First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.

With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.

First, a few starter questions.

  • How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
  • Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
    • Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
  • Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
  • Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?

Also, a personal question from me.

  • Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Then please, tell me why it makes sense to point out that many Whites are Republican voters when I point out how wrong it is to discriminate unvaccinated or people who don't want to wear a mask as an excuse not to issue how horrible healthcare system is in the USA.

You are implying that such discriminations are positive because it's punishing those "evil whites"? Never mind that such discriminations simply targets unvaccinated of any race and political spectrum? (And as I mentioned prior, Blacks are more unvaccinated than Whites, whether you liked it or not they've been more hit by vaccine passports).

You're implying that Democrats are seriously doing anything meaningful to improve healthcare situation? I would love to hear what would that be. Because I heard of many people complaining about Obamacare, and saying that their personal healthcare system was much better before. Are their issues unworthy of attention? Would they be evil selfish because they'd decide to vote Republicans as "lesser evil"?

And don't come and tell me "don't act dumb".

Literally no one is implying this, and I think you know that.

Frankly, between this "you just hate white people" talk and you blatantly putting words in people's mouths, I'm led to believe you're arguing in bad faith.

[up] Shiny Cotton Candy wrote " Who do you think votes for the people who refuse to improve healthcare though? " in response to me criticizing vaccine based discrimination. So I would like to hear from them. I want to understand what their message had to do at all with with my point. It's not me acting in bad faith. I get replied with a rhetorical question so the only thing I can do is guessing.

And no, I don't act in bad faith. Because if after a long message on my part, the only thing I get is some rhetorical question that barely has to do with my point, you can't blame me for thinking wrong.

[up]Unless I'm wrong, you said, don't blame antivaxxing whites (well, you said "vacine-hesitant", but in my experience the latter is just a fig leaf for the former), you said blame the healthcare system. I would have thought that I was clearly not referring to an entire demographic, because no demographic is a hivemind, but I guess I was mistaken.

[up][up]It's not complicated. It's the "common folk" you're talking about who are actively voting against these things and for politicians who likewise oppose them.

Also, if you don't want people thinking you're acting in bad faith, maybe stop doing things like putting "evil whites" in scare quotes as if anybody here actually said that.

I apologize for "is it an "all whites are like this" argument?" and the "evil whites" things. It was more snarky then I intended.

Yeah, you're right that many common folk vote for corrupt politicians that keep the corrupt system in place. But honestly, it made no sense to point that out. The result of these policies has been creating a consistent but pretty much real minority of stigmatized people, of any race, who never identified with either political side so they just found themselves utterly alone. That was my main point.

And really, I believe you when you say there was no maliciousness implied, but avoid making such comments "Who do you think votes for the people who refuse to improve healthcare though?". I do understand your point perfectly. But such sentence said in the wrong context can be much more hurtful than it seems, for the reasons I mentioned above.

article text because some people can't go to the page

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. - Some recent mass shootings in churches, schools, supermarkets, and more have lots of people on edge.

Just this week, we told you about a Macon training conference aimed at keeping houses of worship safe.

Now, a Warner Robins pastor says he was alarmed by a suspicious visitor on their campus.

Last week, someone called the Houston County Sheriff's Office about a suspicious visitor at Fellowship Bible Baptist Church. After the phone call, the sheriff's office opened an investigation.

On Dunbar Road in Warner Robins lies Fellowship Bible Baptist Church.

According to a Houston County incident report, last Wednesday night, an 18-year-old white man visited during their church service. The congregation is predominantly Black and members had never seen this man before.

"Just sometimes you get that feeling that something is just not right," Wyche said.

According to the Head of Church Security Ezra Wyche, the man acted strangely, so they took a picture of his car and checked his Facebook page.

"Because of the Facebook message, we had information we could look at and that's what brought us to the point where we were," Wyche said.

His online profile showed photographs of a rifle and a caption, "I'm no criminal, but if I'm gunna commit a crime, I'm only targeting gun-free zones."

Three Houston County officers and an officer from ATF, the federal agency, visited his home in Kathleen. They spoke with the man and his mom, who allowed them to search the house.

"This has got to be a partnership. I think we are learning that throughout the country," Lieutenant Ron Brainard with the sheriff's office said.

"The young man described his politics as extreme, but said he wouldn't hurt anybody. The report says he did not explain why he visited the church.

Brainard calls it an example of the community working well with law enforcement.

"If you're in a public event or area and you see something that's just in your mind that tells you, 'That doesn't look right,' please, in today's world, make that call and call 911 so that the proper authorities can get out there and make a determination of whether there is a threat or not," Brainard said.

"We hope this wouldn't happen in our community, but as we know, we just don't know what we are going to be faced with," Wyche said.

Pastor Tolan Morgan spoke with 13WMAZ off-camera.

"A threat walked into our church. He knows where we worshiped. He sat through the entire service. He knows my face and he is still out there. I need to protect my family... We came that close to dying. That guy could've walked in and went to spraying. He posted on his Facebook page that he's a new proud owner of an AR-15. He could've walked in Wednesday and went to killing. The fact that he didn't, one, was by the grace of God and, two, we have to view as he could come back. We came that close to danger coming to walk in our church. It's one of those situations where you have a reality check. Life comes and knocks on your door. You can't look at what happens across the country and say, 'That's not coming to my door.' That's foolish," Morgan said.

He also said he is thankful for their security team.

"Our security team is made up of former military, active military, and active law enforcement and former law enforcement. Based upon their training, they were able to identify a suspicious presence and, thankfully, they were correct," Morgan said. "We need to intensify the relationship with law enforcement and the community at large. Two, we need to prepare every place of mass gathering for such situations. Three, particularly with churches, we need to treat churches as if they're targets so that people can have safe places of worship."

Officers did not arrest the man but gave him a criminal trespass warning. That means he can't attend any services or functions at the church.

According to the incident report, the man's mother said she didn't want the rifle in her home and ordered him to take it back to the store.

The Houston County Sheriff's office also forwarded the investigation to the ATF and the FBI.

[up] Thank you.

I'm no criminal, but if I'm gunna commit a crime, I'm only targeting gun-free zones.

Uhm, yeah sure buddy.

In similar cases, should we expect that, after the warning, he's at least under some active surveillance (even if they didn't mention that explicitly) or the risk that he assaults the church undisturbed is still real?

DOJ charges current, former police officers in connection with raid that killed Breonna Taylor

The department is investigating the Louisville Police Department.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/doj-announces-charges-connection-raid-killed-breonna-taylor/story?id=87926113

    An Excerpt
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday that the Department of Justice has filed charges against four former and current Louisville police officers in connection with the death of Breonna Taylor. The charges include civil rights offenses, unlawful conspiracies, unconstitutional use of force and obstruction offenses.

"The federal charges announced today allege that members of a Police Investigations Unit falsified the affidavit used to obtain the search warrant of Ms. Taylor's home and that this act violated federal civil rights laws, and that those violations resulted in Ms. Taylor's death," Garland said in a news conference.

The federal charges against detective Joshua Jaynes, former Louisville detective Kelly Goodlett and sergeant Kyle Meany allege they violated Taylor's Fourth Amendment rights when they sought a warrant to search Taylor's home while knowing they lacked probable cause, and that they knew their affidavit supporting the warrant contained false and misleading information and omitted other material information, resulting in her death.

"Among other things, the affidavit falsely claimed that officers had verified that the target of the alleged drug trafficking operation had received packages at Ms. Taylor's address. In fact, defendants Jaynes and Goodlett knew that was not true," Garland said during a press conference.

Garland also alleged that Jaynes and Goodlett knew armed officers will be carrying out the raid at Taylor's home, and that conducting the search could create "a dangerous situation for anyone who happened to be in Ms. Taylor's home."
