I actually read a fanfiction on Fan Fiction.net on Maleficent's supposed past recently, but I had no idea that a movie was in the works on the actual topic...crazy.

That said, I really wonder how the makers will flesh this out. The fanfiction I read was quite believable as a story (and different too; nothing like Wicked), so I sort of have expectations already, but I honestly have no idea how Disney will be able to turn someone into the mistress of evil that Maleficent is. The conflict of the story would have to be BIG.

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent? I express skepticism. >=(

This is still a signature.

Sounds like a really cool idea. I do hope that rather than going "Poor and Misunderstood Loner" they make it clear that Maleficent is a BLUH BLUH HUGE BITCH while still making her someone to cheer for (maybe have her bring down a "Heroic" Kingdom of stuffy do-gooders or something).

And if this movie is actually done, it'd probably lead to some interesting material for Kingdom Hearts...

I think the important thing to do, without making her "She's evil because no one understaaaaaands ;-;", is to make her charismatic or whatever term it is I'm looking for. While it won't make her any morally better, it'll make her tolerable enough to watch for a whole story, because she'll be entertaining. Though, plenty of people find her entertaining as it is, so it probably shouldn't be too hard.

If they display Maleficent's cause of being as Woman Scorned, I'll be watching this. Because otherwise, she wouldn't condemn Sleepyhead to.... well, eternal sleep, right?

Why can't they just adapt that already written Perspective Flip book about Queen Grimhilde and leave Maleficent alone?

I think this could be really good. Getting rid of Burton is probably an improvement. I just hope they do one thing:

KEEP. MALEFICENT. EVIL.

I don't really see why everybody likes Maleficent so much. I mean, she's got so much ham she doesn't leave room for motivation or (due largely to the clean-edged animation style) menace.

I think the ham is part of her charm.

The latest report is that David O. Russell is directing. Which probably means it will be The Fighter as a fantasy film (his Uncharted script was basically The Fighter as an action film).

I will ONLY be happy with this film if it includes the Oscar winning line:

"METEORS OF HEAVEN! UNLEASH THY FURY!"

Don't you know?

Production designer and visual effects artist Robert Stromberg will make his directorial debut with the film.

He previously worked on Avatar, Alice In Wonderland, the Pirates Of The Caribbean films and Sam Raimi's new Oz film.

So they're finally moving forward with it? Great. I'm a little wary of first-time directors, but at least it will most likely prove very pretty to look at.

Jolie has been confirmed for the role.

Eh, I'm not sure what to think. I may finally get around to watching Sleeping Beauty, though.

She could definitely pull it off, but I think that maybe we see too much of her to make an impact.

I've heard claims that Maleficent's pet raven is named Diablo. I don't know if that's true or not, but it's a Meaningful Name.

She was certainly a Card-Carrying Villain in Sleeping Beauty, and that whole film was pretty much her engaging in long-term Disproportionate Retribution. It would be interesting to see what she did before that! evil grin

Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!
