Danganronpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair

Took me a while to find this forum. I didn't know it was classified as a visual novel and not a video game.

But anyways I finally got into Danganronpa with the first one and just finished Chapter 2.

A couple of thoughts so far: -The main character sounds like an imitation of Jason Marsden

-Hiro looks like the secret love child of Ichiban from Yakuza 7 who also wants to be a "hero"

-Sakura acts and sounds like Jasper from Steven Universe

-On the second trial, there were times I ran out the clock on one of the debates and it seemed like that was game over but they still gave me a continue. Will it be like that for all debates?

-also I knew this would be like Phoenix Wright but I didn't know it would be better

-Also OMG it's Among Us

That's just a bunch of wild random thoughts I have

Can't wait to see more.

It's definitely one of the more interactive visual novel series out there, with actual gameplay elements outside of picking dialogue choices.

*watches a video of Marsden recording his voice for Max Goof*

This is why I vastly prefer the original Japanese voiceover for the first game. Megumi Ogata's voice sounds so much better for Makoto than Bryce Papenbrook's.

I believe so. I think it's for scoring purposes (mark deduction for each time you run out of time and require a continue). Though, IIRC, there are a few exceptions to that rule in some instances (if not in this game, then in the other two mainline games).

Just finished with the first game and let me just say that “hope” and “despair” seem to be this Franchise’s equivalence to Kingdom Hearts “light” and “darkness”.

Pretty much enjoyed it overall.

Sorry for the late response. But funnily enough, it's actually one of the many things that endeared me to the grand lore of Dangan Ronpa. Though, that's mainly because I absolutely adore the cinnamon rolls that serve as epitomes/embodiments of the force of good (Makoto, who's the SHSL Hope; and Ventus, one of the two Original Generation characters who are pure light) in the hope/despair and light/darkness dichotomies presented by the Dangan Ronpa and Kingdom Hearts universes respectively.

I'm glad you enjoyed the first game. It may not be as polished as the next two mainline games, but I will always love the first game for being a classic and the foundation of the Dangan Ronpa style/genre of killing games.

So I recently find myself interested in the series after seeing Just Stop’s review of Danganronpa 3

So I’m just curious and I’ll ask this.

What do you think would happen if it was made impossible for Junko to feel despair ever again?

Like maybe Ben 10 uses Alien X to alter reality so that Junko is unable to feel despair again or Coconut Fred asks what if she couldn’t feel despair ever again. Either way, Junko is unable to feel any despair at all.

How would she react to such a predicament?

Well, since feeling despair is something that she gleans the most pleasure from, somewhat paradoxically...that should make her despair. So honestly, I couldn't say.

If I had the power to alter reality like that, I'd remove her ability to feel pleasure from despair. That ought to knock the wind out of her sails.

I'd imagine she'd go insane with anger since despair brings pleasure to her and she can't feel it, she'd feel angry that she couldn't feel something that brings her pleasure without any despair.

Though I would like to see you expand on your own idea of removing her ability to feel pleasure from despair. Like what would it be like if she couldn't feel any pleasure from something that regularly brought her such.

Well, going mad with anger is one possibility. Another that arises, however, is closer to true despair, you might say - just a total emptiness and apathy towards the world. Without any drive, she'd just kind of...give up and waste away.

The answer is probably suicide again, but a lot less theatrical in this version.

Yeah, very much a "fuck it" sort of reaction.

Which is honestly kind of how I wanted Theater!Junko to close out DR 3, though that admittedly wouldn't have really been in character.

The Switch port will contain four games, but Ultra Despair Girls isn't one of them. The fourth "game" is just V3's bonus mode.

No, the fourth game is an expansion and sequel to V3's bonus Mode.

I meant to game like the games: Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3 Killing Harmony.

If you mean the announcement of a "danganronpa 4", then no there wasn't one.

But there is a new game. Just not a killing game.

Some people did look at how Danganronpa S is still rated M for most of the same reasons the mainline games are, so a few people think Spike Chunsoft is pulling a Scott Cawthon and disguising a new game as a harmless spinoff.

Pretty sure that M rating is because of the character interactions in that mode.

M because Miu Iruma is a character.

Seriously tho, we know that Japan's false advertisement laws didn't allow World End's Club to hide its nature as a child-friendly adventure game, so I absolutely don't see the opposite being allowed for DRS.

I do wonder if there will be some hint of the potential future of the series regardless. No idea how plausible that would be, but I'll keep an eye on it regardless.

Well its a successful series so the window is always open for a new installment.

Just depends if they some inspiration or they feel like wanting more money.

So I had this idea for a hypothetical spinoff where a killing game has Gone Horribly Wrong… for the Mastermind that is. The Mastermind finds themselves hunted by the participants of a killing game and must either survive long enough for authorities to arrive or escape from the place they put the participants in lest they either get killed a normal way or worse, be forced to experience an execution that they originally planned for the participants.

Best part is that you could be able to possibly use anyone for this.

• The cast of the first game regaining their memories and end up seizing control from Hope’s Peak Academy.

• A crossover where an attempt to spread despair across the multiverse has been thwarted and the mastermind is being holed up in their base of operations while characters from other media hunt them down. I went into more detail here

• One that uses original characters where they deliberately sent themselves into a killing game and an outside force helps them seize control.

The latter two have more potential since we’d get new executions like for three examples

• Getting caught by Bowser nets you an execution where the Mastermind is dropped into lava and then crushed by falling debris.

• Getting caught by a Ultimate Vigilante has the Mastermind be tied to a train track while a train is approaching, they find out that they can get up and attempt to escape only for the train to drag em by the chains into a cactus field before blowing up

• Getting caught by I.M.P. has them open a portal to hell to throw the mastermind into where they are greeted by the various people the mastermind got killed.

Thoughts?

The mastermind would still be themselves after all.
