The shared background of at least the middle schoolers coming from an extracurricular history camp is cute.
Wait so Agumon can Digivolve into everything then?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."No, Digimon often have different evolutionary trees that they can Digivolve into. For instance, according to the Wiki Agumon can Digivolve into
Greymon
Centaurmon
Meramon
or BlackAgumon.

I meant in this game I’m particular.
Like are we stuck with Agumon for real because it sorta looks like it.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yes, unlike in Cyber Sleuth we're not going the Persona way of recruitment.
Well then I reserve the right to Digivolve him into Skullgreymon.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."So, odds on which higher stages are gonna be available for Agumon?
And maybe some of the others. I think a few new evolution options are a possibility.
Wake me up at your own risk.I'd imagine his default tree (since we've seen MetalGreymon in gameplay).

Perhaps they'll also include the tyranomon line? They might also want to insert guilmon's line or saver's line for agumon, for a minimum of anime pandering.
I'm assuming they won't have any recolors though.
Since what Digimon you get changes depending on your story choices I bet they affect the story themselves, too. A Greymon would have way different problem solutions than, say, a Numemon.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Gawd, I'd hope that a game with anime-based Digivolutions wouldn't potentially force something as crappy as a Numemon on you.

Ah, must be from the late game then. I need to get back into playing that game.
"We also looked at one of the key features of the Digimon Adventure anime, where Digimon grew stronger to reflect people's hearts, and wondered what would happen if we incorporated that element into a game," he continued. "We thought it would be fun to have the drama between the characters factor into how the Digimon evolve within the game." Habu went on to describe how Digimon Adventure played a huge role in Digimon Survive's development, citing the anime as inspiration for the game's storytelling, art style, and character designs.
In this regard, the Bandai Namco team turned to the original source when it came to building Digimon Survive's world—director Hiroyuki Kakudō. "One of the most interesting things I heard from [Kakudō] was that Digimon, as titled, were not born because humans created computers but instead became visible to human beings only because they created computers and digital technology," Habu said. "He told me that he wrote the world of Digimon with this in mind, that Digimon have been living alongside humans throughout history and that Digimon in the past may have been manifested through magic or sorcery or in Japan, via the ancient art of onmyo, subjugating them as shikigami, or as yokai, or even as demons… One of the concepts we have for this game is whether or not we can bring to life and expand on this challenging fictional world [Kakudō] has envisioned."

The Protomen enhanced my life.Ooooooooh...now that's very interesting...
Some interesting points and thoughts I took from the interview:
- Spilling that tea with Next Order's development being partially hampered by the Vita when trying to work with it on PS4
- There's a large emphasis on overseas fanbase and how the past few games relatively sold really well.
- In relation to that, they explicitly make a point about how the overseas fanbase's primary point of relation with Digimon is the anime and that Survive is meant to hook them as the playable version.
- Animation Age Ghetto seems to be an internal thing at Bamco and/or Toei because that's Habu's explanation for the franchise's slow movement to marketing for other demographics.
- Story is currently the core game series, World is too niche (did Next Order really do that badly) and Survive was the result of trying to capture its atmosphere in a different game. also they're making the next Digimon Story game, Survive just seems to be the priority right now.
- Good that they went for a more stylized artstyle that didn't rely on the hardware to hold it up, parts of Cyber Sleuth did not age very well.
- "Down-to-earth artstyle." GOOD. Yes more of this please
- ugh fine I guess the games had to do this approach with Digimon eventually. god I hope they actually try to meaningfully do something with this context as more recent works did and not just figuratively shrug as to how it comes together
- Making a game that emulates the anime seems startlingly simple in hindsight, like how this is the first time anyone came up with evolution in battle via energy that has to be carefully managed and bond values that increase it
- "We wanted a world of severe ruin, the sort of tragic place so broken that it might vanish at any minute." Very evocative, hint at the endgame?
