Needs major reversion and possible rename: Dub Induced Plot Hole

A while back (April), someone who took the title of this trope too seriously without reading its text closely enough or knowing its background decided to basically eviscerate this trope, removing numerous genuine examples. (and likely some that really did need to be axed)

I'm, sadly, not certain how to even begin a reversion on this scale in any helpful manner.

As well, the name here wasn't decided on properly — rather, it was unilaterally renamed by a random user without a Crowner, and this trope name was reluctantly accepted simply because it was a lot less stupid than what he previously tried to rename it to.

... Did I do something wrong?

Hrrrm, the page was renamed in January 2009 in YKTTW. Might have been before we even started to use crowners for renames. And it sure as hell is better than the old name. The archive discussion does show this happened unilaterally LONG, LONG AGO So what IS the problem with the new name? How is it broken? Or do you just have issues with what happened over 2.5 years ago?

As for the excision, I couldn't really see it in the history. What exactly happened? Can you give more details?

I think Nezumi may be more concerned about the more recent axing of examples than the stuff she wrote about later in the post, which seems to be more what you're focused on. I think we should ignore that and am also requesting more information on this purported overly-literal-example-axing.

Last I checked, it's way back in the history, but still in there — you need to expand it. Essentially, what they did is remove everything that they thought didn't sufficiently affect the plot — some of these were things that legitimately were just complaining about bad translations... but others were valid examples, as this isn't about things that totally derail the plot, but about scenes that no longer make sense due to inconsistencies in how the translation was handled — a scene no longer actually making any coherent sense as part of the story (such as the scene that was the former trope namer and is still the page quote) is a plot hole, even if it doesn't affect the overall flow of the plot in the long term, and it was with that rationale that it's called "Dub Induced Plot Hole", not because these have to be huge plot-derailing issues, as that person seemed to think. Hell, the ex-trope-naming and page-quote-providing example, unless I missed it, was one that was removed in this purge as not sufficiently plot-derailing.

I just brought up the name change because it was seemingly the reason for this incident, and was thus causing problems, combined with the fact that the change was never actually properly handled in the first place. It wasn't really a major issue. Hence it coming second and being labeled "possible." When a trope name causes someone to completely eviscerate the trope over a misunderstanding of what it means, that seems like a warning that the name might not be good... but, honestly, it's not a real issue compared to the massive wipe. Lemme see if I can pull that up in the history and show you what all was removed.

EDIT: Well, part of the problem is that someone apparently beat me to reverting all that without my noticing. I've been way too out-of-it lately. Still a bit disappointed that someone would actually unilaterally cut away so much of the trope without making sure they actually understood it right.

How recent was the cutting? The wayback machine may have archived previous versions of the page.

Does anyone know how to close this? As I mentioned, someone beat me to the issue without my noticing, so this discussion is fairly irrelevant?
