Not sure what this trope is about: Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today

Is it about gay characters pretending to be straight? Straight characters with so much Ho Yay that it seems like the former? Characters confused about their sexuality? All of the above?

Seems to be extension of Ho Yay in many of the examples listed (such as Seth from Superbad)

I believe it's supposed to be about a man(or woman I suppose) who feels that they've done something that makes them appear gay, and they're insecure about it.

Is that it? Because it is not clear in the description. It mentions it is the opposite trope to Have I Mentioned I Am Gay?, which makes no sense because that trope does not need an opposite frankly. Also the Today part of the title implies that it can change over time. Also there's a weird reference to "genre brimming with Ho Yay" which has very little to do with most of the examples I'm familiar with.

Basically the explanation should state "Character does something that could be interpreted as having homosexual undertones, so emphasises his or her heterosexuality through words and not action".

Description needs re-write and some examples need to be gotten rid of. I'll put it on my to-do list.

You're better off waiting for someone else before you do a full rewrite.

It's about characters who go to great length to point out that they're straight. I thought it was pretty obvious from the name.

[up][up]I'm not going to do a full re-write, just make the definition clearer.

[up]Yes, from reading the examples. I, for one, could not understand it from reading the definition

I just read this trope page the other day, and I have to admit that while I got what the trope meant from the title alone, I had to re-read the description a few times to make sure.

I think it's all there, but the important info about what the trope is comes in a little late.

I'd suggest putting the second paragraph on top, then go on to say what this isn't (Everyone Is Gay) and what type of media it appears in (works that engender Ho Yay).

Also, I'd be willing to bet this thing is getting potholed like crazy in bad (according to the rules) ways.

I always thought that this is, like 5 said, about characters going "to great length to point out that they're straight". Whether they're straight or not.

I'm tempted to replace that page quote by a few lines from the Avenue Q song "If You Were Gay". Any objections?

The song is a great example. Nicky tells his (closet gay) friend Rod that it's really okay to be gay, while repeatedly pointing out that he, Nicky, himself is absolutely not gay.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!

Oh yes this was on my to-do list. Doing a sandbox version now.

I like yours better, but I'd remove the part about "Every other cast member also comments on how it's platonic." This is very often an in-universe trope, and that part would confuse people.

[up]Cool. Wasn't sure about that line, kept it from the original but yes tend to agree it should go.

Anything else or should I change it?
