Ryan glared at Virgil. "Hey, ease up a bit. We're here to relax, right? Look, if you're worried about that briefcase, I'd stash it in your room. Odds are security's tight enough that you shouldn't have any problems."

Considering Virgil, Asayu said, "maybe he doesn't like the idea of letting it out of his sight. I can sympathize."

Lilith had wandered off to investigate Virgil more closely. She'd be worth investigating later. "So, Ryan," Asayu said, "must be a real relief getting away from... well, everything. But things can't be utterly unspeakable where you come from." Otherwise, Asayu though as she considered him, he'd be a raving maniac. "I'm guessing you've got something you do for rest and relaxation, to help get your head clear, when you aren't getting pulled into interdimensional paradises." She was curious as to what it was, but she had a few guesses involving grungy bars and liquor.

Ryan smiled. "Depends on the mood. Occasionally I'll get myself plastered, but more often I'll end up watching a movie. It's getting harder to find pre-war stuff since they started tightening up internet access, but I know someone who specializes in that kind of thing. Some of the propaganda they're pushing in theaters these days is decent, but I have trouble stomaching it. Which is where getting plastered comes in," he said, laughing.

Virgil turned to face Ryan, and only clutched his case tighter.

"I don't think so. I'm not taking any chances with this thing. I'm not trusting someone like you with it."

Asayu smirked slightly and said, "well, my guess was half right, though making clever remarks about stupid movies is more Rachel's thing." She briefly looked at Ryan, suddenly turning serious, and said, "but, don't bother buying me any drinks. I prefer to avoid alcohol. Don't worry, it's not some sob story, and I'm not going to be offended or self-righteous if you have a beer or two. I just like to keep my head clear." Then, her previous demeanor returning, she said, "that said, I am a bit thirsty. Alcoholic or not, free drinks aren't something you should pass up." She headed to the outdoor bar, waving for Ryan and Yuki to follow. Upon arriving, she sat and ordered a cup of hot green tea.

When Claude realized that she was not going to get any useful information out of Jean and Rachel, that they were mostly going to argue about who was going to shoot what and other things she couldn't understand, she left for Asayu and Ryan back to the bar, finding them looking just a bit less threatening.

What a strange place. All of the people looked real, and none of the sand or water looked foreboding. At this point, a lotus eater machine might be a welcome change of place.

Yuki followed Asayu silently, glancing back at Amaya. She'll be fine, she thought. She turned her focus to the bar. Alcohol wasn't something she was familiar with, not being old enough yet to partake of it.

So instead she settled for cola, whatever brand the bartender had to offer, before regarding the other two. Ryan's tale of propaganda was unsettling, but no worse than the world she came from. Granted, there was no real polite way to voice that fact, so she mused on it silently while she sipped her soda. There was no need to seem like she was playing a one-upping game here.

Damn my lack of sleep

Sobek crossed his arms and laughed, "Actually, I'm pretty laid back for a Great Old One. I don't care for my duties really," It didn't cross his mind how they would react to that.

I dhit you not, Sobek is a Great Old One, I recommend looking it up on The Other Wiki to find out

Claude decided to sit at the bar next to Yuki. She also seemed unthreatening, closer to her age than nearly everyone else here.

"Excuse me —" but the bartender ended up asking her for her order before she could finish asking her question.

"Oh," said Claude. Not everyone here seemed to be drinking something alcoholic. She ordered a root beer float and then turned back to Yuki. "Excuse me, but I'm looking for someone who might be here."

Yuki blinked in surprise. Can't hurt to be nice to people. Vacation. Be nice, relax. Nobody's gonna hurt us here.

She took a quick drink of her soda and pushed her paranoia away. "Well, what do they look like? I might be able to help."

"He's my brother, so he looks a lot like me. He's older, though, and probably looks a little frazzled. I think I saw him come into this resort, but I haven't seen him yet..."

The root beer float tasted like the ones she would get at the diner, high quality root beer with low quality ice cream. She stirred the ice cream into a froth and sipped.

"Though," she said, "Considering this place, if he's here, he's probably fine."

Turning to Claude, Asayu said, "well... if your brother was here, what sort of place would he look for? Would he hide in a room and wait for people to go away? Raid the kitchen? I'm sure if you looked for a map and considered your brother, you'd find where he'd be." She considered her. Poor girl. She hoped she found her brother soon.

Jean put on a crafty smirk. "Oh-? Well, all right then Miss Hosseini, though before I do, I'd rather prefer if I had my sidearm back." The silver pistol was lying in the sand at Rachel's side. "Would you care to pass it back to me?"

Kat shrugged. "Elder God, Æsir, Flying Spaghetti Monster, they're all superpowerful beings. For all intents and purposes, a god. Point being, I didn't imagine that someone like that would use words like 'dude'. Or coming to stay at an interdimensional resort, for that matter."

He hefted the camera back up. "So, what do you think about your portrayal by humans? Good? Bad? Meh? Some ancient, eldritch word that I can't hear without my mind shattering into a bazillion pieces?" He frowned. "If the latter, please don't tell me. My mind's been shattered enough as it is, and putting it back together is weird."

The sea was pretty, but pretty can only go so far. Vincent headed over to the bar to mingle with everyone else. Several conversations were going on, but he didn't join in any of them. Not yet. Instead, Vincent sat on a stool, his arms spread over the bar top, facing the sea, as his tail swished back and forth.

Sobek nodded his head, "Dude, lemme tell ya, being worshipped it really stressful. When the egyptian civilization died out, I kind a mellowed out, not the Elder Gods though, they've had a stick up their asses since ever," He smirked, "To tell you my idea of humans, I'd have to turn into a crocodile monster, and I'm not doing anywhere near this dimension."

He stretched, "Why are you filming everything exactly?"

Yuki drained the last of her soda and stretched before turning to Claude. "We could ask the front desk if they have a map, then we can look for your brother where he might go." It seemed a sound enough plan to her, or at least the most practical.

Ryan followed Asayu to the bar. After what happened at the cantina, he wasn't about to have any more booze any time soon. "I'm actually trying to keep the drinking to a minimum right now," he said to Asayu. Turning to the bartender, he said, "Could I have a birch beer, please?"

Rachel picked up the pistol, but nervously. She very clearly considered it as much a danger to herself as anyone else, but the way she held it, clutching the grip tightly but awkwardly, suggested she had little experience with such weapons. But she did know enough to, with a bit of fumbling, remove its ammunition before handing it back to Jean. She kept the bullets, and said, "you wanted your gun back, you get your gun back. You can have the rest when I trust you."

[Beach Bar]

Asayu continued to sip her tea, considering. Despite her sympathies, she wasn't eager about hunting for a lost boy (or man?) unless there truly was nothing more interesting to do. Really, she considered sitting around and getting to know the people who'd wandered to the place more than enough to keep her busy, even if she didn't actually go any further with any of them. Her nod and slight smile when she heard Ryan's order suggested that she approved of it, and she continued to eye him as she sipped her tea.

Jean reached out, as if to take the weapon, saying, “Thank you.” All of a sudden, both his hands closed around her hand holding the weapon. They clamped tightly together, unyielding, trapping Rachel’s finger in the trigger guard and pulling it so that the muzzle rested against his forehead. “I keep this weapon loaded at all times. There’s still a round in the chamber.” He began to stand, pulled her upwards so that if she didn’t stand with him her index finger would pull the trigger. “Don’t drop your guard, I could still be Tamiel.”

"Several reasons," said Kat. "The main one is because we need some data about interuniversal people. There are some theories about why this happens, but we didn't think you'd appreciate it if you were held down and had some blood stolen. In this case, filming is the next best thing."

He held up the camera. "This thing can actually take a lot of punishment. More than ten thousand newtons of force, can work between a hundred kelvins and fifty thousand, waterproof, fireproof, can withstand EMP's... basically, it'll work through pretty much whatever you throw at it."

Rachel looked Jean in the eyes. "If you are Tamiel, you don't care whether or not I pull this trigger. It'll just be a minor annoyance, and you'll have the satisfaction of seeing me finally look somebody in the eyes and blow their head away. And if you aren't... you're still a fanatic." She looked him square in the eyes. "Sure, you're willing to die for your cause. You believe in it. The same could be said of the men who tortured my mother and father. I'm not sure I want anything to do with you either way."

"If you would like a map of the resort, I have some here." Brian said from behind the Beach Bar to Claude and Yuki, handing them each a laminated copy of the resort map.

[Landing Area]

Outside, a smallish shuttle landed on the pavement.

Inside, three sentients were wondering just where they were.

The first was a terran, Lt. Cmdr. Harrison, tall and looked to be in his 40s, wearing a navy blue uniform, emblazoned with a logo of a ship against a starfield and the letters UAN, with a few button badges on his left chest, and a tight-fitting hat. Looking out the front window viewscreen, he said, "I don't know, this doesn't look like Alpha-Erandi V..."

The second was a very tall, dark brown reptilian alien vaguely resembling an upright komodo dragon sans tail - Vice Imperator P'jwakh, a Hxaon, easily over 2 meters, who had four arms, two legs, and was wearing some kind of mechanical uniform, vaguely resembling armor, inscribed with a variety of indecipherable characters, and carrying what looked like a selection of guns on her back. Examining the controls, she said, "In that fog the sensors went haywire, I'm not sure where this is..."

The third was a moderately short alien, with approximately the proportions of a 4-foot tall chicken - Ivin, a Vencaran, who appeared to be wearing an exoskeleton-tight suit, all in off-white, and a gray fedora. "Actually, I think this place is a interdimensional resort where beings from different realities can interact, and we must have jumped here instead." Ivin said.

P'jwakh and Harrison turned and gave Ivin a suspicious stare for a moment.

"Oh. I suppose that seems reasonable." Harrison said.

"Even though we were supposed to land on Erandi, this place does look ... nicer?" P'jwakh said.

"Yeah, fewer smoke geysers and shielded mining complexes than I was expecting." Harrison said, "Alright, let's check out this resort. Someone's going to have to stay with the ship until we verify it's safe, however."

"I wouldn't trust this ninny to look after the ship." P'jwakh said about Ivin.

"Jeez! For all I know, you wanted to go to those cruddy mining complexes, so I don't trust her to watch the ship either!" Ivin said.

"Alright then. I'll watch the ship, you two go check out the resort." Harrison said, clearly exhausted from their bickering, "Hopefully it'll help you two get along."

P'jwakh and Ivin glared at each other for a moment before agreeing, and walked out of the ship and towards the resort entrance.

Oh brother. Harrison thought from inside the ship, closing the door, Diplomats of the galaxy, the Terrans, watching the ship. I just hope those two manage to get along. We're supposed to be allies, after all...

[Bar / Lobby]

P'jwakh and Ivin walked through the main door, and were greeted by Miki.

"Hm. Seems reasonable." P'jwakh said, looking around inside.

Ivin bowed back at and thanked Miki and received their room keys, turning to P'jwakh and said, "Sweet - Room 42! I requested it specifically."

"Just ... try not to embarrass us, OK?" P'jwakh said to Ivin, as they walked around.

Harrison is still inside the ship, but P'jwakh and Ivin are available for interaction. Also, sorry for the wall of text. :)

Jean’s face was no longer a stoic mask of collected professionalism. He wore a sideways, shark-like grin. He spoke quickly, almost as if he was speaking as fast as his mind could come up with the ideas, or that a very important thought had occurred to him he wanted to speak before he could forget it. “This isn’t about me Rachel. You’re in somewhat of a unique position. If I am Tamiel, and you pull that trigger, you will have done something good. Set back an agent of the God-Eater. If I’m not and you pull that trigger, you will have killed a man.”

His sharp eyes bore unblinkingly into her own.

“I won’t hold it against you if you kill me. My life is not important, I can be easily replaced if anything were to happen to me. These contingencies would need to be in place in the event of my death, as I’m under threat quite often. I’m only a figurehead, really. All the really important decisions are made by my superiors. In that sense, now that I think about it, I suppose me and Tamiel really aren’t that different after all.”

Kat laughed. "Believe me, when you've seen as many things as I have, nothing is interesting. Not even you. Well, okay, your personality is a little interesting, but not your powers or anything. I've seen plenty of guys like you.

"But even accounting for that, not much, yet. For a nexus that links every single possible reality throughout all of the universes, it's surprisingly normal."

Vincent noticed the spaceship landing and the two aliens coming from inside. Space stuff. Sweet. He headed over to the lobby to greet them.

Up close, they looked a bit like a komodo dragon and a big chicken, oddly enough. But what did he know about aliens?

Vincent tapped the reptile on the shoulder and threw up the Vulcan salute. "Hello."
