Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

The difference is Scar died and never returned once his time was done, while Marvel is milking Loki far past any reasonable point.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah I think Loki's Ensemble Dark Horse status REALLY hurt The Dark World.
So it's interesting, but mid-credits The Stinger for Winter Soldier now makes me wonder if there was more connections between AOU and the stinger of Avengers 1 than previously anticipated.
Now I want to find a fanfic where Thor watches The Lion King.
Hey, I already found one where Loki turns out to be a fan of Hamlet.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I don't see why not. We've already accepted a new Hulk actor. And a new James Rhodes. You just need to find the right actor to fill the part and play it right and I'm sure people will be willing to accept the idea of someone other than the current actors in the role.
Looks at James Bond, for instance. We've got how many actors that have played him and silly (as well-thought-out-as-they-may-be) theories about Bond being a code name rather than an actual person aside, people are willing to accept that sometimes, characters get new actors to play them.
The thing is, though, every time we get a new Bond actor, a large portion of the fanbase freaks out about how the new Bond is too serious, or not serious enough, or too blond, or too whatever.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]… and then they fork over the money for the next movie tickets anyway… and a large chunk of them end up enjoying the movie after all… and a minority goes onto the internet to complain… and nobody important cares.
So, yeah. Don't act like after decades of recasting happening, and old franchises going strong and making money, that suddenly RDJ as Iron Man is some kind of exception.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. And then, when they do a really good job, they begin to debate whether the newest version is the best Bond ever.
Problem is RDJ IS Iron Man. He'd be really hard to replace.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! No more than any other character who has ever been recast.
Yeah. Please stop perpetuating this "RDJ literally is Tony" thing.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. And Sean Connery is James Bond. Right up until he wasn't.
The James Bond movies have a looser continuity than the MCU, though. Because they're almost reboots in a sense, it's easier to get away with a different interpretation. With recasting Stark the implication would be that this is the same Tony Stark we saw do all those awesome things in past movies. So if the new actor does something radically different, it will feel out of character. Yet merely following Downey's portrayal note by note will still leave one stuck in his shadow.
It was easier to get away with for Cheadle and Ruffalo because Cheadle's Rhodey wasn't all that different from Howard's and got more to do. And few were all that attached to Norton's Banner, since The Incredible Hulk grossed so low. They had a much lower bar to leap over than a new Stark would.

Okay, compare Spider Man then. Is Tobey Mc Guire Spider Man?
The sad, REAL American dichotomyNo, but they had the benefit of a hardcore reboot. They didn't just make Spider-Man 4 with a completely new actor. They nuked the continuity of the previous movies and started over with a brand new origin and villain and everything.
Also keep in mind the actor swaps for James Bond done happen in a short space of time of late.
Audiences normally get a few years to appreciate the departure of the previous actor, and learn to anticipate the depute of the new actor, but The Marvel Cinematic Universe moves at such a pace it would be difficult.
I think Tony and Steve are absolutely recastable, but preferably with some downtime. But killing them off and going down the legacy road is more interesting to me personally.
I prefer the legacy route.
Also, I was randomly looking up Adam Warlock since he apparently showed up in Avengers: EMH and I Didn't remember.
I had no idea that he was Thanos's nemisis and a founding memeber of the Go G and a posessor of one of the Infinity Gems.
Does this mean that there is potential for him to show up in the Go G movie eventually as a sort of mission commander? I mean, it would make sense, right?
The Blog The ArtI'm not that fond of Adam. He renders others pointless when it comes to Thantos stories.
Really, potential future members of GOG I'm excited about has to be Quasar.
Wow, I've just realised I've been spelling his name wrong for years.
Quasar was one of the Guardians I was most looking forward to, and was very bummed by her absence. She would've been the first non-straight superhero (possibly character period?) in the MCU, and possibly the first one onscreen period.

There's some LGBT characters in Agents of SHIELD.
But, if GOG gets a sequel, I'm certain we'll see her.
There are?
Well, my feminist websites seem to think so. I've not watched since The Hub, which had a character from the comics who was LGBT, but it didn't come up.
It's weird because it fits him so well.◊
Also relevant.
