Yeah, they're not going to resurrect a character to replace a dead actor.

I hope Nakia is the next Panther, both because of the problems with Letitia Wright as an actress and because I just don't think it makes as much sense for Shuri to get the mantle. I feel like she would feel like she can do more good in the labs rather than on the throne.

It is evident in the first film that while Nakia is clearly combat trained, Shuri's reliance on the blast gauntlets indicates she lacks the martial skill the rest of the characters have.

Well, part of it is because Marvel tends to kill their villains, many of whom are still alive in the comics.

Amusingly Killmonger in the comics has an actual back from the dead mechanic, the Resurrection Alter an ancient alien device that crashed landed in Wakanda thousands of years ago. It has brought him back several times after being killed or dying in his battles against T'Challa.

Its also where the source of his powers come from via the alter mutating him into a superhuman and supplies him his own personal army the Death Regiment which are humans he mutated into zombie like beings with the use of the alter.

So if any character were to come back from the dead, Killmonger being the guy would be perfectly accurate to the source material. tongue

....Ill admit, I was again not putting much stake in those theories being true myself, and still am not for the reasons some have brought up, but that is an interesting point.

I do hope it is not Shuri hearing all that stuff on her actress.

In other topics I am curious on how they are going to handle the Atlantis stuff, or what they will call Atlantis if they are changing it for the MCU.

I kind of imagine they will find ways to make Atlantis serve as kind of a foil to Wakanda

Isn't Atlantis public domain? I doubt they need to do that lol.

And its new Mesoamerican aesthetic does actually not contradict the original Atlantis myth since there it was always supposed to be a compleatly different culture from ancient Greece.

Its public domain but with the Aquaman movie having an Atlantis of their own they need differentiate their undersea kingdom from the competition

Sounds kinda dumb. I don't think the public is that stupid they would get confused by two atlantises.

There's a weirdness that even if Shuri does don the habit, they could very well downplay her after the movie comes out.

Due to Wright being an anti-vaxxer making her a pain in the ass to work with. Due to delaying production of the film cause she refused to get vaccinated and only relented when they offered her a bonus.

Like there isn't much reason to stick with an actor who is a hassle to work with.

I imagine if Shuri does become Black Panther it really depends on how well the movie does if she's downplayed afterwards or not. Another billion dollar hit buys a lot of bygones unless she really pissed off the higher ups with antics on set.

but if it bombs/underperforms (it sadly seems likely to me at least) then yeah she'll be lucky to get a few cameos.

I was going off the trope page but that's been briefly edited out for now as people are double checking for sources there

I do agree audiences will generally get that Atlantis is a free reign thing.

[up] Some are saying Shuri could straight up die if she does not become the Panther? Given Ramonda saying her entire family was gone. Unless its a bit of Never Trust a Trailer for the sake of dramatic affect, it would be weird to say that if Shuri was right there.

It probably is. It sucks because Letitia Wright is a dipshit antivaxxer and I think conspiracy theorist? But Shuri is the most probable candidate for a new main character.

She builds the tech, she's next in line for the throne, and she's more than willing to take action. For people who don't know about Wright's bullshit, it would probably seem like Marvel's just snubbing her for being a woman if she didn't become Black Panther.

She is, unfortunately, the obviously correct choice.

Maybe it's from a flashback to the Snap. Shuri and T'Challa both got snapped. That could set up how Wakanda coped without any ruler during that time.

[up][up] It depends who they replace her with. M'Baku? Yeah, that's definitely going to get accusations of misogyny. Nakia? There might be complaints, but that won't be one of them. You can handwave succession issues by having them get married in the Time Skip between movies; it's not like T'Challa had to die at the exact same time as Boseman.

Nakia would be incredible, especially given how astonishingly talented Lupita N’yongo is. There’s even inadvertent foreshadowing, what with Ramonda urging her to take the heart-shaped herb when they’re on their way to M’baku.

I’d also love to see a lot more of M’baku; Winston Duke stole every scene he was in.

It looks like a male form to me

Whoever it is, it's too skinny to be M'Baku or even Killmomger(which would make no sense).

Unless its a bit of Never Trust a Trailer for the sake of dramatic affect

The trope exists for a reason and people do keep getting sucked in by such trailers.

Okoye. Okoye Okoye Okoye. Cannot express my support for Okoye to be the new Black Panther enough.

She's got a sense of humor but isn't excessively quippy (which is one of the main things I really liked about T'Challa), I feel like there's potential for a neat... I dunno, some kind of story thread where she's one of the more staunch traditionalists of the supporting cast but could easily be moving a little bit more away from that given what happened in the last movie, it pre-emptively shuts down any accusations of misogyny for not making Shuri Black Panther (who yes, was BP in the comics, but is also an almost completely different character), and it also marks what I think would be an indication of sensible progress by not requiring the Black Panther be part of the royal family.

EDIT: Also she already has Avengers contacts/presumably Avenger status thanks to being part of Nat's team in Endgame, so that's shweet.

She apparently basically managed Wakanda during the five years T'Challa was gone slash was Wakanda's representative on the Avengers during that time.

After reading the discourse, I'm now thinking Nakia would work the best, if only because Lupita's the only one in Black Panther's current supporting cast that is in this movie to come close to his acting chops.

Im really surprised how little Nakia comes up in these discusions, considering the first Black Panther comes pretty much down on her opinion on how Wakanda should change being the correct one.
