Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

I'd rank Spider-Man, in terms of being a Fantastic family member below Crystal, Medusa, She-Hulk, and Lyja Johnny's alien ex-wife who he thought was Alicia who looked identical to his sister.
Oh and for that matter Alicia. Silver Surfer.
There's just a lot of people on the list before Spider-Man. He's a close family friend, I guess.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe less said about Spidey's radioactive body fluids, the better.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Recently, Gwenpool asked for his radioactive fluids in order to become radioactive herself and get superpowers.
Well, she shouldn't. That comic was terrible. And featured a really f*cking cool Doc Ock carcass hauled around by his still-functional robot arms' AI after having long since passed away. But otherwise terrible.

New theme music also a boxSpider-Isle sort of retconned that part of Reign away anyway. What with the plot point about 'sharing toothbrushes'
Forever liveblogging the AvengersEh. If Reign had anything cool enough to use (like that thing Tobias mentioned with the AI in Ock's arms still functioning long after Ock dies...which he's some precedent in that there used to be times where the arms would work on their own even if he was knocked out or something) then it should be used in a better context.
One Strip! One Strip! What's next? Every girlfriend of Peter potentially sudden gaining Spider powers?
Wake me up at your own risk.Well that's just Mary Jane and Gwen so..
New theme music also a boxAnd then they all turn into spider-monsters.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Wasn't there a time in the comics where Peter Parker ran Stark Industries? I kind of assumed that was the direction they were going after Far From Home.
J. Jonah Jameson with spider-powers is the next thing we need to adapt.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'll be cool with that. They'd probably have to do reshoots to add MCU elements to Morbius and treat Venom 2 as a soft reboot than a full-on sequel, but if Spider-Man stays, I won't complain.
- On the next Spider-Man movie, Sony and Marvel can go in 90-10.
- But they go 50-50 — each company providing 50% of the production costs and reaping 50% of the profits — for the movie after that one: Spider-Man/Deadpool.
You know you want it.
Oh, I don't want Spider-Man/Deadpool...

As much as I'd like a Spider-Man/Deadpool crossover, a friendly reminder: MCU Spidey is a teenager (and a quite innocent one, "how's your daughter, Mr Delmar?" notwithstanding). Mr. Pool, well, is a friggin' soldier of fortune who makes sex jokes 24/7, gets into quite violent jobs and now messes up with Thanos on a daily basis. I mean, I have a hard time seeing both together for now.

... And that's called jazz!Parker Industries, but yes. And that is a story ripe for improvement by adaptation.
See, the way it worked in the comics is that Peter is a garbage-person who sucks at life. He was murdered by Doc Ock, who swapped brains with him and proceeded to live his life better than he does. Ock proceeded to get Peter his PHD and found his own company while also making peace with Jameson, because these are all things Peter could have done if he didn't suck so bad.
But the one thing Ock wasn't better than Peter at was being Spider-Man, so he wound up having to cede the body back to Peter in order to defeat the Green Goblin. After that, Peter was now responsible for the company. He proceeded to drive it into the ground because he's a garbage-person who sucks at life. The end.
It's an interesting idea but there's, uh. There's a lot that could use some adaptational sprucing up in that.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Yeah Spider-Man/Deadpool is not exactly advisable at the moment cause Peter is both still a teenager & a virgin unaccustomed to sexuality yet when a big part of the dynamic the two have is the homo-eroticism they share.
At one point Wade & Peter start pole-dancing in heir underwear, in front of a group of women (& Lady Thor). Not exactly something I should see Holland-Peter doing.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Intergenerational Friendship is a thing.
And Spider-Man/Deadpool proves the two can be bad besties. Marvel Studios can figure something out.
By the way, an analyst for Wall Street says what some of us already know.
Namely, how Marvel and Sony not working something out will be a lose-lose for BOTH of them. However, Sony has way more to lose if they go on their own because they will not score a billion dollars without Feige and Marvel.
Doubt a new Spidey movie made with the "all publicity is good publicity" philosophy would be a good thing anyway.
Wake me up at your own risk.Yeah, a Spider-Man/Deadpool film wouldn't have their friendship exactly like it is in the comics. Instead, we could have a more PG-13 Deadpool (who is still angry about not being able to swear or being bleeped out) trying to befriend Spider-Man, because, hey, he's Spider-Man! His last movie made a billion dollars! And who knows when they might be able to meet again, wink wink nudge nudge.
And then Deadpool would try to corrupt Peter for the rest of the movie and Peter would, in return, prevent Deadpool from killing anyone.
Also: oh what a tangled web we weave with who owns the rights to what.

They probably won't score a billion dollars even with Feige and Marvel. Under the 70/30 split, a Spider-Man film would have to make $1.429b for Sony to see that kind of cash.
To date, the only MCU movies that have made that level of cash are the first Avengers, Infinity War, and Endgame.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Whoa. WHOA WHOA WHOA HANG ON.
Maybe the Parker Industries storyline wasn't the best in the world but lets not get our facts mixed up here.
Peter didn't drive the company into the ground.
(Warning: Secret Empire talk ahead. Comic books!)
After that Clone Conspiracy stuff mentioned last page Doc Ock wound up working with (Or rather, he was using), HYDRA. He used the HYDRA assets he had to launch an attack on Parker Industries and, with the help of a backdoor protocol he had thanks to, y'know, MAKING THE COMPANY, he was about to hijack all of Parker Industries' assets.
So Peter made the right, if somewhat very difficult call, to shut down all of Parker Industries. Cause ultimately it was either lose a lot of money and cause a lot of people to lose their jobs...Ooooooor Doc Ock uses the Parker Industries tech to make what was already a bad situation with HYDRA and Nazi Cap even worse.
Peter of course got shit on immensely by the public for that call but hey, what else is new?
I thought Doc Ock became a good guy just before he got expectorated from Peter's body. How did they justify going from that to working with actual Nazis?
This song needs more love.Even with Peter's memories on him, Ock's grip on morality is tenuous at best. Didn't change his methods all that much.
Wake me up at your own risk.
They should introduce the Fantastic Four 2 at a time (Sue and Richard Reeds first and Ben and the Human Torch later)
