I wonder, from a developer's point of view, what's the benefit of having a beta where a portion of the content is exclusive to a certain number of people. Doesn't that limit the amount of feedback you get on that content?

I mean, obviously this is an executive choice, not a developmental one, but still, I wonder what benefit could be brought from having a beta with exclusive content.

I'm not even mad at this. Why? Because someone will go "hold my beer" and find a new way to sink lower.

Lovecraftian: For application software, restricting feedback is a good idea. It keeps feedback manageable, rather than opening up a torrent. The idea of an open beta only really goes back to the 1990s after Linus Torvalds proved the success of the bazaar model, and with proprietary software, publishers still don't want competitors to copy their ideas. Hence, restricting the beta.

Betas are not even betas anymore, they are just demos. 99% of the time with these AAA Betas they do not make any changes what so ever to fix issues or bugs.

I'm glad I never got suckered into pre-order culture.

...Okay, I confess: I did get the season pass for Deadfire's expansions. In my defense, I enjoyed the first game and its expansions immensely, so I was pretty confident that Deadfire and its DLC would not disappoint. And it didn't.

I actually regularly pre-order my games so as to make sure I always have a copy when it comes out.

I learned long ago if I’m unlucky they might be sold out so pre-orders help prevent that.

........ Shit I gotta pre-order Kingdom Hearts III.

I was never really the kind of person who really needed to get a game the first week it came out. Possibly because when I grew up we didn't have something like Steam that made it easier to do so. I'd actually have to convince my parents to drive me to the store to buy a game. I learned to be patient when it came to videogame purchases.

I lack that patience IMO. [lol]

Or at least lost it when I became older & got money.

I don’t actually work but I got birthday money & weekly 20 bucks from my grandma so I just use that money to buy games.

Though I don’t actually buy many games. Just a handful per year or at least some cheap ones every couple of weeks cause I can get my parents to fork in money as long as it’s at a reasonable price like 20 bucks.

Plus I got Game Fly too. tongue

The only games I recall preordering were Kid Icarus: Uprising (I was incredibly hyped for that game. I wanted a new KI game since Brawl let me fall in love with that weird, esoteric bit of Nintendo History - and it did not let me down. Hades is still one of my favorite Video Game Villains and just the style and energy of that game is ecstatic), The Majora's Mask N3DS and Sun and Moon (because I wanted the pins).

I got BW as preordered Gifts but... don't really count em. KIU was my first preorder on my own.

But outside of those smatterings of Nintendo products, haven't had the need to preorder. I don't get Day 1 Hype for many games outside of mainline Pokemon titles (Well, outside of the Let's Go! titles)

Nah, this is just facepalm-worthy. It's hardly fire and brimstone. Granted, brimstone might be healthier to consume.

The only games I pre-ordered were Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle on PS 3 and Skullgirls and Sonic Mania on steam. And Jojo was the only physical preorder I made (Go Europe) and Sonic Mania was a birthday gift from a beloved friend.

In so far as Early Access goes the only two I really cared about were Fire Pro Wrestling World and Slap City...jesus im a fucking sad act arent i

M84: As a matter of fact, brimstone is an essential component of methionine and cysteine. Methionine is the first amino acid in every protein, and cysteines form sulphur bridges from their brimstone atoms which give proteins their specific structure, so yes, some amount of brimstone is a necessary dietary component.

We don't have Game Fuel in my country and only got vanilla Mountain Dew a few years ago, so when I first saw the title, I thought it was about pre-ordering microtransactions. Uh, nobody tell EA about that.

I've preordered a game about two or three times, and I may end up preordering Kingdom Hearts 3. Another reason why people may preorder aside from a game potentially selling out would be if the buyer wants the game as soon as possible and they are unable to go out to get them whether it be accessibility issues or a matter of being busy.

Don't catch you slippin' now.

I usually only preorder games that I know that I'll enjoy, such as Super Smash Bros and other releases that I'd want to play as soon as possible. I don't have the best history with door-to-door deliveries though, as they always end up getting delivered late.

Oh yeah, if we're adding early acceses to the mix, I paid for crosscode and dead cells in early access. And both turned out great.
