If we go by MAL scores, Frieren has a 0.3 lead over FMA: Brotherhood (9.39 vs 9.09) as the top rated anime on the site.

It has become almost a seasonal tradition that one big hyped up anime will top FMA on MAL and then drop below it again a bit after. Remains to be seen if Frieren can keep up that lead permanently, but if she can that would be a genuinly impressive feat.

There's Kingdom Hearts man, Xenogears I think his name is. I think that's universally agreed to just be a repeat of Yoda VS King Mickey though. Kingdom Hearts is apparently a pretty busted franchise.
Other option I often hear is Emperor from Warhammer 40000.

Just for fun, suggesting Ming the Merciless, since he's probably one of Palpatine's inspirations. But seeing as he's a raging Yellow Peril stereotype, probably not.

As far as the debate goes, Xehanort VS Palpatine doesn’t work out any better in the favor for the Star Wars guy, though obviously both sets of characters are about as different as they could possibly be in role, style, combat capabilities, etc. to the point that I don’t think it’d feel like a repeat as a battle.
That said yeah, Xehanort probably sweeps. Of course, both also do have plenty of other viable opponents (especially Xehanort, you could make a list of opponents for each of his incarnations individually).
Yeah, even if you don't use the usual Kingdom Hearts power level wanking for Xehanort and highball Palpatine with every Legends feat you could imagine, Xehanort just wins.
But still, I want the fight for the sheer hamminess of it all.

I wouldn't call Palpanort just Yodickey 2, or that that's the community perception of it.
Completely different fight dynamics, connections, personalities, etc.

I read a Deviantart Death Battle with him against Voldemort, too.
It's somewhat difficult to find a good match for Palpatine, because a lot of characters of his type aren't as powerful as he is. The "evil monarch running the evil space empire" type is often fairly powerless once the hero breaks through all their weapons and defenses and meets them one on one.
That said, my mind keeps drifting to Emperor Belos.

Eh, Belos has Father, which is a basically perfect match for him.

Can’t really say that Belos vs Palpatine tickles my fancy compared to their more popular opponents
The main one I hear for Palpatine is Xehanort, who beyond being elderly schemers that wear black don't really have much in common with one another, and as noted here is such a stomp in Xehanort's direction that it probably wouldn't be much fun to watch.
I dunno, the more I think about Belos and Palpatine, the more I think they're pretty well matched in terms of narrative (moreso definitely than Belos and Father, anyway) with fairly similar backstories, and while Palpatine has the edge overall the fact that the kinds of magic they use are so different means the fight would be bost visually interesting and there may be avenues that Belos uniquely has that he could exploit to make the odds more even.
Sounds more fun than anything else I've heard for either character.

One thing I wouldn't mind about Palpatine VS Xenoblade or whatever is that Palpatine is absolutely the kind of guy who I would not mind seeing get the Homelander treatment. Just putting him in a match that he has no chance of winning. I'm not big into Star Wars lore, but from what I understand, he's a massive evil dick who wants to rule the world galaxy because he's a massive evil dick. I would happily see that wrinkly old jerk get dunked on by a wizard who fights Donald Duck.
Are there any popular Kingdom Hearts match-ups that they lose? It sounds like just from the way they move from location to location, every character is billions of times lightspeed. Sasuke VS Riku was popular for a while, if Riku isn't strong enough to immediately kill him - which he probably is - then Sasuke's hax could come into play. It would also just be nice for Sasuke to get the Shadow, Darth Vader and Guts treatment, where his first episode wasn't that great so they brought him back for a better one.
Frankly as long as Kingdom Hearts power levels keep getting wanked to high hell I don't think there's anything they lose barring...maybe Riku vs. Meta Knight?

I think the only notably popular KH matchup where they stand a chance of losing is Riku VS Cecil Harvey, and even then Riku still has all the usual hax associated with being a Keyblade Master. It's just Dissidia cross-scaling gets kinda funky if you give it to Cecil.

Yeah, like, ultimately even putting the KH-verse where it SHOULD top (Universal at the least) instead of where people THINK it should go (Multi+), a lot of their match-ups are against people who like, at best, could be Planetary, with the exception being Palpatine who could in theory get to Solar System with Legends scaling.
Even Cecil, as mentioned above, has to require some questionable finagling to get him into range to fight Riku.

Does Palpatine get a Death Star, Galaxy Gun, Eclipse class super star destroyer, or the less exciting fleet of super laser Star destroyers?

Even with just passing knowledge of Frienen as a character, pitting her up against Hohenheim is something that just clicks with me instantly. Would love to see that as an actual fight should the show survive that long.
