@Nine: To summarise what Mazz was saying: Deleting the index of Rape Tropes does not actually help with dealing with the kind of people who fetishise rape in the first place, and that we could do better in simply cleaning up those articles and dealing with problem examples (and the users that create them) directly.

At least, that's what I got out of it.

Huh. I did not see this coming. Is the eventual plan to cut all mentions of rape, even outside of tropes? I'm honestly sort of confused about how this will be resolved. I understand that all rape tropes have been "put under a curtain" or something like that, but maybe there could be just one supertrope explaining what rape is, why it's popular to use in fiction, and then leave it at that? And are all cases of abuse going to be cut, as with Mind Rape?

Yes it goes there with the jellyfish, though never gets explicit. It's kind of a weird series, in case it wasn't obvious.

Update: More fanservice from Sera. Also briefly some from Maelstrom. (Apparent age ~16-17) Not getting any less weird, but still nothing cutworthy.

And no the fast one has not laid out any plans yet, at this point we just need to take it easy and not worry abut it too much.

It seems Rape as Drama's still a trope even though one of the others (can't remember which) no longer is, but it still has the "DO NOT WANT" page linked to as if it were redlinked.

I Freaked Out A Little About The Previous Wave Of 'Cut First, Ask Questions Later,' Particularly As It Concerned 'A Certain Visual Novel,' But Seeing All That Has Happened Since Then, I'm Pretty Sure That This Is A Temporary, Emergency Measure, And That Reasonable Measures Will Be Taken In The End. Heck, The Pages Weren't Even Cut This Time!

I'm Sure We Won't Be Doing Anything Close To Eliminating Mentions Of Rape, Unless It's Somehow Necessary To Save The Wiki. Let's Figure Out What We Need To Do To Appease 'The Almighty Google' Without Sacrificing The Integrity Of The Wiki.

Done with ep. 5 of Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka. More fanservice from the older-looking girls, not really anything worth noting from the younger looking ones.

Verdict: Keep, Clean if necessary

Pro:

• Shonen demographic
• Most of the fanservice is from the older-looking girls
• Both manga and anime are licensed for US distribution
• Younger-looking girls are still around approximate age range of target audience

Con:

• Still some fanservice present from Eu and Haruna
• Both of them are in the borderline case range (~13-15 in terms of apparent age)

Quite frankly, I don't think there is nearly enough problematic material to call this pedo-pandering despite what Pages Pending For Perusal By P 5 says. ("Haruna and Eu are definitely pedobait") The vast majority of the fanservice in the eps. I viewed was from Seraphim, or failing that, Maelstrom. Also not the first case of overzealousness in tagging on that page. (see also: Bakemonogatari, Haganai, Dragon Crisis)

Okay, can I ask a question here?

We are removing all rape tropes, right? So let's have a look at Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The episode Consequences. Here Faith tries to rape Xander to death. This is a disturbing scene, it's instrumental to her Face–Heel Turn, it is something that is very much worth mentioning. Since rape tropes are out how would we bring this up?

By not doing anything right now, and waiting until we get further word on policy going forward.

Let's all hold our proverbial horses here.

I prefer the cut first, ask later approach. If anything, the whole P5 stuff shows that going one by one through what to cut takes forever. Better to blast it first and then reinstate stuff that still works.

I agree. I highly doubt that this will be the permanent state of things. If we relax and see what happens, I'm sure a far better scenario will be reached.

I also support this view. Frankly, I've been in favor of 'burn it to the ground and start over from scratch' as a solution to wiki issues for years.

That being said, will someone please clarify what exactly is being cut? I'm unclear, and so, it seems, are a number of others.

The index of tropes pertaining to Rape subject matter. Not exactly the best material to have on a site that has a young userbase.

Nothing is being cut yet. Right now, we're dealing with a lockdown of all Rape Tropes until Googlethulhu sinks back into the depths. We do not know what happens after that.

Which is the point; we're currently running on red-light emergency lockdown here, and nothing that happens right now is (currently) intended to become policy.

"Googlethulu", as you put it, is where a lot of revenue for the site comes from. Accuse trolls of manipulating them, but at the end of the day, if this site wants the ad revenue, google has to be satisfied that the site's content is up to it's standards.
