[up]I imagine you won't see it if you have the "gingerbread" turned off. Considering how that has been an all-or-nothing thing in the past... well, we will have to wait for Eddie on that one.

@Noa: Success! But, really, "The Scarlet Badge of Letter" for the "admin" badge? [lol]

PS to Eddie: The fact that it stayed is a good thing. I like the idea of personalizing the badges you send to others.

The default message for a gift has been fixed. A link to the receiver's collection has also been added to whatever text is in the giver's PM.

Checking for a receiver's existence is a good idea. That will go in tonight.

Are the two spaces going to stay in the box...?

@Noa: Success! But, really, "The Scarlet Badge of Letter" for the "admin" badge?
I apologise neither for being descriptive nor literate. :P :D

Oh - also, I've just received confirmation that badge-sharing works for people outside of testing, too. I hope that's all right.

Two spaces removed. Yes, you should be able to give a badge to any troper.

eta: A check is now performed to make sure the troper receiving the gift actually exists.

I was more concerned that spreading free badges outside the 'debug team' might be frowned upon, but I wanted to make sure that it worked.

All test badges will disappear when we are done testing.

Not to be overly self-serving here, but if we were able to keep one or two badges post-beta test, it might serve to drum up more discussion. A bit of advertising for the badge shop. Just something to consider.

Instead of that, I would think giving everyone—even new members from now on—one free badge (AKA: giving them the balance for one badge) might be a good idea. That gets them used to/looking at the badge store while not really cost anything.

This also seems reasonable, although one wonders how many people would choose to only ever get one badge?

^^The first hit is free? Worth thinking about. I'm told it works for drug dealers.:)

That was quite the lulzy post, Fast One. It's at least something to consider, as I stated before.

But... but the badges, man. I need em. Y'know, I just... I just need 'em.

First Badge is free does actually sound like a good idea. If everyone has one, they're going to be flashed around a lot more and that's going to drum up interest.

@ Eddie: "The first hit is free? Worth thinking about. I'm told it works for drug dealers. evil grin"

Fixed tongue

@ the rest:    What have I started?    [awesome]

Hmm... I know we have been talking about mod-only-given badges, but another idea is to "pay" people for "donating" their time in badge points. This would have to be on a case-by-case basis, but it could provide incentive for significantly helping out in the special efforts, TRS, etc.

Of course, I would not mind getting some extra badges for helping out in this (and other) thread(s). wink *

No, we don't want there to be any other method of getting mikes than by buying them or having them transferred to another troper. It would open us up to gold mining scenarios. A mike must always be backed up by a dollar.

Yhere will be badges that are awarded for service, but they will have no mike value, just kudos.

I see that The Fast One has coded in the ability to wear badges. Probably explaining why all the forum threads went down for a moment there.

You should be able to wear your badges visibly now.

Looks like the last step, moving real world dollars into a troper's account, is the last thing that needs doing.

So, uh...as I'm sure you've noticed, the new badge button has borked the forums a bit.
