I didn't expect Cecil to pop up, actually. Since I never played the game, all I know is that he has a whatthefuck-plot-path. I'd take him as cat, though. The scene with Cecile left me all "WTF" anyway.

Mamoru Miyano sang Amazing Grace. WHAAAAAAT? I fucking love that song (with no religious motivation whatsoever, I just effin' love that song from music classes years ago), and I think he doesn't sing it half-bad. (Heard some people complaining about his singing - I find he sings just fine). So I personally was too distracted by fangirling over that song in particular (and maybe a bit that Miyano and a bunch of others sang that song rather well) to pay attenmtion what Tokiya's problem actually is now. Still have no clue....he sang just fine after that accident, right? Yes, I stopped listening/reading the subs in favor of listening to teh pretty piano solo that accompanied the Amazing Grace singing.

So, anyway, why didn't they put all guy's decidion to choose Haruka in this one episode as sort of climax? Instead of spilling that over to the next episode? Oh whatever...

...I wanna poke Shining's stomach, actually. For some odd reasons.

Scenery Porn, this episode was. Admit it. Beautiful bird view on the island and starry sky...stuff. okay, the opening has this, too, but...

Natsuki doesn't seem THAT clueless about his other personality than Sho makes him out to be, as it seems.

I lamend the limited fanservice for girls, actually. Aside from orientally dressed Cecile and the short, onviusly fansevice-ish shower scene with Ren and maybe Haruka almost running into shirtless Tokiya...the guys in their swimming stuff wasn't impressive, I am disappointed.

[/end rant] I'll listen to Natsuki/Satsuki's image song now.

I love how half the comments in the niconico stream for this episode were pretty much: "WHAT IS THIS I DONT EVEN"

Okay, I'll write more in a second, after I finish watching the episode, I just had to chime in half way through and say WHAT THE F*CK?

Edit: Woah, dreaming, thank God. That was some Mood Whiplash Disney Acid Sequence.

I think the kids scene was trying to get across that he really wants to sing meaningful stuff that makes people happy, and after that none of the stuff he sang felt good enough, or something. You're right, it didn't really explain it much. Or maybe that is supposed to show his motivation for singing, not why he can't do it good enough now. Oh, and I liked his Harmony for Amazing grace. Nice.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense why he is so desperate to sing and have a concert (he kinda promised those kids, right?). The reason why he got bad was just in this one sentence: "...I lost my aim" ...or something along these lines. Very...=_= as a non-native English speaker I currently search for the right expression and dictionaries give me examples that don't quite fit what I want to say. Uhm, well, if I can't be sarcastic, I'll be blunt: nondescript

Well, everything in UtaPri probably runs on Rule of Funny, it IS a comedy musical otome game/anime. Okay, most would say Shining Saotome alone runs on both Rule of Funny and Rule of Cool.

I wonder if Ren's fangirls will show their teeth NOW if they find out Ren chose Haruka. They can add a bit of that cliché drama, can't they? It would be amusing.

Why the hell is this so popular if people just bang their heads and question their sanity when watching this? Can't be only because of the game's fame, ...can it be?

This is Uta No Princesama it shameless LIVES BREATHES AND EATS cliched drama and Shojo-tropes.

And we LOVE it for it!

Oh, and I can name six really hot...I mean, big reasons why we keep watching this show.

Relatedly, it has really good character designs.

Ahahaha, so there are people who admit it? I consider the anime at least as my Guilty Pleasure. I have yet to play the game.

And I agree, the design is pretty nice-looking.

Still, it is easy to make fun of. Granted, it is party made to be made fun of because it IS funny.....

I can't really imagine them spending a whole episode on Ren's fangirls. There are only 5 episodes left, and the last one is going to be some kind of finale where they'll use the full ED sequence that they so lovingly animated again, so it's really more like 4 episodes.

Maybe part of an episode, but probably not more than that.

I woudl be happy if they included just some shots of jealous fangirls, every now and then littered across the next episode or something. Since that kind of drama-angst is not central in the series, I don't expect anything else. Bonus points if Haruka notices. Then again, she probably wouldn't. ..which is probably why those scenes don't exist in the first place, since they would be pointless...eh, whatever, I am hoping, still.

^^ yeah it kind of seems like they'll end up being a boyband because she can't choose which she wants to write for.

Unrelated to the anime, but could it be that the PSP remake UtaPri Repeat has a path (not sure about the path, maybe just a side-story, or something; he has one CG, maybe more) with younger Shining Saotome? Apparently involves time machines....

Episode 9 in a sentence: Life is just so hard when you have 6 guys that want to be your partner.

I thought the episode was pretty dull, although Ringo's scene at the end was sort of funny.

Ren and Masato need to just hurry up and realize they are gay for each other. And as far as I'm concerned, Shou and Natsuki have been screwing off screen this whole time, this episode confirmed it.

You know you could easily rewrite this story as a Boys' Love without Haruka at all. Ren/Masato, Shou/Natsuki and Otoya/Tokiyo. It's very convenient that they share rooms...heheh.

You and half—or more than half—the fandom, it seems.

Though if they cut Nanami out of the picture they'd have to do huge amounts of story rewriting to even have any kind of a plot.

Forgot to mention this earlier, but Nanami's insert song was decent. I really dislike that Miyuki Sawashiro has to use a higher register, though, which sounds even more strained when singing than just talking; I much prefer the lower one she uses for Celty.

Well, she sings the song pretty well for having to sound high and unsexy...

So it was only one Beach Episode in the end. I am disappointed. And uhh...the episode was plotlessly amusing. Poor Haruka probably feels like her head is exploding now.

As for the Ho Yay subtext...well. Fans picked up on it a long time ago. Pixiv is swamping with fanarts. And it's hot. But I think I wouldn't have watched it if it was blatant Ho Yay-anime. I like the not-so-subtle subtext, even if it's an otome game anime adaption.

At is at this point where one turns to fanfic to fill int he blanks.

But seriously, I haven't played the game so I don't know how it is. I am assuming Boy Band of everyone. When it comes down to it though, if there would only be one person to win, I think Otoya and Tokiyo have the best chance, with Masato being a distant second.

Before I forget, I like that the school apparently keeps a piano on the roof in the case of impromptu performances. Perhaps this happens a lot there, or something.

Also, boy band prediction was correct.

But really, that's some Informed Ability there. If the song induced that in real life then I wouldn't have started skipping over the ED sequence every episode! >:I

The the ED makes me crack up, just because of how Pop-boy band it is. The first time I saw it (at the beginning of the first episode there) I laughed my ass off for like five minutes.

...lalalala. At least fans haven't ignored Satsuki's 'existence'. Though Natsuki gave off a very serious mood that at some points I though he might turn into Satsuki, regardless of the glasses.

And fuck, that was hilarious. o_o

At least Haruka's popularity didn't go unnoticed, which would have been really unrealistic but that's one of few things this series can fill in as realistic.

And whne I first saw that sequence in the first episode, I headdesked. Now however, it's still Guilty Pleasure. I want that piano version...

Compared to the ED I find this insert song much more tolerable, although I find the whole floating-in-space-shiny-sparkles thing hard to take seriously.

...Not that the rest of the show is any less ridiculous.

This show is one of my latest guilty pleasures. <3 It's just so goddamn hard to take seriously.
