General Mario Thread

So amassing all the new features shown...

• Sloped terrain, both steep and low.
• Some kind of new icon next to the Mario trail toggle, looks like something two-player-related.
• 10-coins.
• On-off switches that toggle special blocks being solid or not.
• Snake blocks that can have their path laid out using special arrows.
• What appears to be vertical stages, but not confirmed.
• An enemy that generates upward gusts.
• The Angry Sun.
• Tilting platforms, which can be put on tracks.
• New basic level types: Desert, snowy, forest
• A rising and lowering tide of water.
• Autoscroll that can progress at angles and change speeds.
• An icon next to a flag that says 50 coins- possibly alternate level completion goals instead of just touching the flagpole?
• Super Mario 3D World theme, with some new stuff:
  • Cat Suit power-up, climbable bell trees, gray bricks, ?-blocks that chain out of each other, and glass pipes.
  • Ant Trooper, Boom-Boom, Porcupuffer, Bullies, Creeping Piranha Plants, Hop-Chop, Skipsqueak, background Banzai Bill launchers, and Stingbies.
  • Amusement Park level type.
  • Unknown which of these features can be used in other themes, and which are exclusive to 3D World.
• Enemies can have parachutes attached to them, Super Mario World-style.
• A red pipe spawning enemies. Unclear whether pipes can be dyed various colors, or if that's specific to enemy spawners.
• A strange-looking level type with grass blocks, a starry night background, and bubbling lava. Possibly just a nighttime variant of the grassland, with a lava tide added in afterward.
• Luigi, Toad, and Toadette appear to be playable.
• Thwomps that travel sideways, like in Super Mario Bros. 3.
• What looks like bouncy platforms.
• A Koopa... driving a jeep?

Why does Captain Toad of all games get substantial DLC?

What exactly is the problem with that?

I don't think there's a problem with it but it does seem pretty random.

Cause it's reasonably popular and the way the game is designed it's probably extremely easy to make DLC for.

Probably. And I imagine Mario Maker 2 will be a good source for DLC as well, but hopefully not too soon since I'm almost overwhelmed by the amount of new stuff we're already getting.

So here's a question. Do you think it'll just be Luigi, Toad, and Toadette added as playable characters, or will we maybe get more? I wouldn't be surprised if we at least got Peach and Rosalina as well, given the new 3D World stuff.

daisy from mario run would be cool, also only bucken-berry (the official name of blue toad, yes, really!) is confirmed to be playable, so where's mah boi ala-gold!? (yellow one)

Part of me was thinking it might be cool to see Wario playable with Wario Land-style gameplay, but that's most definitely not gonna happen. Still, seeing DKC, Wario Land, and Yoshi's Island-themed expansions later on after release could be potentially interesting...

he was going to be in nsmb2 but was scrapped because they didn't want nsmbU and 2 to be released within a week of each other, so they ended up releasing a month apart. but still wario would be cool.

I'm looking forward to Mario Maker 2, but the Switch doesn't come with a stylus like the Wii U did, so using the touchscreen might not be as nice as it could be.

I don't plan on using the touchscreen anyway. I have a real "thing" about getting my fingerprints on stuff. Chances are there'll be a motion-controlled cursor or a new way to build that doesn't involve dragging and dropping. Maybe something like the Smash Bros. Brawl level editor.

Also, all this talk about Mario Maker 2 reignited my passion for the original, and I'm hard at work on a new stage that I think could be pretty cool. If I share the link here, would at least one of y'all play it and/or give it a star so it doesn't get booted off the server?

If I find the time, sure. I feel the same way, but I'm trying to hold myself off until the new one comes out. We'll see how long that lasts.

I might at least play through the Challenge Mode on the 3DS version again. Such an addictive feature, it's a shame it was on an otherwise completely inferior port.

I’m going to predict that Super Mario Maker 2 comes with a stylus in the package, just like Mario Paint with the mouse on SNES.

the new switch redesign (we all know it's gonna happen), all of nintendo's successful systems (gameboy, gba, ds, 3ds, nes, wii) have minor redesigns, thus I predict the switch redesign will come with a stylus built into the system

Even if it doesn't, I'll just use the Wii U one anyway, assuming that works. Might even make me nostalgic.

The Wii U stylus doesn't work on the Nintendo Switch touchscreen. In order to use the touchscreen, you'll need either your fingers or a stylus with a soft end to it.

If there's one I despise Nintendo for, it's abandoning the Virtual Console even if the abandonment will only be for the Switch right now.

Apparently, that "abandonment" has been somewhat blown out of proportion. From what I hear, they're just not calling it Virtual Console anymore.

I'm looking at the final fight of Super Mario Galaxy 2 thinking "where's Galaxy 3 going to go?" Then I looked at Odyssey.

Okay, but what's the next big step for Mario? Universe might sound cliche. He can't go into space again. He can't go into a "Mario Multiverse" again. Haunted houses are Luigi's thing. What's Mario going to do on the next big Nintendo system to blow our minds besides join Wall Street and become an investment banker/a bondsman or some noise?

Then it hit me. Three things hit me actually:

• do a Princess Peach game
• do a role reversal with the player being Bowser
• Super Mario Mini - Mario gets shrunken down and has to figure his way out of some kind of microverse controlled by Bowser

An actual non-Olympics-or-Smash Mario/Sonic crossover would be pretty hype.

He could explore all the other areaa of sunshine, each with different gimmicks and npcs

I still want to see an HD remake of Sunshine that takes out the blue coin shines and makes more actual levels instead.
