Terraria: If Minecraft and Metroidvanias had a baby

Well, there's no downside to having a minion (or two or three with a bewitching table/summoning potion), so it's just free extra damage at the end of the day. Always going to be good. Plus having them to deal with all the Goddamned Bats instead of having to fight them all yourself is very helpful.

The funny thing though is all the other classes can go without minions and be perfectly functional, but I wouldn't say the same is true for summoners with weapons from other classes. It's possible to beat the game as a pure summoner, yes, but it's a lot harder and definitely doesn't feel like the dev intended way to play.

Honestly it feels perfectly fine to play now, with the only kinda weird thing being when you're fighting lots of mobs, as you've either got to hold back on the whips or just deal with your mobs always focusing what you're focusing on.

Oh right, I forgot whips are a thing now. Not a huge fan of them, because they kind of feel like melee weapons they just slapped summon damage on.

I do kinda like them, but only because of the summon tag damage thing alongside being a way to redirect your familiars without sacrificing damage (my gripe earlier was exclusively with how you always HAD to redirect). And I don't really see there being a way to do the tag damage thing without applying it to some kind of weapon you use directly, so...

Whips also make some thematic sense for a summoner if one considers they're sort of beast masters in a way. I'm not sure what other weapon type they could really use without running into the same potential problem with seeming like it's crossing over with magic. I guess instead of killing the throwing archetype, they could have combined that with summoner. Huck stuff at targets, causing the summons to seek. A joke version of the weapon type could have been a tennis ball.

That would also make sense. Maybe someone will make a mod when TModLoader gets Journey's End support.

Speaking of things that'd be nice to have mods for, I feel like 1.4 missed a couple of opportunities:

• A major update would have been a really good time to add hallowed and evil versions of the Jungle. Snow and desert areas can be infected already, so why not? It'd also make cleanup less tedious, because the infected mud would still be mud.
• Thunderstorms are cool and have fantastic background music, but aside from lower visibility, they aren't very different from regular rain. It'd be nice to differentiate them more, maybe with powered-up versions of rain enemies or even a miniboss.

You know what the sad part is? The creator of this video probably invested more time and effort than those annoying mobile ads ever put out.

Terraria just got an update as part of a crossover with Don't Starve.

Some of these are technically only possible due to exploiting the logic of the housing system, but most (such as the bizarre placement of furniture or doors) was like that since day one.

There definitely is, to some extent at least. As seen when they nerfed the Reaver Shark for letting you skip the first few bosses. But there's also stuff that can be done at various points, like Duke Fishron or Empress of Light.

There's definite gear progression, as there are notable tiers of stats, and then bosses are expected to be done with certain tiers of gear. People who know what they're doing can easily bypass this, and it's pretty evident in speedruns (for instance, Eye and Slime King, the intended first tier of bosses, are often ignored there to go straight for Worm or Brain kills with Boulders/Dynamite; and WoF kills 30 mins in aren't uncommon for any%).

They shorthand it as chair and table, but it's really more comfort furniture and flat surface, so you can have a bathtub and a toilet and get someone to bunk in the bathroom :V

I also set up valid houses using sofa+bookshelf and chair+piano.

Related, what would be your pre-boss recommendation for making something look like a carpet?

They've added and changed so many things over the years that I can no longer give a decent suggestion, beyond taking advantage of painting tiles and careful angling of your blocks. Though I'd imagine wood blocks would probably closest resemble the fabric of a carpet being hung on a wall.

This dude managed to not only build a functional RISC-V computer inside of Terraria, but also get it to play Pong. The scale of the wiring required to make that small monitor work has to be seen to be believed.

EDIT: It's not an unmodded game unfortunately. Terraria has limits on how the wiring transmits signals over distances, and how much actions could be processed before crashing, so he had to build his own mod - Wirehead - in order to both improve the efficiency of the wire networks.
