I'm not so sure. Maybe at the national level but state and local levels seem to be all in for Trump.

Republicans will not let Trump destroy the party by splitting the base and making his own third party. They'll bend the knee as they always have. Trump is the GOP for the foreseeable future.

No. Back then it was all about the support of the military, the industrialists, and the ruling class. The German public was a lot more authoritarian in their culture than we are today, and public opinion was based on fear of a communist uprising, and of course the effects of the Great Depression.

Yeah, while Trump lost he didn’t make the entire party loose, as long as the calculation is between “Back Trump and maybe never win the presidency again but keep my deep red seat” and “Don’t back Trump and loose my seat before the party maybe rebuilds in 6 years” they will pick the former.
Some have broken ranks because the choice has changed to being between “Back Trump and maybe get murdered by his next crazy mob that’s can’t tell I’m on his side” and “Don’t back Trump and become politically irrelevant”, but for most they’re still seeing it as the first choice.
The only thing that will break Trump’s hold is elected Republicans fearing for their own lives (which even after the Capitol attack they don’t, they think the attack was a one off) or the party failing so spectacularly because of Trump that Trump’s threat to split the party is the options that costs them less seats.

I don't think "end democracy" is shortsighted, if anything it's the opposite.
They recognize the long-term problems their party has, so they've adopted a solution that will solve them.

Trump has been referred to as a symptom. Their tumor might have grown huge way faster than they imagined, but he is basically the logical conclusion of everything they have been doing since at least Nixon.

Referring to past presidents as "President [surname]" is fairly common in US media (not sure if this is true elsewhere), so just this once I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

The GOP will suffer in votes and elections...if and only if the assertion that a sufficiently gerrymandered majority of the U.S population is not completely willing to vote for a self about white supremacist by name.
