And people have been stating points against it. Like... one problem I have with these discussions is that it seems to boil down to "this is why we're doing it and all the points against it are wrong", rather than any actual discussion. And I've noticed this even though I agreed with all the previous changes.

[up][up][up] (@Fox) I admit that on some level that sounds nice, but I'm still stuck because one of my characters (and because, as Random said, he can't start his plot unless the Room remains in the same place... Which would be equally applicable to other potential plots)...

...OK, literally almost everyone in the Discord has probably heard about him at least once, and I mentioned him to you already...

In the event that Aichi Sendou Ultimo can actually show up, I want him to be able to have some shenanigans in between plots where he's trying to swipe Blaster Blade from Aichi. Ultimo would not be staying in the Room, and would not be welcome in the Room due to his affiliation with Ovi (Even if he is a genuinely nice guy).

He would be with Ovi at wherever Random has her, and that would make doing anything involving him difficult because he'd have to rely on Ovi's ability to even get to the Room if it ends up on another planet.

This is all hypothetical at the moment, of course, but this is something I've been really looking forward to if I can use him, and it'd be important to his character.

[up] (@Space) I thought it was what Fox was talking about... Speaking of having the town moving is sort of against the idea of having it stay in the same place.

Oh, another thing - if the Room is going to be roaming around, maybe we don't actually need to destroy the city? Just in case we ever feel like going back to it, who knows. Either way it's out of sight and out of mind when it comes to the status quo.

@Crystal: It shouldn't be too hard to handwave something to keep Ultimo involved, methinks. Maybe something like [a dimensional anomaly where they are acknowledged as the same being], which lets Ultimo sort of get drawn towards Aichi's broad location? (I'm spitballing here.)

@Space: Ohp, yeah. I sort of voiced my opinions on a post that got bottompaged.

like, here is my view: i don't really care about it moving around or staying in one space. what i want, is for the in-between plot segments to be actually differentiated from how things are in the fg, so that we don't have to have similar City Shenanigans in both places

because if they are the same type of setting and same location, then people are just going to end up fging, rather than actually ending up getting their characters in the rp introduced and building character connections. this is the benefit of in-between plot sections because when plots actually happen, characters already have bonds rather than being strangers working together

this can be solved easily by removing the city, if the idea of the room in space is an issue, i don't really mind one way or another

@Fox OK, not gonna lie, that's a cool idea for Ultimo when it comes to getting him involved in plots. Sort of like a "bound by fate" type of thing? Two sides of the same coin, all that jazz. I'm good with that idea!

But, it still doesn't help with being able to access the Room proper if it moves around though... and chances are that he'd be stuck in the Room until Ovi can go get him...

...Assuming people don't just throw him outside and leave him on some desert planet to die.

I mean not all of the characters are jerks like that, but a bunch of people REALLY don't like Eggman and Ovi for obvious reasons. That would apply to Ultimo because he willingly works for them, even if he doesn't agree with what they're doing.

Although, on the other hand, getting stuck in the Room would be good for getting him to interact with people. Who knows, maybe he'd be able to make some friends even if he's on the wrong side (once again assuming he's not thrown overboard for trying to help Ovi).

Ack, I don't even know...

There's been characters in past RP groups who've been liked less in-universe but managed to remain within said group (or at least surviving well enough around them). Gilgamesh comes to mind.

[up] Ah, I suppose that's a fair point. Not to mention that literally the only things he'd be doing while in the Room (When Ovi's not giving him orders) are either things you'd honestly just see Aichi doing, or trying to steal Blaster Blade via non-lethal means.

OK, so Random can't post in the thread right now, but I told him the bare bones stuff of what we're discussing now (About the Room moving to different places, but not being in space).

He said the following:

  • "I dunno, can maybe make it work"
  • "I mean, I’d prefer it stay in one location between arcs", "That feels more convenient for everyone"

again, i'm fine with it either way (moving or not moving), that doesn't really matter to me, i'd just prefer to have the city out of the way for the reasons i said

Those are fair opinions to have, methinks. But r/n I'm on the fence about returning to the RP proper, and the proposition of a more dynamic Room is a bit of an incentive for me to return. Though, really, that's just me.

Yeah, there's gotta be a rule that the Room's new locale has chicks. Or at least chickens.

i am against just tossing the room out into space or whatever.

however, getting rid or disregarding the city in the rp seems fine to me- keeping it to a "whoa, weird house in the woods" level would click with me, more or less. there are things i'd be limited to if we only had a house (i.e, lapis couldn't have tried using the lake to get home [right before grayrock started]) and having nothing around the house still feels limiting to me.

ok so when I think Dynamic, I think "evolving", changing

a one time setting change doesn't evoke that to me much

given that the rp is basically a gaggle of freaks poking at all the nerd shit we like, why not just have our hub world basically be the setting of the last plot finished

like say we finish a pokemon plot, instead of returning to Roomville Kentucky we stick around in saffron city or what have you, give the setting we got to know a last hurrah and some last memories

the GM doesn't have to regulate this if the group became familiar with it, and if it proves impossible (plot gets canned or the setting is simply too hostile to support such a thing), we always have Room (Classic) as a fallback

watch as someone already placed this idea as I typed If u can say more examples then I thank u

Oh, I like that idea! It builds onto what I proposed, sorta - keeps things dynamic without them coming outta nowhere, while already having something established beforehand.
