Did you know this section has a character limit?

I'm pretty sure that's a later episode actually. I think it's during Sister's rant at Tucker's ruining her trip, after their meeting with Atlas.

FOUND IT.

End of episode 11, ha-hah! Don't know how I missed it.

Hrh-hrm. Dang, this season's already over.

Say, does anyone feel Sarge has regressed and flanderized a bit? Not just recently, but for a while now? He was a bit less stupid and forced up until the Freelancer Saga, and I feel like he's just become a tired joke since. I miss the development he got in Revelation.

Now that you mention it, yeah it kind of does. I suspect he could be the next character to gain some perspective and character development, like Church, Washington, Locus, Felix, Tucker, Grif, and Sister before him.

That said, it's amusing how Doc has literally regressed to his O'Malley persona.

Episode 15 has been released to the public.

Yes, this is the season finale. The group fucks up time and reboots the universe. They are now left in the same state they were in early Season 1, but something is wrong with Church. That's not him.

At first I thought we were about to witness a Multiverse being formed, but it's actually a soft continuity reboot... hmm. Well I thought they'd said all they wanted to say with this idea after Church went through the memory unit. Interesting to see where this goes. I suppose the RVB wiki is going to have to update again and make a third entry for these versions of the characters.

[up] Yeah I noticed that. Wonder what that's about. Even though they might be re-using Church again that little voice change is interesting. What does Church even have to do with the Shisno Paradox? note  note 2  If all that changed was Wash not being shot then I would think it'd just reset things to after they defeated Temple. Instead it's retconned everything. Goddang time travel.

So the timeline shakes out to be this

  • The Reds and Blues screwed up time
  • They left it that way and didn't fix a thing
  • They tried to save Wash
  • By preventing Wash's injury the Reds and Blues would have stomped Temple and his crew
  • Saving Wash means Donut never gets zapped and Season 16 never happened
  • To rectify all of this the timeline just... hit F5 and now we're back in Season 1?

    Lingering questions

  • Grif was the only one to figure it out from the god-AI thing that killed Higgins - but Carolina and Simmons seemed to be on the verge of realizing they were about to be Ret-Gone as well?
  • So does the soft reboot mean that Donut's benefactor had his plans thwarted?
  • Why was O'Malley involved in this?
  • How on earth did Donut time that grenade-toss so well?
  • Does Locus' message that Grif ignored factor into this at all?
  • ...did the Reds and Blue get a competency upgrade all of a sudden? They actually seemed to be on the same page for the first 6-10 minutes. Yeah the show's built towards that but, as was just discussed, it's felt like certain characters were regressing, Sarge chief among them.

The way I figure, changing whether or not Wash gets shot was just the proverbial straw on the time-travelling camel's back. One too many different things, and all of reality came down at once. Still, I thought Grif was going to end up shooting Wash. Oh well.

I don't think this is the end, though. I think we're up for a "new iteration with something weird going on that gets fixed because people notice the strangeness" like in Season 9, but with all of the Blood Gulch Crew. Flip the situation with Church on it's head. Especially since that guy is clearly not Church anyways.

O'Malley was weird this episode. Not that he was there or how he was acting, but why. Last we saw him he just left, and now he just suddenly pops back again to take part in the final battle? It's weird. I guess they needed someone for Donut to fight with, but O'Malley felt a bit too disconnected to things.

As usual, the writing on Red Vs Blue is weird, but good. The confrontation between Grif and Former Golfclub Guy (Now Butt World Guy) was really well done. Here's hoping next season closes this story well.

EDIT: Went back and rewatched something. Was Sister about to tell Tucker she loved him? Holy Sega Genesis, I hope not. That would be the least earned thing in all of Red Vs Blue.

I think they got some decent chemistry going this season, though, so I don't think it's terribly far-fetched. Is it deserved? Oh hell no, Tucker's still a bit of a dick when it comes to rejection, and Sister's an unapologetic slut. But at least it's better than Tucker being ONLY a Casanova Wannabe with a cool sword, a kid, and sudden badassery in the finale, and Sister's just there for shock value.

Honestly they've been my favorite pairi... grouping of characters this season, perhaps in the entire show. I'm glad they brought Sister back for this.

  • Epsilon and Tex in the Memory Unit
  • Grif - it occurs to me that we never got any closure to this between Sarge and Grif.
  • Biff - surprise, surprise
  • Carolina reviews York's journal
  • Church yelling at evertyone
  • CT
  • Loco's death
  • The Director
  • Epsilon

The part with Epsilon shifting through his different fragments gets to me.

You know I've heard it said that Season 13 was a bad cliff hanger that Jumped the Shark and, thinking on it, maybe it should have been the series finale. Every major character was there in some way, shape, or form - and it was the most heroic that the Reds and Blues have been throughout this franchise. Church's words cut deep, making you think back to all of his adventures and how he and the others have grown as characters. Thirteen seasons of plot and character development, however ridiculous or inane, gets drawn upon in a five-minute scene.

Felix and Locus were effectively dealt with. There weren't any dangling plot threads AFAIK. Chorus might be free thanks to the Reds and Blues and it might not be. Maybe they all died. Maybe they all lived. But Church's point, about heroes never making it to see if their last-ditch efforts ever meant anything, would really be driven home. Imagine if Red vs Blue had ended on that shattered glass visual and the line, "Ain't that a bitch."

Then you could just spin the series off into an anthology thing with Felix, Locus, and anybody else we want to focus on. Heck, you could still do Season 15's plot just without spoiling the fate of the Red's and Blues, heck, maybe start the series centuries afterward. Dylan and Jax would be the perfect duo to transition the plot from the R's and B's. They embody Red vs Blue's tried-and-true formula - a competent person (Dylan/Church) accompanied, or surrounded by a group of incompetent people (Jax/Reds-Blues) and forced to deal with

From there a whole different series could have launched, what with Dylan being invested in finding the truth, visiting other planets, following up on the events of Chorus loosely (so far in the future that whether the R-B's survived and the day was saved or not is no longer relevant). Dylan has enough mystery and character about her (a job that she nearly lost, a husband she's made efforts not to speak to) to gather a similarly zany group of protagonists around her, like Church. Jax was initially Caboose 2.0 anyway.

Plus, let's be frank, it's getting a bit stale. Or at least really don't know what more they can do with certain characters like Caboose and Sarge. Season 13 seemed like the pinnacle of their character development - Caboose's murderous tendencies finally gets channeled into Freckles, and Sarge gets to spout off his catchphrase while standing side-by-side with allies he once called enemies.

I mean, I like Seasons 15 and 16 but... they missed a perfectly good spin-off opportunity there.

Maybe that's why 15, 16, and 17 are happening. To shrek the timeline and give everything a clean slate.

Oh yeah. We might actually get Season 1 Caboose back.

Crap. I was excited about getting a sane!intelligent!Caboose for awhile there, but I rewatched Season 1 and... Caboose was kind of terrible prior to O'Malley.

I just wanted them to go in a completely different direction for Season 15 and bring back the AI characters which they were perfectly setting themselves up to since they had Epsilon dissolving into the fragments again.

He didn't fragment himself like Alpha did, because he's not a full AI that could be able to do that. Season 12 made clear he just makes these recreations of the other fragments to have someone to talk to (like he used the capture unit to make versions of the Reds and Blues). Epsilon was just symbolically "splitting" himself to handle all the add-ons of the Meta suit, and when the battle was over he self-destructed due to all the effort.

That being said, some people argue there is one unaccounted fragment... Yellow Church (of course there's the contradiction on whether he first appeared after torture by Gamma just like in the old days, or by being expelled from Caboose's mind, but that's a detail).

If I had to rank them personally...

8, 13, 12, 10, 9, 6, 11, 14, 15, 16, 5, 4, 7, 3, 2, 1.

As you can see, I prefer the seasons where stuff happens to the ones where it's more standing there and talking ("That's what they were doing last week, that's what they were doing five minutes ago!").

I remember when it was just a bunch of guys in a boxed canyon in the middle of nowhere, just yelling at each other. Shit's gotten weird.

I suppose that's what happens when your show runs past five or six seasons. The premises change, new characters make things different, and so on and so on.
