I wish I hadn’t been spoiled the Pearl Harbor joke in advance, but that buildup man. [lol]

…Pardon my French, but what did happen to the Dixie Chicks that he mentions several times?

They got cancelled hard because they dared to criticize the bush administration post 911 least thats what I THINK he's referring to,its the first thing that came to mind when someone mentions the dixie chicks

They basically got "cancelled" by the country music industry for daring to be critical of George W. Bush and some aspects of America post 9-11. In general, they're less.. conservative in political matters then country music and fans tend to tolerate.

I'm pretty sure Todd covered them in one of his videos. IIRC they had a huge hit song about the aftermath. I've no idea if the country crowd have forgiven them. They make the most conservative metalheads look like chamomile tea by comparison.

Todd mentions it in the American Life episode when he speculates that the reason Madonna canceled the original music video for the title track was because she was afraid of getting a similar backlash.

Which is rather inconsistent given that she didn't have an issue in pushing the limits before, and this time is likely out of wanting to keep the profits from tie-in media. Namely, the title track of James Bond's Die Another Day.

You know, in the 70s there were lots of TV theme songs that hit that might be OHW candidates: Happy Days, The Rockford Files, S.W.A.T., Making Our Dreams Come True (Laverne and Shirley theme), Makin It, etc.

Todd is reconsidering a Blur episode of One Hit Wonderland thanks to their set at Coachella being so poorly received.

Yeah, I'd imagine that previously Blur was firmly under the Hendrix Clause.

I actually discovered Blur BEFORE the big hit, as the video for Parklife was on Beavis and Butthead (albiet a negative take on it, but I still thought the song was catchy enough).

Oh it's catchy, but that and "Country House" I've seen referred to as like finding The Neatles through "Yellow Submarine" and I like the comparison.

So, what do you guys if Todd will ever review a song done by a Vtuber?

Given how everyone outside of that space views vtubers he probably wouldn't like it by default.

To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."

Yeah, he'd probably give the usual "anyone who likes V Tubers is a basement-dwelling neckbeard" spiel.

Todd's pretty caustic.

True, but he's also pretty open to the idea of lowering the bar to entry to popular success. He's been in support of Vine and later Tik Tok in theory because it allows relatively scrappy underdogs to get exposure that labels would never allow normallynote .

a Vtuber actually releasing something decent that gets picked up by the populace would be the kind of story Todd would be in support of, I'm just... not sure if it's something that would likely happen.

Did Todd review something from a Kpop group before? I vaguely remember him talking about Kpop at at least one point, but I don't remember the context. Maybe it wasn't a review, but an entry on a worst songs list?
