The second seems to be a subset of the first and has some of the same examples (like the tutor named Tutor in Wizards Of Waverly Place). It also seems to be a subset of the third, with respect to non-superhero examples.

We could fix the third by moving the non-superhero examples, but you'd then have two tropes which are the same except one is about superheroes, which is also questionable.

The second being a subset of the first is fine. It's what we call a subtrope. As for tropes overlapping, also, not an issue.

Unless I'm missing something, aren't these just a gaggle of subtropes?

[up] Yes. They're all subtropes of Meaningful Name. I'm really not getting what the problem is.

Okay, let's put it another way: they're not subtropes, because there's no meaningful subdivision. Prophetic Name is about someone whose name is related to their traits. His Name Really Is Barkeep is about someone whose name matches his job. Steven Ulysses Perhero is about someone whose name matches his superhero identity. I suppose those are definitions, but they don't seem to be very meaningful and smell more like someone just created them independently and didn't know about the others. They are also full of bad examples because they're all treated as the supertrope.

If you're going to intentionally try and define the tropes as broadly as possible to try to make them look similar, I don't know why you want help.

It's not my definition, it's my observation: that's how they seem to already be defined. And usage is worse—even with those definitions they shouldn't overlap, but they're used that way.

The problem with His Name Really Is "Barkeep" is that it's not wicked anywhere. It's got like five wiks, with a dozen or so examples. That says "mislaunched" to me. I've got no issues merging that one.

The problem with Steven Ulysses Perhero is that it's got a non-indicative name, namely it has nothing to do with powersets, so it just sounds like a Hero with a heroic name and villains with a villainous name. That trope could do with a rename and a good scrub down, but seems different.

I've got no idea what's up with Prophetic Name. It feels like it's different from Meaningful Name, but it doesn't look that way. My instinct is to separate out something that started out normal, got the name and then changed to fit it into Prophetic Name and leave anything else in Meaningful Name.

His Name Really Is "Barkeep" has plenty of examples (26 — over two dozen, not "a dozen or so"). It just needs to be crosswicked to those works pages.

I guestimate weird, a "dozen or so" means "a couple of dozen" to me rather than 12+/-3.
