Simply Awesome Anachronistic Apparel is basically Gorgeous Period Dress in the wrong period.

Yet it attaches itself to Disco Dan ("done well" vs "done poorly" kind of way) which is more about the mentality of the character while Awesome Anachronistic Apparel is just about the outfit.

The Real Life examples are bigger than the actual trope, and we can really remove the word Awesome from it.

As the one who suggested this, I believe that several things need to be done with Awesome Anachronistic Apparel.

  • Remove "Awesome" from the name. It does nothing for the trope except to make it look subjective when it is not.
  • Clean up/prune the Real Life section. It shouldn't have more examples than all the fictional ones combined.
  • Clearly distinguish that it's about the clothes being anachronistic, while Disco Dan is about the mannerisms.

Um, Disco Dan includes clothes, or at least allows it.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

[up] It includes clothes, but clothes alone don't make a Disco Dan. They're only one element of a larger character type, and they aren't required.

[up][up] Disco Dan is the whole thing they are literally lost in the era while Awesome Anachronistic Apparel simply wearing the Gorgeous Period Dress (or the male equivalent) in the wrong era but doesn't cover anything about their personality.

Biggest example I can think of is Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei who wears early 20th Century specific and seasonally appropriate Kimonos while in the current era. (his attitude and such is far to... ummm unique to be based on any era.)
