Luke's idea

What about a Meowth that produces iron coins? Shade has to get his metal somewhere.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

PMD-R

In the chat we decided that instead of a set shard number to collect, we'd simply collect X amount of shards until we decide that we're done with this arc, beginning the endgame.

In other news

Due to Fool's computer getting broken, she told us that she probably won't be RPing for at least a month.

Okay, so unfortunately, those numbers just aren't coming in fast enough. So I'm going to post the generic class strengths, to help inform the decision on which mons represent these characters. I'll bold anything I feel is pertinent to the stats.

I apologize if this post ends up being fairly long.

Note: "Resistance" is magical defence, i.e. Special Defence.

Note 2: If there's anything you want more information about: Information on the different promotions, individual characteristics, etc. don't be afraid to ask.

  • Krom: Riolu
    • Class: Lord
    • The title given to a fledgling royal. Fights using a sword. Promotes to Great Lord.
    • I picked the Riolu line for Krom because it seems main-character-y. Also, the colours are pretty close.
  • Liz: Riolu
    • Class: Cleric
    • Healers who aid allies with their healing staves. Cannot fight. Promotes to Battle Cleric or Sage.
    • Liz is Krom's sister, and so should be the same species as him. Luckily, one of her promotions, the Battle Cleric, gives her the ability to use Axes, of all things, making the Fighting-type applicable, upon evolution.
  • Frederick: Empoleon
    • Class: Great Knight
    • A sturdy armoured rider who can wield multiple weapon types.
    • Great Knights are promoted units, so Frederick should be finished evolving.
  • Soiree and Sol: Ponyta, and Deerling
    • Class: Cavalier
    • Horseback knights who wield swords and lances in combat. A well balanced class. Promotes to Paladin or Great Knight.
    • Soiree and Sol are a bit tricky, since they're members of a common Fire Emblem archetype: the red and green Cavaliers. One of them is better at attacking, and the other, at defending. I'm not sure which is which, but if I had to guess, I would say that Sol is the defender, and Soiree is the attacker.
  • Viole: Sneasel
    • Class: Archer
    • Bow-fighters who attack from a short distance away. Promotes to Sniper or Bow Knight.
    • Basically, the only reason I picked Sneasel for Viole, besides the aesthetics, is that Ice Shard reminds me of arrows.
  • Vake: Axew
    • Class: Fighter
    • Savages who fight with axes and dish out mighty blows with their high strength. Promotes to Warrior or Hero.
    • Haxorus has an axe in its face. That's pretty much the only reason I have Vake set as an Axew right now.
  • Miriel: Misdreavus
    • Class: Mage
    • Magic tome wielders who fare well against armoured foes. Promotes to Sage or Dark Knight.
    • DAT HAT. Unfortunately, none of Miriel's classes is actually able to use Dark Magic, so she'll probably need a lot of TMs if she stays a Misdreavus.
  • Sumia: Swablu
    • Class: Pegasus Knight
    • Knights who soar the skies astride a pegasus. Strong against magic, but weak against bows. Promotes to Falcon Knight or Dark Pegasus.
    • Basically, whatever Sumia ends up being needs to be able to fly.
  • Callum: Geodude
    • Class: Knight
    • Knights encased in heavy armour. Has high defence, but is weak against magic. Promotes to Great Knight or General.
    • This one should be obvious.
  • Donny: Tyrogue
    • Class: Villager
    • A common villager. Very weak, but perhaps has potential...
    • The Villager class is all about potential, so I went with Tyrogue for having the ability to become one of several strong fighters.
  • Ronku: Scyther
    • Class: Myrmidon
    • Warriors who specialise in the blade. They overcome enemies with their swift movements. Promotes to Swordmaster or Assassin.
    • Scyther has blades...that's about it.
  • Velvet: Nidqueen
    • Class: Taguel
    • A warrior who shifts into a rabbit beast to attack. Powerful when shifted, harmless otherwise.
    • I'm not a huge fan of Lopunny for Velvet, but whatever she is, it needs to be sufficiently rabbit-like, and fully evolved. Taguel don't promote.
  • Anna: Charmeleon
    • Class: Trickster
    • A glamorous and elusive phantom thief. Wields staves in addition to swords.
    • Anna is basically the mascot of Fire Emblem, appearing in every game except the second, although only physically appearing in the story once or twice. This is her very first playable appearance, so I wanted something special. Tricksters are fully promoted, but Charmeleon reminds me of her more than Charizard does, so she'll start there, unless something better is found.
  • Tiki: Flygon
    • Class: Manakete
    • A fabled race said to be able to take dragon form. Powerful when shifted, harmless otherwise.
    • Again, she just needs to be a Dragon-type, and I believe someone noted that she kind of looks like a Flygon.

Again, if you want to know more (like how well/poorly classes do in other stats), just ask.

At Wolf

That someone who pointed out Tiki's resemblance to Flygon was me. ;)

On a more serious note, those all look like they correspond really well.

EDIT: Then again, I'd go with a Nidoqueen for Velvet, an Altaria for Sumia, and Honchkrow for Miriel. Those correspond with their apparent strengths and weaknesses more.

Some Return To AU details

OK, Pent gave me some details on how the Dragons are organised for PMD-B and Return to AU. They're lead by the leaders of seven maijor clans...

List of tribes ([X] is a dragon-related noun):

Diamond [X]

Emerald Scale (Slateport, Transformed!AU!Pent leads this one)

Lapis Fang (Unova, originally led by a Hydregion with prophetic hands)

Topaz [X]

Opal [X]

Ruby [X]

Amethyst [X]

We've worked out five positions. The first two are the ones on the list. The Diamond and Ruby ones are led by a Garchomp and a Flygon I've planned, respectively. As for the Topaz, and the overall leader, it's kinda spoilery...

It's AU!Alduin.

Let's just say it's always the ones you least expect. >:3

Chatting has led to more thoughts on PMD-B Johto's political divisions:

  • Ecruteak is likely an independent city, due to heavy Legendary presence; only an idiot dares attack it, and they get a Sacred Fire for their trouble.
  • Murkrow (and perhaps Pidove evos) control Goldenrod, likely.
  • Bluescale Swamp is a distinct entity, that probably had a few jingoistic hero-complex expansions in the past, but is fairly quiet now.
  • Blackthorn is an isolated Dragon Den that for understandable reasons keep to themselves anymore.
  • In general, the region is stabilized by the economic influence of the Firuzland fossil empire.

Wider-scale Johto spheres of influence, aside from previously-mentioned city-states:

  • Eastern Johto is possibly under the control of the "Indigo League", a Kanto-based power with a classic name.
  • The Nidos control the Goldenrod-Ecruteak-Violet triangle.
  • Azalea, I don't even know; I actually am not so sure why we'd see Tropii there anyways...
  • A crescent arcing from Olivine to the Lake of Rage to Mahogany to Violet down to the Mareep Fields is controlled by a state that me and Tracer have dubbed "the Miltank Legion".
    • in fact, this state grows out of Icelus's efforts, and is quite varied in population. Though "farm mons" like Miltank, Mareep, and perhaps Ponyta are larger groups.
    • given its founder, the state is known for cultivating charismatic leaders, and tends to be perhaps a bit celebrity-obsessed (as well as having a strong Berry economy). Fortunately, though the politics tend to be rather juvenile, they do have a strong cultural value of rule of law that serves as a remnant of humons.
    • the actual name may be "Animal Farm", devised by somemon who completely missed the point of the book. (Fortunately not prophetic) tongue

Also, had ideas for a sport that may replace Pokémon battles in PMD-B; mixing classic battles with Pro-Bending and Chess.

  • (the game varies a lot by region, so ambiguities below should be understood to be representing a variety of local game rules)
  • Teams consist of 7 mons; one is designated the Captain, King, or (rarely) Trainer.
  • Between 2 and all 7 mons are on-field at once; the King should always be on-field.
  • All on the field battle, typically with the King coordinating strategy.
  • When the King is knocked out, his/her team loses.
    • Some variations make it a foul to attack the King if other team members are still able to fight, and others simply require a full-team knockout for victory. But the knock-King-out rule is commonly considered to make for the most interesting and strategic games, as well as being faster.

I was thinking that if they're supposed to be direct opposites, then they ought to be armbanded or otherwise acquire the ability to communicate with Pokemon.

At Tagg

All I can really say is that it would be appropriate.

Moar Rt AU stuff.

On Silent's concern on how the Dragon leaders would be punished at the end of the arc, we came up with potential punishments for the three I control.

AU!Alduin: Although he's the overall leader, I plan on him somehow changing to his OU personality near the very end of the arc, which makes punishing him somewhat tricky - he's nowhere near as much of a threat, and MUCH nicer, but he still did horrible things. The current idea is to have him be physically handicapped from going anywhere near any place sacred to the Legendaries - within a mile or so of sacred ground he starts feeling pain, which grows more intense the closer he gets. Tagg describes it as "a permanent separation from the gods", which is fitting for someone who tried to usurp their role. However, it may be too light for the overall leader, even if he's no longer "evil", so I want to see what others think.

Seshirou (Garchomp) and Fuuma (Flygon): I had very specific plans for these two to make it to the OU for something, and Silent came up with a punishment that's PERFECT for those plans. Basically, they get banished to the OU, and slapped with a modified version of The Vow - It entails that they HAVE to be caught, and they can't ask for freedom or have breeding rights in the wild, meaning they're subject to the whims of their Trainer(s) for the rest of their days and can never be "free" 'mons ever again. And outliving their Trainers will be out of the question, considering it's Umbra and Lina who will catch them. I like this one a lot, but would still like feedback on it.

As for the ones not under my control... Well, we need to fill some of those slots first. I know Tracer wanted to do a Dr. Nefarious expy. Preferably, the remaining slots are filled by species other than Garchomp, Flygon, and Hydregion, all of which are already covered by me or Pent.

Here be Dragons

AU!Alduin: That sounds fine to me, personally. That...and I can't come up with anything better myself right now.

Seshirou and Fuuma: This sounds good to me too.

If you're looking for an alternative punishment for the other Dragons, may I suggest locking them in some sort of special PC BOX on a singular server deep within the PEFE HQ or some other high security location? It would be like a regular PC box, they just wouldn't be able to be withdrawn without special permission, and it would be disconnected from the main storage network so it couldn't be hacked into to allow them to escape.

As for how the above two dragons escape, perhaps they become frinds with a PEF Egon who breaks them out or something. I dunno.

Note that none of these musings are set in stone, they are merely ideas to be bounced around and get feedback on:

Musings On the Political Order of Different Regions of PMD-B

Johto

  • What Tangent said a couple posts earlier
  • In addition, what WAS once the Johto Safari Zone and Cianwood may or may not be under the outright control of a certain fossil empire to the west.

Kanto

  • The region is theoretically mostly unified under the 'Indigo League', a descendant of Kanto's former pre-revolt government.
    • Rule is firm in settlements, but not particularly strong in "frontier" areas. So problems with bandits and highwaymen are a thing in some parts.
    • They are not particularly fond of dragons, though given the presence of dragons on the Indigo Plateau, may have a begrudging acceptance of draconic mons in their society.
  • Other clearcut factions include Kanto's various Cubone tribes, which control the mountains between Lavender and Cerulean as well as in the general vicinity of Kanto Victory Road.
    • Have likely developed a tradition of integrating non-'bones via 'Fiend Clans' since the Draconic Revolt.
  • Viridian Nidoran Colony may or may not also be a distinct political entity, if not nearly as powerful as their Johto counterparts.

Hoenn

  • Is likely the most politically unified region in PMD-B, its government being a more complete successor to its pre-revolt government.
  • Draconic mons are seen as equals amongst other mons here. Hoenn's history and general lack of pain during the revolt (so expect to see some better preserved human architecture) kinda helped with that.
  • Is seen as a vestigial remnant of the Draconic Empire by most outsiders. Unsurprisingly, PMD-B Hoenn doesn't have many diplomatic ties with the outside world.
    • There is an internal distrust of outsiders in Hoenn, especially towards outsider draconic mons.

Sinnoh

  • It is a collection of singular settlements... And a bunch of wildness. It's more or less what 'Life After Man' would look like with a couple odd towns interspersed in it.
  • The Sinnoh 'bones' grounds are likely abandoned. The mons that would KNOW about the importance of the site are kinda all either A): Dead. B): Living in exile on a remote island.

Unova

  • Is another one of those politically fractious regions again, factions include:
    • An extension of Dragonspiral Tower that has grown to absorb what was once Icirrus.
    • Celestia's Kingdom, now under the leadership of a legendary mercenary honey-loving king. May or may not have had a northward expansion into what was once Nimbasa.
    • Opelucid + Unova Victory Road - A Blackthorn-esque faction that mostly keeps to itself. May or may not be more ready to interact with the Icirrus faction next door.
    • Freeport Castellia: Exactly what it says on the tin. It is what's left of Castellia... As a trading-based city-state.
    • Descendant of Unovan Transitional Government
      • These guys run everything else. May or may not have split into 2 factions depending on whether or not a certain fire moth now runs Nimbasa (and consequently cut off geographic contiguity).

Other

  • Angela:
    • Is more or less as California was in the original Fallout, so maybe a baby step above Somalia for most of the last 20 years, if that.
  • Firuzland:
    • Is ruled by an Evil(-ish) Empire. Not wholly without its benefits though, as they're the main stabilizing force in Johto thanks to trade.
  • PEFE-B:
    • A ruined maze of concrete and steel dwelt in by the descendants of some Sinnoh 'bones, PEFE mons, and possibly those of a group of exiles from the Dragon's Den in Johto and some captured draconic grunts.
    • Don't taunt the oversized Oshawott there. They hit hard.

Thoughts? Critiques? Commentaries? Suggestions for things to modify / add?

There is one detail that I forgot to tell Umbra, in the path of Return To AU that leads to PMD-B, AU!Pent either does not defect to the side of humans or is forced into rejoining the dragons. Which directly leads to how AU!Pent is still alive as Parthunaax!Pent despite the length of time between Return to AU and PMD-B.

It involves a minor divine punishment, Celebi and a prophesy.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.
