A continuously ongoing story kind of inevitably means leaving behind old plot elements and certain characters being left by the wayside unless the writers actually bother to properly incorporate them.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. It's a shame that Last Story was omitted from the Sonic series from Sonic Colours onwards. And while the portable games (i.e The Advance Trilogy and the Rush Duology) did use a similar concept, they had the additional bonus of tying in the classical method of the Chaos Emeralds unlocking an true final boss like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
"Punishment is not the answer. Punishment is easy. It's lazy. Redemption is hard. Redemption makes you work."-Skulduggery Pleasanttbf you legit can't have a Final Story if you... don't have multiple stories. Unleashed lacked a Last Story as well for the exact same reason. It's more symptomatic of there only being 1 story campaign rather than being directly caused by the change in direction (though it definitely came about because of that previously mentioned change in direction).
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniWell there's only one story campaign nowadays because Sega nixed multiple character campaigns after 06.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.It is weird Forces didn't have one, considering it had three playable characters.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.My issue with the whole last story parts were getting the Chaos Emeralds.
THE SPECIAL STAGES.
No shade to anyone who like them, and I don't hate Heroes (though me sucking at the game has led me a teeny bit bitter), but some of those Special Stages are way, way to difficult to achieve, and Sonic Generations 3DS is the only game where I thought they were actually fair and fun to play.
Its hard not to imagine why given said playable characters were; An OC with no dialogue whatsoever, and Classic Sonic...who also has no dialogue and may as well not even be there for all he contributes.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.To be fair to the former, its rare to have a game that gives a customizable avatar voice-lines. Even MMO's don't always have such accommodations despite the presence of one being core to the genre.

Fire Emblem is right there.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Don't people have a hate boner for Byleth and Corrin so hard, they have to go to the doctor for erection dysfunction?
And unlike the Xenoverse avatars, Buddy has a simple personality, but a personality none the less.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. And yet, the female variants have so much fan art.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.x3 Real problem is FE wants to warp their stories and other characters around these avatars despite the story and other characters.
At least the Rookie was integrated well and didn’t overshadow Sonic.

A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.5x counterpoint: Heroes has Kiran be a Silent Protagonist
This. It's only really Classic Sonic that is kind of awkwardly in, and it only works because of the Phantom Ruby. Not necessarily well, but the story is kind of preset. You'd have to change a lot just to take out Classic Sonic and the Phantom Ruby at that point(though it'd be better if Tails played the Classic style, imo). Regardless, the story is one of those cases that's hard to change anyway. Not that it shouldn't be, heh.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.Classic was only in Forces in order to tie Mania into it.
EDIT: Okay, it was mostly because they saw how popular Generations is and thought that people liked it because it had Classic in it.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Classic Sonic doesn't even join the main crew until after 3 out of 6 levels and his one boss, and his three levels after that are grabbing intel at the Chemical Plant alongside Tails, destroying the Death Egg (the same Death Egg that hadn't been visited since the rescue of Modern Sonic way back when), and a filler level right after beating Infinite.
The only consequence of removing Classic Sonic from the story that can't be easily fixed is that Tails no longer has anything to do - but let's be real Tails should've always been more involved to begin with.

Tails more or less just being what was Classic Sonic in that game would also have been a good idea.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain....
IMO, Tails getting a blaster like Gamma or his own Sonic Battle incarnation, and combining his 2 different gameplay approaches in 3D, would have worked wonders.
Hell, he fights with lasers in the movie.
The Avatar is unironically the best part of Sonic Forces, I don't think he needed to be replaced with Tails.
I just think that everyone not named (Modern) Sonic, Rookie, Infinite, or Eggman was suffering from an absolutely major issue of not doing shit. Including playable characters like (Classic) Sonic and Shadow (even if technically he was only playable via dlc).
Which really makes you wonder how they even conceptualised this game as a worldwide war with a serious story if only 4 characters are able to provide any meaningful role into the narrative anyways.

But like in your Sonic Channel stories, Silver is still competent. What a Creator's Pet.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.IDW at least came up with a good reason why Silver shows up, and they give the guy actual development with the new characters to make that work.
"No will to break."Says a lot that no one at Sonic Team can write a good reason for Silver to keep showing up.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back."The future he came from got erased out of existance by his actions, and thus he is stuck in the present".
There ya go. No issue with him being competent either.
But oh well, bracing for Tomodachi calling me fanboy or something like that.
You can have a strict status quo and still have a focus on story. SA 1, SA 2, St H, 06 all tried to push what this series could do in story telling, and even Heroes made sure to feature a background plot that gets its own focus in a dedicated Last Story.
As an aside, I'd agree with Pariah's 06 reviews in that 06 is less an Adventure 3 and moreso an attempted culmination of everything that Sonic was at that time, and the only major obstacle at succeeding at that goal being the rushed development.
