Looks more like telekinetic binding: Mind Rape

Actually, what it really reminds me of is Gotenks's Galactica Donuts attack from DBZ. Point is, this doesn't look at all like mind rape.

Pic references the trope but doesn't demonstrate it.

A forewarning here people: the image for this is likely to be text-heavy. Let's use that less often to dismiss suggestions.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.

The pictured example seems to be the trope namer, so if we are to remove that, the use of the name "mind rape" will seem even more needlessly specific than it already is. The point of this trope is that it involves brainwashing and/or psychological torture. The laconic says it is named such because it is traumatic similar to rape, but there are so many things that are traumatic that to single out rape for this is ridiculous. I already disliked the name, but without that page image there will be a lot more potential for thinking from the name that this is about unwanted sexual advances committed through mind powers or whatever.

So yeah, I think any change of page image should be accompanied by a rename, preferably a rename to a word or phrase encompassing both brainwashing and psychological torture.

No, it's from Doomsday, My Dear. He DOES look like Milo when just outlined, but that's because they're both scrawny guys with wild hair and glasses.

[up] Yeah, silhouettes can be confusing like that.

Anyway, it is an okay image, but I still think we should keep looking.

Here's a hastily thrown together collage of the Trope Namer. It's not easy to tell what's going on here, but after this there's a bunch of random freakish images that don't help at all. The picture quality is terrible too... I don't have the DVDs.

For the record, by the far most common misuse of this trope involves situations that aren't nearly traumatic enough to qualify. There's very little misuse I've seen regarding "literal mind rape". So I don't think this really ought to have any impact on what's done with the image.

If we could get a better quality version of the Eva collage I think it would work. Maybe cut out a panel or two.

For the record, by the far most common misuse of this trope involves situations that aren't nearly traumatic enough to qualify.
Then what is the threshold for how traumatic it has to be? I thought it encompassed even brainwashing that wasn't particularly traumatic.

There's very little misuse I've seen regarding "literal mind rape".
Again, that may have something to do with the current image explaining what the metaphorical point of the phrase is. If it gets removed, users might be a bit more hesitant to add examples that don't involve a sexual component or in-universe comparisons to rape.

... come to think of it, perhaps we could make a subtrope for that, and split off a new supertrope for Mind Torture in general. Or alternatively just pick Mind Torture as the new name for this.

For now, here is a smaller version of hotrods4ben's suggestion:

I may have misunderstood the trope all along, but I suppose the rape analogy was not due to severity, but violation. In rape, the criminal violates the victim physically without consent and does what s/he pleases. In mind rape, the criminal violates the victim mentally without consent and does what s/he pleases. The latter often evokes imageries of the victim resisting "entrance" and pleading for the criminal to stop.

Of course, it's understandable that some people might find this in bad taste, demeaning to actual rape victims, and so on. I think it's fair, but I might not recognise the nuances.

I can see the problem though; not all mind torture plays this kind of analogy. Depending on how prevalent the mind rape thing is, we might want to build a supertrope or rename it altogether.

I tried tweaking it in photoshop, with no luck. The vertical version is too tall anyways. With better quality pics we could probably do 3 panels. Those are the clearest (as in, able to understand what's even going on) screens I could get.

The smaller image isn't clear enough on context; the text captions are the only thing making it clear it's a mind attack.

Here's another possible image:

Regarding the rename; Mind Torture implies the purpose is torture when it might not necessarily be the case, and in some of the examples such as in Sailor Moon, the "disturbing" part is a side-effect rather than the directly intended effect. 1 for keeping the name the same.
