I mean, it'd be a very Kojima thing to do. MGS 3 had several events based on how long the player had between saving and playing again.

Actually, Kojima has almost literally done that. If you save and quit during The End, when you start up again, he'll get you. (Unless its been over two weeks)

or you can kill him early on so you skip his boss battle

Sorry if you're disappointed thinking this bump was major news or something, but this was just so hilariously incongruous with the game I couldn't resist sharing it!

Also, that rat's not even from the game! There aren't really "normal" animals in Silent Hill. Maybe he's one of the Omnipotent Shobe's friends?

"Red Pyramid Thing" is the name used consistently in official materials since the original Silent Hill 2; "Pyramid Head" is a nickname Masahiro Ito came up with during development but didn't use in the actual game.

A premiere trailer for Silent Hill Ascension was uploaded a couple days ago. The interactive series will premiere tomorrow at around 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT.

So the premier came and it's, uh, certainly horrifying. Just not in the way intended. Literally every aspect of the app, show, and "game" aspects seem like they were cooked up in a boardroom full of coked up Wall Street suits who haven't played a videogame since 1987, whose understanding of the horror genre is entirely theoretical, and who think Choose Your Own Adventure is both the pinnacle of interactive entertainment and the future of all media.

A screenshot, for those morbidly curious. I've also heard rumors that NFTs are involved, or were but got shitcanned when that bubble finally burst.

Ugh, Night Trap looks more fun than this.

Ascension looks like it could very well be somewhere on So Bad, It's Horrible unless some miracle brings it out of the heap.

They've also nuked the reviews for the companion app on various storefronts, and the head of the studio behind it is going the ol' EA route of directly engaging in sparring matches with the "haters" on social media. A direct quote:

"There are criticisms that are valid and are being addressed (past puzzles, more free IP^note the premium currency because this game apparently needed MTX and a battlepass). There are criticisms that are invalid (story, narrative design)."

Makes one almost appreciate Downpour.

Downpour was at least a solid if mid experience. Both as a game and as a SH product.

This just hurts.

Really hoping the rest of the upcoming Silent Hill slate don't end up sucking. If Townfall, f, and SH2's remake all end up being hot garbage, I think the series will be officially six feet under with no hope of ever rising from the grave again.

I think the best case scenario in that event would be that they finally sell off the IP to someone competent but I don't know how likely that is.

I haven't really been paying attention to any of the developments since these were announced, though, so a lot depends on how much the executive office can keep their hands out of the kitchen. Silent Hill f is the game that promises to be Silent Hill by way of Higurashi, right? That's the one I'm most hoping will be successful.

I'm hedging my bets on f, because of the setting, the cool imagery in the trailer and the fact ryukishi of umineko and higurashi fame is writing it.

I have no expectations for any of the other games on the slate.
