Apparently a bunch of people missed the memo that the Troper Works page is not supposed to be used to index unpublished works, because there's a whole section devoted to it, some of which are in the wrong namespaces.

Well, someone has to go through each of them, making sure they are correctly put on the Darth Wiki, and cleaning that out. And I don't have all the time in the world (I already took care of one, as part of a separate Wiki Talk thread), so this thread. I'll try to nail a couple more tonight, but help is appreciated.

Alright, got about 5 or so pages taken care of. I'm focusing on the pages that already exist on Darth Wiki first (and just need to be in the right index/off the wrong index).

Probably enough for me tonight. I'll hit this up tomorrow.

Just for clarification: Everything on the Troper Works index that isn't published yet must be moved to Darth Wiki?

And leave a Redirect in its place, if I'm reading How to Move a Page correctly?

edit: And also request to have their discussion pages (if they have any) moved to their new namespace?

Sorry for all the questions; I've never done anything like this, but I would like to help without leaving a mess for someone else to pick up after me.

Mainly, we're looking at the stuff listed in the "Unpublished" section of the page. If it's already in Darth Wiki (meaning it's in the Darth Wiki namespace), we check to see if it's indexed there (see Unpublished Works), and move it there if it isn't. After that, we take it off the Troper Works page.

Works that aren't in the Darth Wiki namespace will have to be moved to that namespace, but we'll do that later. First is focusing on clearing the works that are just indexed improperly.

I don't think there will be any problem pages outside the "Unpublished" section, but we could check that after we finish clearing out that section.

Fix indexing of the Unpublished Works folder. Okay, I'll do that.

Wait, for things that are things like "Literature / Name Of The Work", do I put them in the Unpublished Works index as such? Even though we'll have to go back there and switch "Literature" with "Troper Works" later anyway?

I ask because every work I see listed there is already in the Darth Wiki namespace.

Also, looking through Troper Works, it does mention that unpublished works can be listed there. Should that be erased as well?

Please read up on how namespaces work here, since you don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say.

The general policy of unpublished works is that they shouldn't have any wicks on the main wiki itself. Since the Troper Works page seems to be a little schizophrenic about how this is handled (compare the top description versus the editor note), I'm using that rule as a basis for cutting them off of it. Of course, a mod is free to tell me this is not how this should be handled, in which case I'd gladly move the stuff I did back.

Oh, I just read again your post [up][up][up][up] up there. I had misunderstood, sorry. I'll go and do that now.

Egh, I can see someone complaining about this kind of behaviour and messaging the mods about it. I'm not going to say whether I think this is right or wrong, but I think the end result is going to be total deletion of all unfinished work pages.

I'm certainly not trying to get rid of unpublished works. I'm just trying to get them to play by the rules (which admittedly at the moment are a bit unclear, but hopefully we'll work it out one way or the other).

I'm curious about Fan Works. Many of those are ongoing projects that get updated over time, though I'm not against moving them if they need to be.

Do you mean Fanworks like fanfiction, comics and such? If those are published, even if incomplete, then they don't count as "Unpublished".

Also, finished moving Darth Wiki namespaced works from Troper Works to Unpublished Works.

There were many items in the list that were out of alphabetical order, but I didn't dare move them around while I was cutting and pasting for fear of accidentally erasing one. I figured that it was easier to erase a duplicated entry than to retrieve an erased one. They can be sorted alphabetically later on, once the moves are complete.

[up][up][up] I think it's more about about having things well organized. Unless Tropers think that having something in the Darth Wiki is a mark of shame of some sort?

But, published or unpublished? That's what we're looking at here.

If they're published, they'll go to their respective namespace (Fan Fic, Fan Art, etc.) and index(es).

If they're unpublished, they'll go to the Darth Wiki namespace and the Unpublished Works index.

[down]Why would or could it give them a bad vibe?

Honestly, I think Unpublished Works shouldn't be on Darth Wiki. There's not anything particularly negative about them besides the fact that they haven't been made and it unconciously can give them a "bad" vibe even if there ain't anything bad about them.

Some people say I'm lazy. It's hard to disagree.

The problem comes when the person who wrote the work makes a trope page for the work. It just seems like they're shilling their writing despite having nothing to sell.

Also, since the works don't exist in a readable form - and may not exist at all - it would be improper to link them throughout the site. Keeping them on Darth Wiki limits the problem.

Heh, I go away for the night and mazz gets busy.

I'm going to make a note on the discussion page that we're hammering out this in this thread (in case people want to come argue with us about the move).

Again, I can be convinced this may not be the best idea, but there's work to be done either way.

Going to help here. It's the Unpublished Works folder we're moving, right?

What should I do next? Actual namespace migration of the items in the Unpublished folder, checking first if they're really unpublished? And checking for corresponding wicks to move too?

Unpublished Works shouldn't have wicks. If you find wicks to them, delete them.

Really? I didn't know that. Should this line: "Pretty much the only evidence of their existence is one editor's entry pimping on our website" be erased, then?

It appears to encourage linking to them.

We'll worry about the wording on the specific pages after we clean up the other stuff.

I just finished clearing out the redlinks.

Here's another one: DeadOverTwo

...been in the works for about four years, and hopefully is up to the task of publication soon

Such a big page for something that isn't even out yet. It even has its own character subpage.

There are snakes in the grass, so we'd better go hunting!
