i'm not intentionally misreading you so maybe i'm just an idiot, but why is sexual titillation worse than vicarious aggression?
you mentioned that there are tons of people who are aggressive. there are also tons of people who are horny. what's the ethical difference in how these get channelled?
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterTrying to get this back to American Football, I feel this may be one of expectation and psychological preparation - and the fact that the halftime show violated that to an extent.
Or to put it another way - most people know what to expect from a NFL game. So the violence isn't shocking and thus people are more comfortable with it.
However, there was no consensus on what the halftime show would be - and if it differed considerably from your expectations that's going to be upsetting.
Man
Does this mean Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake are vindicated
Children can be aggressive; enjoy aggression and competition; and directly benefit from a framework for the same with fairly explicit detail. None of this can be said when you substitute in sexual arousal.
"What is the ethical difference for an all ages sports show" is "a six year old might enjoy sport but there is no way they're getting anything relevant from poledancing"
Avatar Sourcedo you know how much body control, coordination, and choreography it took for jlo to climb a pole that isn't fastened to anything? you're being awfully dismissive of an incredible feat simply because it might make people feel feelings in the nethers. for the record: this didn't arouse me or anyone else at my party but instead made our collective jaws drop, so imo it's a completely arbitrary distinction you're making
think we'll have to agree to disagree since the longer this thread goes on and the more hot takes i see that are in the same vein, the more i think the reason behind all the conniption fits is that thing that starts with a p and ends in -atriarchy and those conversations never go over well
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterYes, blame your poor reading comprehension and inability to actually grasp the other argument being made on "the patriarchy!", because that doesn't reflect badly on you at all. I said that I don't care about showing children something like that; it doesn't mean that it's a difficult feat to grasp why someone would, nor is it based on the some asinine inability to recognise physical achievement.
Something can be physically impressive and still sexually provocative and deliberately engendered to be arousing (again, in the sexual sense, because last time I used a word with any possible way to interpret otherwise you argued against that strawman). You can have a perfectly equal view on the appropriateness of exposing children to sex and violence and conclude that one is going too far because that is the point (much akin to showing them some film glorifying violence without containing much). Or, following on from my above point; children are often aggressive and play rough, there's nothing you're going to teach them via sports that isn't already something they do. Dancing in a way to arouse people? Then we have something concerning happening.
TL;DR: being physically impressive doesn't automatically make something acceptable and isn't the single relevant feature here. Using that argument means concluding that both hardcore porn and shock sites are appropriate for prepubescent children if it's fancy enough.
Avatar SourceI think it's pretty clear that the intent of the poll dance sequence was to sexually titillate, and that showcasing J-Lo's athleticism was at best a secondary consideration.
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.” -Philip K. DickWait wait wait, is Dave Daubenmire commentating on here? Because it sounds like someone got upset about the halftime show in relation to "crotch grabbing" and "sexualization".
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.Man, the Bucs are getting new uniforms next month and I am so excited for it. The current set have to be the worst in the NFL.
Overheard on Philly sports radio this morning: "Eagles fans don't got nothing to worry about. All we need to do is wear Aghalore jerseys and we won't catch nothing."
Tom Brady is leaving the Patriots.
I'm less upset about this than I am about the understanding that BB will never tank a season.
Watching a full replay of Super Bowl 42 right now. Said I would if Brady retired or left the team. Haven’t watched the whole game the entire way through since that day.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Well, it appears that Brady is going to the Bucs. I'm a bit shocked, really. I figured that the Glazers would find a way to fuck this up.
And that's a wrap for the dynasty. My guess is the Patriots post a 3-14 next season and go for a rebuild. 2020 will be the first time that no member of the 2001 championship team is on the roster. It's consigned to history, now.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I tend to agree that a rebuild will happen.
I'm curious how Brady and the Bucs will go. He has certainly declined, but the Bucs seem like a really good fit in terms of offensive personnel, tight ends in particular.
I'm going to predict a 13-4 season. He's going to be playing Aaron Rodgers once, and both Matt Ryan and Drew Brees twice, on a new team without a great O-line, in a new system, with a coaching staff that's a step down from the school of Belichick. He's also 43, so they're on the clock if they want a championship — every bum game they play, the next one will have Brady in worse shape. He seems ageless, but there's always a point where it'll become too much, esp. if he's taking hits. Maybe he gets to the NFCCG and loses, I dunno. Football outcomes are volatile. If he's going to go to the Super Bowl, it's probably going to be this year or not at all.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."NFL expected to vote to extend videogame licensing deal with Electronic Arts.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Aaaaaaay, lmao, Cam Newton has reached a 1 year, $7.5 million deal with the Patriots, with incentives attached.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."The Washington Redskins will finally change their name after years of pressure.
As a guy from Virginia, all I want is for them to replace everyone on the team because they all suck.
It's been 3000 years…Watch them change it to the "DC Redskins"
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I'd suggest changing it to Red Rovers.
Disgusted, but not surprisedBro
The news coming out about the Redskins is just wt
They’ve already lawyered up, holy shit this is probably real

Probably just the tip of the iceburg.
Minority shareholders in the team are seemingly getting an investment bank to sell their shares.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Yeah it’s all crazy details
Supposedly the official report is gonna come from the Washington Post
What a year
Are you intentionally misreading me? It's not a good argument.
For one, I said aggression. Also playing. Quite how you warped that into generic physical energy...
And it is blatantly obvious that I was using titillate to mean sexually, like fully half the use the word ever receives. To pretend otherwise is facile.
