Any relationship where the "violently insane" partner isn't getting professional help is not bound to be a healthy one.

I mean that does help make it compelling.

Like lets be real here most of these relationships aren't exactly healthy.

Jean did emotionally cheat on Scott while he was in a bad place yet she's back together with him.

[up] Wonder if Doc Sam has ever took a look at Wade.

The closest they've come to interacting was in alternate futures. In one future Deadpool and Ellie dug up Doc Samson's corpse for...some reason.

In another alternate future where Deadpool and Death got hitched, the marriage has gone sour after a thousand years and they are going through couples counseling with Doc Samson.

...Deadpool comics.

Oh no wait, misread it.

It's a thousand years after they had a couples counseling session with Doc Samson and they haven't had another session since even though their marriage is soured.

It's gotten bad enough that Death is meeting Thanos for coffee.

I feel like Deadpool is the one comic where you can expect anything to happen in it no matter how absurd it may sound.

Anything except Wade Wilson overcoming his issues and gaining the acceptance of everyone.

He's come close to that, but the status quo asserts itself.

Ben Grimm's never going to be able to stop being The Thing.

Bruce Banner will never be free of the Hulk.

The X-Men will never truly be accepted in the world that hates and fears them.

Peter Parker will never catch a break.

Doctor Doom will never stop trying to one up Reed Richards, and he'll never succeed in the end.

Thanos will never be happy with Death.

Tony Stark will never fail to piss people off.

Steve Rogers will never fail to be insufferably nice.

Though ironically enough, Sabretooth would come to respect Graydon and wished him luck on his presidential campaign. Mystique by contrast assassinated him.

He also sacrificed himself and his AXIS-induced humanity to get him out of Hell (something which I don't think has received any kind of follow-up).

Besides Sabertooth being a villain again anyway.

It was also good seeing Marduk Kurios being used instead of Mephisto.

Yes. He is the best Hell Lord, solely because he has a cool name and is a purple dragon.

The X-Men films have always been about Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto and Mystique. Wolverine will never lose the focus for long, he's Wolverine. Xavier and Magneto are needed to introduce the human-mutant thing, what defines the X-Men as a property of their own and not as just a cheap Avengers team (there may be narrative alternatives, but they may be risky). So... guess who will suffer the Chuck Cunningham Syndrome?

Wolverine's enduring popularity is due to the fact he remains the Everyman Hero compared to most of the idealistic ones. He makes a nice Pragmatic Hero contrast to them as well.

Yes. He is the best Hell Lord, solely because he has a cool name and is a purple dragon.

Random aside but in my Marvel M&M games, we had a wizard describe what sort of villain each Hell Lord was.

Infernalist NPC: Marduk is the Paradise Lost Devil. You can expect him to make deals but he expects to be worshiped and you to really believe in his desire for universal domination. Mephisto is much easier. He'll make a deal just for you to do some Evil Is Petty bullshit like betray your one true love. He's also pretty easy to defeat because he's pure evil so cowardice as well as sloth are part of him. Hela is the middle ground where she has some sense of honor but can just be really dickish to anyone even vaguely associating with Asgard.

That said, Mephisto's still incredibly evil and dangerous despite also being a coward (much like the Ebon Dragon).

Sunspot (a devout Catholic) gave the best advice when it came to dealing with Mephisto: don't. Don't talk to him. Don't even look at him.

One poor bartender realized this too late when Mephisto offered him immortality as a "tip" and he accepted. Mephisto ground the bartender up and used his bodily fluids as ink for a magical contract, since words are immortal.

Don't mess with Fire and Brimstone Hell.

His appearance changes depending on the story, which is part of why i like him.

I think if you’ve made Punisher cool you’ve lost the thread

He’s a broken man on a dumb endless crusade.

I guess he can have cool moments but there shouldn’t be a time when you try to prove he’s cooler than someone who has social connections

Wolverine's enduring popularity is due to the fact he remains the Everyman Hero compared to most of the idealistic ones.

Wolverine is a three centuries old, nigh-indestructible super assassin with decades of experience in war, espionage and wetworks and the ability to bed multiple attractive women despite being short, hairy and often smelling of beer and cigars.

Iceman and Havok are better examples of the everyman.

Logan also tends to be not as extreme as anti-heroes like Punisher.

I wouldn't say that. Frank and Logan aren't that different it's just that Logan gets along with people better (and is more popular so he's on more teams). When confronting Nitro during Civil War, Logan remarked that he still had a comparable body count to the villain.

Probably why Ennis kept trying to have Punisher show how much cooler he was, and Wolverine’s writers responded in kind.

Not in the best ways at times.

It helps that unlike Frank, Logan doesn't enjoy killing people. He's good at it and he's got a high bodycount, but he still feels pretty bad about being so good at killing people.

Frank by contrast doesn't feel remotely bad about killing criminals. He hates them and enjoys killing them. He's basically a Serial-Killer Killer. And according that trope page, Frank's killed over 48,000 criminals so far.

In the 70s, Frank was a lot more merciful than he is now. He would sometimes leave drug dealers alone if they were young or had families he felt bad for. It's easy to see why some people could root for him back then.

And according that trope page, Frank's killed over 48,000 criminals so far.

Wow.
