I never finished 2033 and never got Last Light so I can do it now, so with updated graphics, a two-in-one pack, and simplified controls for 2033 I can get behind it now.

That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.

There's more than upgraded graphics. There's a good deal of new content, I've noticed shooting ranges where you can play for bullets in all the stations I've visited, 2033s somewhat clunky way of doing things has been upgraded and there's journals for you to collect. And keys oddly enough, they seem like the same ones from Pavel's DLC in Last Light but I haven't been able to find out where they go to. I haven't seen what's new in the Last Light half. I'm only just going up to the surface for the first time with Bourbon.

Still, $50 isn't a small amount of money and I can get the hesitation. I might not have bought this if my 360 and older Metro games were still in my possession.

Noticing all the new things I have to wonder what new things are in Last Light.

Well, I beat the 2033 half of the game and it was pretty great. They changed and added a lot of things. Spiderbugs in Д6, lots of new hallucinations in the city and with the Dark Ones. Everyone also got their appearance updated to match Last Light. The final climb to the tower is also different, you have proper gunfights with Demons the entire way up. Plus there were lots of extra little scenes added in across the game.

I got the good ending, which is something I've never actually gotten in 2033. It actually surprised me a bit, all the dialogue leading up to it had me think I hadn't made it.

Is all that new stuff worth $25 though? Eh, I'm not sure but I absolutely loved all the changes they made and the graphics are quite possibly the best I've seen in anything.

I'm going to do another run through in Ranger mode and get cracking on the updated version of Last Light.

[up]So you'd recommend buying redux over the original?

Oh definitely, I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume Last Light got the same treatment.

Even if it didn't the Last Light Redux comes with all the DLCs included so it's still a great deal.

I've been playing 2033 Redux on Ranger mode, and it's obvious that the game wasn't design to be a first person shooter. There are too many lulls in the action, it makes the weapon modification system and trading pointless, and there are too many times where you were clearly supposed to sneak through.

Going through Last Light Redux. It's gotten the same graphical update as 2033 and the lighting is incredible.

Fewer things added than in 2033 Redux but I've definitely noticed that some scenes are longer, dialogue has received small changes and there's several new doors and areas opens.

The keys and safes are scattered around this game too. Seems like they've added a key and a safe in almost every level of 2033 and Last Light, I'll have to find them all.

I have to say I enjoyed Last Light more than 2033. Better story and levels. If only it still didn't have that bullshit Karma Meter.

I almost regret not buying the discounted version of this when it appeared on Steam as a pre-order, but I don't really like taking the plunge on paying for something game wise if it's new as I don't know how other folks are coping with it.

I wish that in the next Metro we were given some more ammo types.

You got the dragons breath shotgun shells and incendiary .44s in Kshatriya, I can't see why we can't switch between them like we do the 5.45s and the military grade 5.45s

Last Light felt a lot more "video game-y" to me — especially levels like the swamp and the catacombs that were essentially "okay, wander around aimlessly for a while — don't worry, the level design will lead you to the right place — and then before the level ends you can have a nice boss battle". That's not bad, per se, it's just that I prefer Metro 2033's more "organic" approach where the climax at the end of a level was provided by a plot point or cutscene instead of a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere.

I sorta liked 2033 more in terms of story and levels. The Great Library and your first time on the surface with Uncle Bourbon are still some of my favorite memories.

Mind you I really enjoyed the swamp and exploring the surface with the Dark One in Last Light though.

Would you guys recommend Metro 2033? Or Last Light? Because I'm interested in trying this new redux thing out.

Get both, they come bundled in this neat $50 thingy.

But if I had to chose one I'd go for 2033. It's the first in the series and better than Last Light in my opinion.

Get both but wait for a sale, would be my pick. I like the Metro games, but not anywhere near as much as I adore the Stalker ones. The Metro levels are way too cramped and claustrophobic for my taste, but of course your mileage may vary.

If I know the Great Lord Gaben, Praise be to His Name, the two titles should appear in this year's Winter Steam Sale.

So I get 2033 and Last Light Redux and was enjoying the former...until I got to the part where you have to go through the frontline of the post apocalyptic live fire Eastern Front reenactment. Now I managed to sneak/shoot (using my silenced revolver) my way through the Reds but then I run straight into a Reich strongpoint filled with guys who tank multiple assault rifle bursts/shotgun blasts with little cover on my part. And I keep getting butchered.

Am I just supposed to get better and shoot my way through or is this a trick/side route I missed? The commies were easy enough to sneak by but the Nazis only one bright approach, covered by a dozen guys and at least one machine gun.

Unless they dramatically changed it in the Redux, there are a few ways through that level. There's one route where you can sneak through without actually having to kill anyone — if you stop and listen to a scout reporting to an officer in the Red side of the lines, you'll overhear them talking about it. You can also kill a few people and sneak through the hole that this makes in their lines — shooting out lights is very helpful for that. Alternatively, you can just murder everyone and waltz on through, though apparently that's what you've been trying.

Yeah, that's what worked out in the end. I cheesed the game's AI lured the Nazis into the range of a donated Red machine gun. I just saved Sasha and I'm heading to the surface again.

Beat 2033 and cleansed the Dark Ones with nuclear fire. Gonna start Last Light soon. Anything I should know about that one? Any items or guns that need to be grabbed early, etc?

[up]Hmm, I don't know, really. I've only just started really playing this game and its predecessor recently, without the aid of guides (much) so I've probably missed more than you did.

Last Light is confusing. I'm trapped in an area with no real idea of the way out and every Commie that was there to kill is already dead. Plus the area is full of gas. Plus I'm running out of filters. Argh.

Yeah, my main complaint about Last Light is that a lot of the areas are much less linear, but there aren't any additional tools to help keep you from getting lost, so it's easy toget turned around and wander at random until you get bored or die. (Well, that and I felt like the level design wasn't as good in general — a bunch of entirely blatant Boss Areana areas and enemies that show up at the end of levels just to provide a gratuitious boss battle that adds nothing to the plot.)

Decided to give the rest of Last Light the skip to finish Metro 2033 Redux. After the Dark Ones mind control made me fall off of the Ostankino Tower about a dozen times, I decided to shoot the Dark One and watch the rest of the motherfuckers burn.

I mean, screw you guys. Even with the moral points which I think I had, there was no way after watching Artyom plummet that many times I was going to be mister Nice Metro Dweller to you Dark One b'stards.
