Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Hence why there's talk of the 14th Amendment being passed.
Jeff Van Drew meanwhile... being a suck-up again. As usual.
I have a feeling the Republican side is reserving so much because they're going "Fuck! I need to rethink/rewrite my speech!"
And James Clyburn pointed out why they're doing it "So he can never take power AGAIN."
Annnd Ken Buck just called Hollywood "Socialists." And got shut up mid-sentence because he ran out of time.
Jamie Raskin knocked it out of the park.
..and was immediately followed by Gaetz going "BIDEN CRIME FAMILY!"
...and unsurprisingly he nearly made a bunch of folks cross the Aisle and beat the hell out of him.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Yeah... Republicans are definitely reserving so much because they need to re-write their speeches.

“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollMc Carthy's talking.
He just basically told his fellows to stop claiming it was Antifa.
My god, this guy might be a Hope Spot.
Annnnnd there it went.
Still, he DID go on record saying Antifa had nothing to do with it, so... yay?
He probably just made at least a half-dozen of his fellows have to re-write their speeches. Again.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido.Good to know Republicans are so desperate to keep their asses in their seats they'll fight for the guy that tried to kill their own just a week ago, I guess
Gotta love this bit of Snark from Jami Raskin:
"it's a bit much to be hearing that these people would not be trying to destroy our government and kill us if we just weren't so mean to them."
Mc Carthy apparently DID also say that Trump is to blame, he just doesn't support impeaching because "It's too late to do it."
Lauren Boebert is being the inflammatory little bitch she is. As usual. And got shut up because she went overtime. Again. "RAH, THE LEFT ARE HYPOCRITES!" Well, ofc she's doing that, she's provably COMPLICIT in what's going on.
Dan Newhouse just said he'd vote yes. Sixth Republican do so.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido.Amazing, Republicans do not have anything besides "but unity" and "WELL WHAT ABOUT THE LEFT?"
Beutler makes it seven in favour (I think). There ARE some of them who've finally had enough.
Because, quote: "My vote is for the TRUTH."
Might be worth calling 'em Retrumplicans now.

You know this might be the perfect time, perhaps for the first time, to call for a large scale pro-democracy rally in the US.
What would one look like?
Everyone wearing masks as a start?
And hold the distance from one another while marching?
Tom Tiffany's trying to say the Dems worked with "Big Tech."
And that text from Trump definitely wasn't him.
As far as we know.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido. Is that another word of empty paranoia like "Deep State" that is used by the Qultists?
Although conservatives make widespread use of social media platforms to spread their messages and connect to one another, many of them have a problem with the large IT companies because the billionaire owners sometimes contribute to Democratic campaigns.
Hah, just had the Republican leader ask how much time both sides had.
Republicans are going going through their minutes at breakneck speed, whereas the Dems have a full five more minutes because they've actually used them properly.
Add Veronica Escobar to the list.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido.Which list?
R's willing to impeach
I thought she was a Democrat?
The irony about "Big Tech" is that there are valid concerns about the power of tech corporations and their ability to influence government policy, but the very idea of regulating that is more disgusting to most Republicans than anything Trump has done.

Musta mis-saw. Apologies.
Course, the Republicans are reserving so much it's hard to remember whose turn it is.
We already saw that last summer.

Semper Fi. Semper Paratus. Vigilo Confido.I just saw the National Guard camping out in the Capitol on TV. What a sight, the Capitol turned into a barracks.
What ominous symbolism, too.
Optimism is a duty.
Anyone who still supports and tries to shield Trump at this point, deserves to be fired with immediate effect.
Because anyone who still does so, clearly have broken the oath they took when they took office and have zero interest in upholding the constitution in the slightest...
