the only options were on there. maintain/change status, then independence/greater autonomy/statehood. what else could there be?

A little late(almost exactly a month actually), but it looks like theres going to be another round of voting just to be sure, along with an educational campaign to explain the choices to everyone.

I'm baaaaaaackHuh, we may be seeing the beginnings of a real push towards actual statehood.
Apparently Puerto Rico is a nice place for vacation, as my battery's commander talked about it to me for like two hours about a month back or so.

Carribean Island, plus actual US territory so you dont need a passport. I've heard it's really nice, just, as always, avoid the bad neighborhoods.
I'm baaaaaaackjust curious, but is there any more real news about the vote?
The governor of PR seems a bit upset that theres going to be a vote and he's not just going to get what he wants. and he offers some travel advice. he's anti-statehood, and pretty much wants all the benefits of being part of the U.S. as well as the ability to ignore whatever federal laws he doesn't like. Nothing new on the vote itself.
Also some Fox news article about Obama "ignoring the will of the Puerto riccan people by not attending a meeting by (some highly specific congressional group) on the implications of PR becoming a state, but that's hardly news. If he sneezes wrong it's a liberal attack on someone's freedoms according to them.

I'm baaaaaaackSo, I guess it would be old news by now, but legislation asking for statehood was introduced to congress. Probably won't go anywhere but it's a start in one direction.
Yeah, that really was nothing more than interfering with the political process because they thought they weren't going to get the answer they wanted.

funny timing, I was just thinking about this thread.
Good for them, I'd like to see it happen quickly. Do another vote so the morons talking about "blank ballots as protest" can bite me.
I'm baaaaaaackFigured I'd necro this to bring it back to the front page after 6 years, but Puerto Rico's been hammered by multiple strong earthquakes over the past few days and Trump has somehow been convinced to sign a disaster declaration for the island.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."
@Joe: They protested the vote because the option they wanted wasn't included as an option, so they choose to vote for no option.
