The Trash Heap doesn't ostensibly have any topics to subdivide by, though, does it?

Man. All this just because I half-seriously ran with a joke by blackcat.

Parable: Six hours ago, so was COB.

So lemme get this straight, if I go make six more Trash Heaps with different media themes, I can get my own subforum? Well gee, I guess I should go do that, then!

I'm sure I don't need to point out the problem, here.

So I see you have been lurking the Heap too, eh Spain?

Actually, it does. Aside from the few running "continuities" (YOUR KING and his child, AU owning ABC, Charlotte, etc.) there are certain topics that come up sometimes, like childhood memories, cartoons, manchildish-ness, nostalgia, etc.

The Trash Heap has not been affected and there is no FORMAL process for COB-dom. This means that you can come into COB Land all you like and we'll let you know if you need to shape up.

While time will tell if things work out or go bad, I think this arrangement is acceptable for now.

But I don't want to be part of COB-dom. I merely want an analogous alternative for those who prefer the opposite.

Yes, but here's the problem.

What constitutes "needing shaping up"? The first time someone mentions an unpopular opinion and gets jumped on, does that person need to shape up? First time someone mentioned sex? First time someone gets off topic?

Again, obvious problem. It lends itself to easy exclusivity.

What is wrong with the threads we have now?

EnglishIvy Since: Aug, 2011

I like the new anime thread, at the very least, since it's free of the usual things that keep new folks away from the medium.

Nothing is wrong with the threads we have now. But if I decided to separate the topics by making threads like "The Trash Heapers discuss cartoons", the threads would be locked and we'd be directed to Western Animation.

@Spain: Dude, remember? The policy here is "don't yell". So I think that as long as you aren't either yelling or acting like a dick it's all good.

^Oh, well that's crystal clear. -__-

What I'm doing now could easily be construed as acting like a dick depending on how you read my posts. And that's not something I have control over, intended tone only goes so far online.

Ivy: and that's great. It really is. I'm not saying that there's anything inherently wrong with this subforum. Just that it has a lot of potential for exclusivity, and I think there should be an opposite analogue for those who want it.

What is wrong with the threads we have now?

What was wrong with the one COB thread?

@Spain: We needed to do something about periodic anime derails in the original COB thread. All of this around us is the result of me and blackcat improvising a solution.

And if it makes you feel better, if you get in trouble for supposed dickitude with these posts, I'll defend you as your concerns are legit enough.

Thing is, FE started the prodigical COB thread. I suppose if he was the one who made this subforum, it would kinda make sense.

^That, and Charlatan also decided to do one for Video Games just in case.

Yeah?

Did you miss the thing about the derails in the Trash Heap? Let's say I decide to improvise a solution about the cartoon derails.

Is that okay? Can I go do that?

@Spain: I thought the point of Trash Heap was that it was essentially only as on-topic as people want it to be.

I don't object to this subforum's existence, even if I find it unncessary (these threads would have worked fine in YF, after all)—but I don't see why "we have a subforum specficially for mature discussion, can we have one specifically for silliness as well?" is such an unreasonable request.

Sure, silly threads can exist in the rest of the forum, but so can mature ones (as evidenced by the success of the original COB thread). Why does one need a subforum and the other doesn't?

Also: Charlie, could you define the term "yelling" as used in the context of online posts?

@Spain: Blame AU and CA for that meme.

In mu opinion, they claim to be the only ones who still post there regularly, so drawing more people into that thread might change things.

Ivy: For one, I'm not really that upset, and for two, I'll calm down when you people actually listen to me.

Okay, you want a little confession? This runs just a tad deeper for me than this particular issue. I'm kinda tired of everyone a few years older than me brushing off everything I say. I'm making good points, I'm arguing completely solidly, and no one even seems to be considering my viewpoint.

I can understand where you guys are coming from, I really can. I hung out in the COB thread for a very long time when the rest of the forum got a bit too wild for me. And I can understand wanting some enclosure from all that. On the other hand, you can't just post wackiness everywhere, and some people, myself included, would like to be able to do that, cuz it's fun. Do we need some grander reason? I really don't think our request is unreasonable.

At the same time, I really care about this. If I didn't, I wouldn't be up at 2AM arguing about it.

I AM listening. I just don't see the point of what you're asking for when what you already have would suit your purposes of clowning around.

Why does this subfora need a silly-side counterpart? It seems less like a pragmatic solution and more like meeting a quota.
