Currently reading this for the first time although the scanslation seems kind of amatuerish as I'm pretty sure "my bad" wasn't really a said thing in the early 70s. That said some of the expressions are pretty funny and Ryo's constant IDGAF expression is classic. Ryo's pretty awesome so far.
I'm enjoying this a lot more than I expected to. The art takes getting used to due to the old school style + some serious Off-Model but some of the panels are really cool looking.
And lol @ Miki talking to her own ass. It's pretty funny too.

Miki is interesting in that you'd think she's a Tsundere at the beginning of the manga, but the moment Akira becomes one with amon and a devilman, she outright states that she's "A massive slut" for him in one of the ovas. Not sure if she said so in the manga or not.
Watch SymphogearShe didn't go THAT far but yeah she totally fell for the guy and was really coming on to him. I actually like her? She was rather spunky and not-too reserved for a shonen girlfriend trope type character.
Just started the Jinmen arc...one of my favorite characters haha.
Miki is actually rather unusual in that regard since she's almost like a sukeban. It's pretty refreshing when you consider most shounen Implied Love Interest characters are a lot more passive and frankly uninteresting for it.
That's exactly what I like about her,. And this woman was written in like early 1970s. That makes it even more impressive.
and wow Akira is breaking the 4th wall now. Something crazy is about to go down.
...And finished! That was quite a ride, and that ending was pretty depressing.
Now I'm watching the OV As but sadly I have to settle for the dub with the first two...that said they're pretty hilarious in their own right.
"You ever heard of DANTEE'S divine comedy?" The actors can't pronounce Dante right.
"Let's THE FUCK OUTTA HERE"
-spins around and shoots demon- SUCK ON THIS!!
Funnily the actual translation is pretty decent but the actors' delivery is so poor and the voices don't always fit the character too well, Devilman himself being a prime example.

Fun fact: Until Masaaki Yuasa's adaptation coming out next year, there has never actually been an adaptation of the manga's finale.
Watch SymphogearI think a live action movie did so
Oh that mythical thing? Surely you jest.
I saw a clip of Devilman(or rather Akira) in Shin/New Cutey Honey and it was actually pretty awesome. I always was under the impression Cutey Honey was some cheesy magica girl shoujo garbage by the name but I was proved so so very wrong from said clip. I then proceeded to watch the thing out of curiosity and it was actually really entertaining, with an actually pretty funny and well done dub(minus chokkei but he just sucks anyway). Sadly it's really short.
I always watched a single episode of DEBIRU man and OMG what they do to Devilman. He looks flat out corny with his derpy face and speedo and it's so cheesy, although kind of funny still. But MAN talk about watered down.
Yeah, the original Devilman anime is kind of eh. It's actually pretty incredible that it got made at all, considering what the source material is like. Weirdly, it was started before the original Mazinger Z and Cutey Honey anime series, but only by months to a single year.
I would have assumed Mazinger Z came first and the other two were made to capitalize on its popularity, but no, it was second out of the three.
I've seen parts of all three of those shows, and the one that aged best (when it comes to animation, none of them aged well in terms of characters) is, weirdly, Cutey Honey. Mostly because it isn't trying to be either a giant robot fight fest or a horror action series.
Not Three Laws compliant. So uh, just found Devilman Crybaby existed. PV is rather stylized, the title is gonna lead to a lot of jokes though.

If the PV is any indication this is going to have stellar animation.
That Key Visual looks like something out of Hellboy or whatever Mike Mignola would make.
Its excellent.
Watch SymphogearFresh from Netflix Japan's YouTube page:
So hyped for this. Think we'll get a dub too? An actual good one and not a So Bad, It's Good one?
Its always possible. Most netflix anime always have a Dub when they premier it in the west.
Watch SymphogearMost anime dubs these days are at worst just passable. With some luck we could, yes, actually get a good one.
This animation looks fantastic by the way, exactly what I would have expected from Yuasa. This is gonna be gr8
Netflix dubs tend to be pretty good. And even if there isn't a dub to begin with, one will probably come along later, like what happened with Kuromukuro.
Not Three Laws compliant.I hope they get Mikki right this time.
So far no anime adaptation has done her justice and she's always chick'd up really bad. Would be great if we got more of the risque-ballsy Mikki from the manga.
Original OVA Miki is just as Ballsy.
Watch SymphogearNew trailer. Jan 5th release, this looks SICK
Not a fan of Ryos new look but interesting it's being set modern day.
A modern day setting will allow them to update the "society is going to hell" bits to things the current generation will find relevant.
@Zeromaeus: This is way late because I never realized this thread existed till today but Demongodofchaos is right for the most part. Lucifers MTII design is inspired by Devilman.
I suppose a more accurate term would be took inspiration from. Looking back on it SMT has taken a lot of inspiration from the multiple Devilman series. Including the fact there are eight/nine throughout the franchise named Akira who fused or were born part demon. The first being fused literally with Amon himself.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Just got an email from Netflix, Devilman Crybaby will be out next Friday, January 5th.
Ehhhhhhh that might be a stretch. Lucifer didn't have the six winged look until Megami Tensei 2, and even then depicting Lucifer as an angel, fallen or otherwise, has been a relatively common motif since Paradise Lost was published way, way back when. I'd lean more that way if Megami Tensei's angel Lucy also had Devilman Satan's boobulas, but he doesn't.
