Captain Toad Switch has alot of unused stages, about the same number of levels in the main game, including stages from the 3D World chapter, levels from 3D World, and then beta and demo levels.
15 minute Mario Maker 2 Direct tomorrow May 15th at 3 pm PDT.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Watched it. I still wish there were All-Star skins of SMB 1 and 3.
Hah, I knew we'd get vertical sub-levels. I've wanted that since the first game, and that ghost house stage in the reveal trailer made me suspect we got it.
Interesting how the Super Mario 3D World theme is in a separate section with a unique header, suggesting there's either more themes that change the core gameplay (such as SMB 2) or they'll be adding more to it later as updates. If 3D World were the only one it would have probably been arranged differently.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! But the 3D World selection is still 2D.
Super Mario 2.5D World.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Here's to All-Stars skins as DLC.
I've been thinking about how stars are usually plot coupons these days, which means it's a little incongruous when an old-school invincibility star appears. Especially in games like Galaxy that feature both types of stars.
I think one solution is to bring back Metal Mario as the invincibility power-up. Especially if you get it from a metal mushroom or metal flower (the metal box/cap always looked a little ugly to me). I'd especially love to see Metal Mario in 2D, since he would walk underwater as if he were on land, like Sonic, instead of swimming.
Just some thoughts.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?As soon as they mentioned that SM3DW style would be incompatible with the others due to being drastically different, I spent the rest of the Direct thinking "So does this mean we'll also get a SMB2 theme?" Not apparently at present, but hopefully in a future update.
Ukrainian Red CrossSunshine would be an interesting theme, various versions of Flood could be the power ups . Potentially Galaxy/Galaxy 2 as well with Spring and Cloud Mario.
In Galaxy, the invincibility star was called the Rainbow Star. I can't remember in the New games also had it be that or went back to using the Power Star, though.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Power Star.
Though it did retain Galaxy's effect of making Mario run faster on top of invincibility, which Super Mario Maker retroactively ported back into the older styles as well.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Star Man.
It's made Mario run faster since NSMB (2006)
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.The rainbow star is cool, but I think I still prefer Metal Mario because of the gameplay change-up. Then again, there are certainly situations where you need to swim and be invincible at the same time. Hmm.
As for the "radically different Mario Maker 2 game style that's incompatible with the main four" conversation, here's a crazy pitch: Yoshi's Island.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?My favorite game of all time~
But I don't think so. Gameplay is a little too departed even for a special style, I think, and its stages tend to be more... organic and lumpy rather than the rigid, block-based styles used in regular Mario games.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I mean, we do already have slopes, but I doubt they'd put in a game where Mario isn't the main playable character.
I've also seen Super Mario Land 2 pitched around, especially at GameXplain.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?You'd be 4 yoshis.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.It seems like there can be arguments made for most main Mario games to be a style. I still think SMB 2 is the best candidate though, followed by an Odyssey style with a capture mechanic.

I missed the part where that's my problem. When I got Super Mario Maker, I was disappointed that there was no 64 mode.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.64 is one of the ones I'm not sure would add much actually. Bar Nintendo making a full 3D Mario Maker somehow and having that as the basic theme, what unique features could it bring to the table?
I missed the part where that's my problem.I was thinking Metal Mario and Wing Mario, mostly.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Terrible polygon models.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Speaking of 64, its soundtrack is on Spotify.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."
There could be a gap sure, but I wouldn't expect one, certainly not a long one. Because with the "New" styles, they can make the games pretty easily. I imagine they have tools akin to a 3D Mario Maker (More fully featured of course, and too complex to easily translate into a game of its own). So they can make new games with relatively little development time and effort, just like they have with the 2D games since NSMB.
3D games like Odyssey in comparison take more time and work to make, since they need a ton of unique assets and game mechanics. Even a direct sequel with the same engine and some reused assets would take a good deal of work.
