Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Honestly I expected weirder.
This song needs more love.Sony's public statement on the matter did claim that maybe Disney wanted Feige to focus more on their other properties.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIn a way it makes sense. The X-Men are a much more viable property for building an entire mini-universe around than whatever Sony is attempting with Spider-Man. Deadpool, X-Factor, X-Force, the various teen/school spin-offs like the New Mutants, Generation X or Academy X...that's not even counting potential solo movies for characters like Wolverine, Storm, Cable, Gambit, ect...
Possibly even more so than the Avengers, the X-Men are basically a universe unto themselves. Fox sat on that gold mine for as long as possible before they finally pulled the trigger on Deadpool, but there's a lot of untapped potential there.

So, Dark Phoenix is partially responsible for this mess?
It's not often you see a film that can kill two franchises at once. But Dark Phoenix found a way.
Okay, I joke. But still... this isn't really helping matters.

Right. I don't know what's what anymore.
Until we get 100% factual claims on everything and no sudden nope! That's wrong! stuff, I'm just gonna hate everyone.
And when we do get the above, I'll hate them with a reason.
Because I just want Spiderman in my MCU, and all this other shit is just in the way. That's it. If it's in the way, it's no good.
One Strip! One Strip!Man did Dark Phoenix taint the name of the X-Men.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Why do I expect at least one Take That! at Fox in a potential Marvel X-Men movie?
Nearly everyone is looking pretty bad on the Spider-Man issue. Hopefully, someone will make sense of it and things could work out.
Wake me up at your own risk.Definitely expect some in Deadpool.
I don't really see any version of this where Disney doesn't eventually get Spider-Man sooner or later. They just have to sweat it out.
This song needs more love.Yeah. But how do you do that without them looking too bad?
Wake me up at your own risk.Having not seen Dark Phoenix yet, what exactly is wrong with it?
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.Have you ever seen X-Men 3?
Because amusingly they both somehow have the near exact same problems.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Best case scenario for them would be a bunch of bombs in a row causing Sony to practically beg Disney to save their franchise.

This song needs more love.A bunch of characters are killed off for no reason?
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.Huh, who died in Dark Phoenix?
I can only think of Mystique the moment.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's sobering to realize that the only adaptation of the Dark Phoenix storyline that didn't completely muck it all up was the Nineties Animated series' take. And that's because it was largely faithful to the comics.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWhich is sad cause the Dark Phoenix Saga has such an epic scale it could potentially rival the Infinity Saga in the realms of awesomeness.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The only way the Dark Phoenix Saga could work today would be if they made an X-Men TV show and had it go for five seasons and the Dark Phoenix Saga would literally be the entire fifth season.
The Dark Phoenix saga also had years of build-up and consistant characterization to play off of. It's like the Death of Superman. If you cant build up to it, it has no impact.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireOh hey its Jay Edidin of Xplain the X-Men!
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo is it appropriate to yell JEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAN here
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.
The Doc Ock currently running around is a backup mind safe-guarded in a robot made before Ock gave up Peter’s body & died for real.
