@ Enlong: Sure, we can go along with the in-universe "suspense" caused by a surprise Fusion, but considering a) Goku has Ultra Instinct and b) Kefla's name is not Jiren, I feel like everyone should be expecting Goku was going to get the Plot Armor in this fight.

@ Demetrios: Hey. I've been here since partway through MHA, but figured I'd wait until Super neared its end to start posting.

@ Great: It's been explained a few times before, but Super (in one of its many retcons) made it so that the Fusion Dance and Potarra Earrings operate virtually the same if the fusees are mortal. If they're gods (like Zamasu or the Kais), then the fusion is actually permanent.

I just can't help but feel he's in even more over his head than anyone else would be.

Also thanks to his poor judgment call a city is being destroyed.

To be fair, the city was already pretty wrecked to begin with.

Actually, it's only permanent specifically if at least one member is a Kai, not just a god.

That was the only inevitable outcome there.

Plus its not like the retcon that its permanent only for The Divines truly altered the actual canon. After all, Goku and Vegeta defused in Dragonball Z after becoming Vegito.

I, too, am interested in hearing more. I think I might know what you're going to say, but I'm not entirely sure.

I mean, did they not think he would take a bit more precaution after something was finally able to take him down for a bit?

It kinda retroactively neuters the whole drama about choosing the right partner ya wanna stay fused with forever though.

The thing with Potara limitations comes up in the Goku Black arc in the manga.

In the anime, the fused Zamasu starts mutating and losing his immortality due to having Goku’s mortal body fused into him.

In the manga, it instead is revealed that the Potara fusion won’t be permanent for Zamasu because he murdered Gowasu and stole the Potara before he was ever actually promoted to Supreme Kai. So if they keep up the fight, his fusion will expire and they’ll be able to take him down.

@Slim I won't disagree there, though I prefer the change. That limitation rendered the potara something that would never be used again because the tradeoff is so high. I rather have it as a potential tool for storytelling than something that would either not be used again or have to always come up with some reason to get around it.

The problem though is we now have two Fusion techniques that are functionally identical to each other.

Then there's the issue that the Fusion Dance is actually more convenient once you learn it since you don't need a tool.

Thing with the dance is that you need time and precision to use it, which the enemy may not give you. Like Buu didn’t.
