Culex is harder than the final boss. If you're strong enough to beat him, then you will walk through the final set of dungeons with no resistance.

I'm about level 20 now.

Lazy Shell is Mario's best weapon in the game, but the armor of the same name turns Peach into an indestructible tank. Or anyone, really, but Lazy Shell Peach makes all the rest of the bosses, even Culex, a cakewalk.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yeah I'm fighting him right now and he's kicking my ass, though Lazy Shell Peach has basically tanked everything thus far.
What Ive been doing is having Mario attack the Red Crystal while Geno casts Geno Flash, but that doesn't seem to be working. Also Geno dies like every other turn and I can't nail the Timed Hit for Peach's Come Back.
Destroy the Crystals from right to left. The Wind Crystal has the lowest HP and knows Light Beam and Petal Blast, so it should be the first to go; you may want to bust out your Rock Candies or bombs here, because while it only has 800 HP it has high defenses, so fixed-damage items can wear it down fast AND injure the other crystals to boot. The Earth Crystal has a lot of very dangerous spells as well as Sandstorm, which inflicts party-wide fear, so destroy that next. The Water Crystal should go after that, and the Fire Crystal can be saved for last since it only has one dangerous attack (Corona).
Once Culex is on his own he's pretty easy, just keep in mind that his Shredder attack removes any stat boosts you may have applied with items or Geno Boost, so you may want to reapply those frequently. Speaking of which, Geno should be applying Geno Boost to Mario, himself, and Peach (preferably in that order) before he goes on the offensive, and mix in some physical attacks so as to conserve FP for Boosting.
For Come Back, the timing is right as the star touches the downed party member.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Well I beat him, and I definitely wouldn't have if not for Lazy Shell Peach. I still burned through some rare items to do it but I figure it's the ultimate boss so why not.
I attacked the Crystals right to left so that probably didn't help.
You mean left to right?
Either way, if you beat Culex, the rest of the game's a cakewalk. There's no challenge left.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yeah that.
I don't get why Punchinello wasn't a Smithy Gang member. He's a boss patterned after a weapon guarding a star. I honestly thought he was until he didn't go mentioned by the Smithy Gang.
Well I beat it. Smithy surprisingly put up a good fight after Culex, definitely more so than Jinx.
Goodbye Geno is such a good song and a great sendoff to the character but it's okay because we'll be seeing him in Smash Ultimate right?
Right?

What does the Quartz Charm actually do? For that matter, what does the Ghost Medal do? I hate that Mario RPG gives such piss-poor descriptions of its items and equipment.
Also, the timing for Peach's Comeback is one of the easiest in the game. Hit Y right before the star touches the character. Honestly, the only ones I don't get are the ones where you have to "rotate the d-pad." The hell does that mean? The d-pad doesn't rotate!
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?the Quartz charm raises offense and defense by 50% and prevents instant death. The Ghost Medal raises defense by 50%
Yes it does. Sort of. You press in one direction and then rotate your thumb so that the input changes going in a circle. So you go from pressing Up to pressing Up-Left to pressing Left to pressing Down-Left and so on. If you're familiar at all with fighting games, it's the same as the quarter-circle or half-circle inputs, just a full circle.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Oof, I've never liked those inputs. And honestly it doesn't feel like it makes much of a difference in Mario RPG. Maybe it's just because rotating your thumb doesn't feel as good as pressing a button.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Rotate the d-pad you say?
That reminds randomness of 64 DS...what a feat that is.
Even more so on a keyboard...except it's actually easier.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I played on VC so I had a joystick to rotate.
Made Mallow even more OP with Snowy.
To be more specific, the Ghost Medal and Quartz Charm provide a defense and attack boost at the start of the battle, and it's the exact same mechanic as Geno Boost, certain items, and the random stat boosts from defeated enemies.
You can only have one each of Offense and Defense Up boosts at a time, so there's no sense in boosting your attack if you're already wearing the Quartz Charm or boosting your defense if you're already wearing the Ghost Medal.
Incidentally, this also means that if your opponent uses the Shredder move (which removes your party's buffs), the items in question become dead weight for the rest of the battle (though you can always Geno Boost your way back up).
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It's official, Waluigi is more popular than Luigi. Science has decided.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.I have an odd question about Mario Party 9. In Boo's Horror Castle, the animation that plays when a Boo catches up to the players (they open their mouths, sticks out their tongues, and the mini-stars fly up towards them) strongly suggests that they're eating or otherwise destroying the mini-stars.
Is there any other point in the series where Boos are depicted as actually eating stuff? In most of the other games in the series, they just float up to you and scare you.

You force feed King Boo spicy peppers in Super Mario Sunshine.
That answers my question. Thanks! On that train of thought, "ghosts who can eat" might have potential as a trope.
They lick Luigi in his double bogey animation in Golf 3DS. The comics have them trying to eat the Mario Bros. before Mario goes all therapist.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Bowser-themed orchestral concert announced for Japan
Truly an event fit for the Koopa King. Also, pretty sure that's a beta pic of Super Mario Galaxy.
Hologram Bowser singing like an idol or we riot.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Like the Tupac hologram at Coachella?
Oh, god, did Bowser die and nobody told me?

Lazy Shell get!
I figure I have enough to take on Culex and Jinx's final form before doing Bowser's Keep and Smithy's Factory
