I've played all four of the main games (all of them released in the US). I'd say 4 is the best, followed closely by 2, then 1, then 3. They're all good games. So far the series is (one of the few) that hasn't disappointed me, but I'm not to keen on Yakuza of the End.
I own the first two games. They're really fun. Wish there where more intricate combos though, other than "Square a couple times, triangle" for every single one. And i've never had as much fun exploring the environment; there's always something new to find in tokyo. Like the strip clubs.
Big fan of the series. I completed Yakuza 4 a while back, about a week after release in the U.S.
Personally, I like the simplistic combos. I mean, the games are a next-gen beat 'em up at their core. The combos became a bit more complex and unique, what with parrying and judo in 4.
I hope Ryu Ga Gotoku of The End gets released states-side, along with Kenzan!. But, asking for Kenzan is a bit of a pipe-dream at this point.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.I just dug out my copy of the first game and noticed it has the exact same cover art as the sequel. Well, okay, he's looking a bit farther over his shoulder in the second one. Seriously that the only◊ difference.◊
Anyone else see the love interest of the second game having zero chemistry with Kazuma?
i need to get these games.
Say, aren't these heavily Bowderlized?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Not that i've noticed, with every other word from some random thugs being an F-bomb. The third game apparently had some content excised because of time restraints though. Like the hostess clubs, which are essentially a prohibitively expensive dating minigame.
Not exactly. They really went overboard seasoning Yakuza 1 with the fuckshaker. Yet they kept all the 'Kazuma-chan~~~~' anime shit, it's incredibly annoying. I'm glad they went with jap voices + subs in 2+ and I hope they some day rerelease the first game with the original voice track, retranslated subs and upgraded Yakuza 4-caliber gameplay.
Yakuza 3 they cut/changed a lot of content, but not because of censorship: they were too lazy to translate a bunch of minigames that americans weren't going to play.

does anyone else have a lot of trouble in the first game with kazuma turning away from the enemies? its started to be less of a problem now that ive started to pay attention to the dodge button, but its still annoying to suddenly end up missing the enemy by about 180% and giving them enough time to kick my ass
That never happened to me. Are you sure you're playing right? XD

Jonah FalconOnly played part 2. The previous game summary was nice for those who didn't play 1.
How about that Thirty Xanatos Pileup at the end of the game? Had to make sure I wasn't playing MGS so I opened the PS 2 while it was still running.
Also. Fans shouldn't say the series is realistic when castles open up and other golden ones takes their places.

I never played any games from this series, but I did see portions of the games on You Tube.
Kazuma Kiryu sure seems like a Cosmic Plaything at times. Not that he will ever complain. He also has a Cartwright Curse attached to him, considering that his adoptive father, first love interest, his best friend turned rival, another friend, and two men who were willing to be his followers ended up as dead as doornails. All things considered, Haruka and Kaoru were lucky to be alive.
I thought it was sad that Kaoru and Kazuma did not get together. Then again, it was probably just as well, considering that she's a cop and he's a criminal, and those are two types that hardly ever mix.
Haruka sure is a cute girl, but it sure sucked that her own politician father was a Complete Monster who would have happily killed her given the chance.
Goro Majima...holy cow, that guy really stands out in the series! Wearing an eyepatch, and is arguably as crazy as The Joker! Good thing he mostly ends up on your side.
I'm willing to betcha that there's not a lot of games out there that would let you play as a Yakuza!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!Well I see he was voiced by Mark Hammill in the first game.

*Necro Bump* Hi! Question, dow anyone know if I can check my completion percentage in the third game? The option for that in the Menu doesn't cover the percentage you see after beating the game.
No love for Dead souls / Of The End?? I love Ryuji! Please make it canon!
What profit is it to a man, when he gains his money, but loses his internet? Anonymous 16:26 I believe...I think there's a thread for that game in particular. Looks amazing, though.
Here's to hoping for an English release...I don't think Sega has been doing so hot lately.
I'm sure it'll be released - Dead Souls got released here, after all.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Anyone else aside me pumped about the fifth entry in the series.
Here's a subbed trailer
Well, that certainly looks like it's not gonna be possible to admit Dead Souls being canon. But well, if all goes well I will forgive that loss. I really loved Dead Souls.... Hope 5 cities isn't gonna thin things too much

@Cassie
Dead Souls is crap. Yakuzas vs zombies
For shame at that premise >_<
The only absurdity of the Yakuza I liked was Yakuza going up against the C.I.A. or rather a syndicate
@Useless NINJA
The only realistic bit about the Yakuza series is how Yakuza are limited to picking from jobs such as running orphanage like what Kazuma does in Yakuza 3.
IMO
The Tojo clan is kinda similar to Yamaguchi-gumi yakuza. Both groups have codes of honor.

"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenIt's not like SEGA's gonna pull that off again anytime soon, but I take great offense from your comment.
