: "Monstrum Nox".
I must say, I've only played two Ys games (Oath in Felghana and Memories of Celceta) but this looks markedly different from them in terms of general mood.

This song needs more love.Remember the disaster that was Ys VIII's PC port? Durante stepped in and fixed EVERYTHING. He even included co-op.
God bless Durante. Now I don't have to worry about buying this when I get my new PC.
Durante's fixed a lot of shit over the years. He also fixed the mediocre Dark Souls port back in the day.
I own the Vita edition though I haven't played too far yet. You may want to wait for the Switch version though as the game is being retranslated so hopefully the Switch version will use the new translation. Otherwise, you'd have to download it as an update which...yeah.
