After a few hours of rehearsing, the two journalists stop and take a break for Gingerale.

Upton: Not gonna lie, you're getting pretty good at this.

Tommy: Hehe. You're funny.

Upton: Oh, not gonna blame you for that.

Tommy: Seriously, though, I can like with some degree of accuracy on whether you're lying or not. It's an auric spectrum thing. I wasn't good at it at first, but I can do that now. And read minds to some degree. I can't do full telekinesis, though. You'd have to be a really strong psychic to do that. How'd you know how to be a singing coach though.

Upton: Would you believe me if I told you?

Tommy: I'll know if you're lying.

Upton: Okay, so back in my Home Universe, we had music nights at the resistance cell I belonged to. We'd sing old show tunes, do karaoke, and act out musicals to keep morale up. I ended up participating a lot in my teens and picked up a few things from my superiors. Hence why I can voice coach now.

Tommy: Fascinating.

Upton: Sometimes me and Phineas would act out cheesy scenes from his favorite musicals to help me calm down when I'm in a lot of stress. Usually Spamalot. And believe me, that had a lot of mileage just from the previous assignment.

Tommy: Ah, geez, what exactly happened down there at Mr. Grant's house?

Upton: Yeah, I don't think your old friend likes me very much. But would you believe me if I told you that there's more to his new house than just creepy ghost lore and old furniture?

Tommy: Try me.

Tommy gulps down the Gingerale as Upton prepares to recall exactly what happened at Paige Manor.

A big silly grin grows on Fuka's face.

Fuka: Milo Dynamaxed his Eldegloss when he fought Will. He, however, (playfully pokes Will's cheek) hasn't yet. He did, however, let me borrow his Dynamax watch to Dynamax my Pokemon in the wild area.

Wild Area, South of Motostoke, One Week Prior

From one of the Pokemon dens comes a flash of light, followed by a Gyarados growing into truly monumental size. It, in turn, is followed by a squeal of delight so loud and high pitched that every Pokemon within a hundred yards flees the area.

Fuka: My Gyari was so precious...

Fuka stares into space, caught up in the... adorable memory.

Puri (flattens her ears against her head and puffs up in irritation): <I still hear that scream when I close my ears.>

Me: Well, Kim's Scorbunny, Elton, actually evolved WHILE Dynamaxed! It was quite a sight to see!

Halis hears the charge-up of the impending Flash Cannon, quickly getting back up and jumping out of the way of it.

Halis: <Again, I don't know what you're talking about, but if you're trying to kickstart your idol career you might wanna look into something else 'cause honestly, you have no grace or subtlety whatsoever!>

Fuka says nothing but her giggling becomes faster and higher pitched. Puri buries her face into Will's hair. Sami tries to console her but backs off, shaking her head and rolling her eyes, when Puri bats her claw away.

Will: I... I wasn't watching the fight.

Suzie (with a touch of baby talk in her voice): Aw, was someone feeling nervous before his battle?

Will (blushing): I was herding Wooloo! Even if I wasn't, why would I watch an opponent before I got to fight her? It'd be boring to know what she could do before then!

Mercury hides away with a dig, leaving Rage and Love to throw himself onto the ground to dodge it as best he could.

After quite a while, Clara reawakened, lying flat on the floor with her mum still on top of her. She was perfectly capable of getting up, but she didn’t want to wake Mama abruptly, especially with her sleeping so soundly.

“Um... anyone h- here? I’m, um, a bit stuck...”

Kim: "I believe so." (She turns to Will and Fuka.) "Would you like to come with?"

They're doing the two Gym Leader testing thing as you might recall, so there's either the Fighting-type Gym Leader Bea or the Ghost-type Alister. Heard interesting stuff about them, like how Bea's a prodigy in Galarian karate and Alister's capable of seeing Ghost-types after an incident he had at four.

Channah: Oh that's right. Huh. Hey, you should take one and I'll take the other and then we can compare. even though I sorta wanna beat up both

Suzie: Best of luck to both of you. (to Will) Given what you said earlier, can I assume you won't be joining us to watch?

Will nods with more assurance than he's shown up to this point.

Suzie: That's fine. In that case, I'm giving you something else to do. Your homework assignment, whether you choose to accept it or not, is to learn as much as you can about the Standing Stones in town.

Will's expression falls as soon as Suzie says the word "homework", and becomes active dismay as she goes on.

Suzie: Historian, remember? I expect you to at least tell me about the stones' riddle before we leave the stadium and, just to make sure you don't slack off or try to do something sneaky, Sami will be your chaperone.

Sami blinks and turns to Fuka.

Sami: <Will you be staying behind, too?>

Fuka: I wanna see more Dynamaxing!

Sami: <In that case...> (Sami gestures to Suzie) <Keep her out of trouble.>

Fuka (salutes): Yes, ma'am.

Suzie: Hey!

Silas strided into the manor and into the central dining room, "Group meeting everyone!" He called out marching forward.

Roxy rushed over, "Something up?"

"First expedition was rough, we need to rethink what we're doing."

Roxy blinked, "Oh... are you okay?"

Silas gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, "No... got a knot in the back of my brain."

Roxy frowned a bit, "Hm."

Silas instantly realized, "Iron Defense."

Knight flew in front of Silas and raised his shield, blocking them both, this would hopefully protect them.

"No understanding of tone or rhythm, you have less grace than Gene Kelly, and he said he was a freight train compared to Fred Astaire!"

Paige Manor, Past

Upton approached the dining hall, carrying his rotom with him. He sat down, as far away from most of the others as he can.

Phineas: Also, you have a message from Thomas. He'll be near the Wedgehurst area due to an impromptu change of plans.

Upton: Terrific. Tell him that we're in some place called Paige manor trying to interview its owner. Though what he has to say might be enough to describe the weird vibes in this place.

The rotom in the device complied.

Evelyn: Yeah! Let's go!

-Nightingale appears in the hall. For anyone who wasn't on the little ruins jaunt this is the first time they're seeing the low-tech ripped-directly-from-Skyrim version of Nightingale's armor-

I took little damage, I'll be ready to go again as soon as possible.

Suzie: Okay, back to the stands.

Fuka: Woo!

Suzie and Fuka walk off towards the stands to watch the next match, Suzie's Unown Waka floating behind them.

Will, Puri, and Sami begin to leave the stadium when Will stops, turns, and finds his Cubone Ronin is not following them.

Will: You want to watch the matches, don't you?

Cubone: <I do! I want to see more about how this Dynamax stuff works!>

Will considers, then nods.

Will: Fine, (Ronin immediately turns to follow Suzie and Fuka) but don't tell me about any of the fights later, (Will yells as Ronin gets furhter away) and stay with Fuka!

Ronin waves his bone as acknowledgement of the order. Fuka turns at the shout of her name and sees Ronin coming to her. She picks him up and follows behind her mother.
