You know, this strip is a good example of what I pointed out earlier about Dumbing of Age - the comic is basically "what if we threw a bunch of comedy characters into a more grounded setting".
Turns out it makes their quirks - which would be considered amusing or endearing in a comedy setting - much less so.

I know there's actual context to it but this is the fourth strip in a row where someone frantically wants an update on Becky and it reminds me of that line about Poochy from the Simpsons.
