-Shaun tilts his head next to Mason, pondering.-

-His custom oufit reminds one of Cynthia - blacks and grays, like a moving shadow, a longcoat just like the Sinnoh Champion's. The back is emblazoned with a purple 413 and a stiched version of Cynthia's signature.-

Shaun: "I dunno. I like the spectacle of it all. Better than beating a leader quietly and quickly. Or the televised Champion battles."

-Isbrand stands near the front, a white and black version of the standard uniform. Except she has a crop top style white biker's jacket with 31 on the back - the same jacket Lita got her.-

Isbrand: "I think it's illegal for me to be in front of all these women in short sleeves and a pair of shorts."

I procrastinated a bit on getting this in, but this is my characters' introduction into the Galar region. labeling it "(past?) in case it's not too late to incorporate them into the Gym Challenge, but it's no big deal if it is. Fuka's not a competitive battler and Will's got hangups when it comes to fighting Gym Leaders.

Motosoke Station - Galar (Past?)

A train from Wyndon pulls into the station, dropping off passengers and taking new ones on. Among the departing passengers are two young Pokemon Trainers.

The first is a girl of thirteen, with shoulder length brown hair that sticks out in spots in a manner resembling a Sharpedo fin; she's dressed in a dark blue jacket and lighter blue skirt. At her belt are two standard Poke Balls and two Poke Balls whose top halves were colored in a camouflage design.

The second is a younger boy, sandy blonde hair and green eyes. He wears a jacket much like the girl's, but brown like a pilot's flight jacket. At his belt were four standard Poke Balls and one of the camouflage-topped balls. On his shoulder is a Jigglypuff, a Pokemon not native to Galar.

Where the girl leaps out of the train, exuberant and full of energy, the boy has to be practically dragged out of the train car before the doors close on him.

Fuka (yanking the boy through the station): Come on, Will, we're finally in Motostoke! There's so much to do! The Wild Area! The Gym Challenge! The Wild Area! The Galar Mines! The Wild Area!

Will (pulling himself free from Fuka: I get it, you want to go to the Wild Area. I'm fine with it, so let's get going.

Fuka suddenly stops in her tracks.

Fuka: We~ll if that's what you want to do. You're the guide, so I'll follow what you say.

Will raises an eyebrow at the odd about-face.

Will: Why am I the guide?

Fuka: Well you're from Galar right? You know the sights and what's cool and what's boring.

'Will (averting his eyes): I hardly ever left Wyndon except for a field trip or two... (looks back at Fuka)'' Besides, it's not like there's any hurry. We already missed the Gym Challenge Opening Ceremony, and it's not like we were entering anyway.

Fuka: Did you want to enter?

Will (shakes his head): Not really. I'm more interested in who's fighting the Gym Leaders than I am the leaders themselves. (eyes Fuka suspiciously) Why do you keep asking me what I want to do? You're usually fine doing whatever.

Fuka (pats Will on the head): And that's exactly why Mom said she wanted you to take the lead here. This is your home region, there's gotta be something you want to do?

Will: Then can we just go home?

Fuka (exasperated): Will...

Will: I'm sorry, it's just this place has some mixed feelings for me.

The Jigglypuff on Will's shoulder nuzzles up against his cheek. Will's hand absently reaches up to pet her

Fuka (to herself): Which is the other reason Mom suggested we come to Galar.

Okay so uh... Let's run down the list. There were a lot of what I believe we call 'newbies' on that raid, I prefer the term 'untrained civilians we friendshipped into our highly-dangerous social circle' but the fact remains that for some of them they were only part of the Team for a month tops when we basically shipped the entire squad out to a plausibly lethal engagement with a multiversal threat.

-He takes a deep breath and tries to get his thoughts in order-

In the Badlands it was just... A brawl. No strategy, entirely on our foe's terms, heck it was only right before they left that anyone had the idea to teleport onto their vessels and prevent a mass teleport which hey guess what that person was me. And sure I didn't lock Izaya down but it still got me a warp badge for the place.

And then we had the Demon Tide. Not only another incredibly dangerous paramundane threat most people on the Team were utterly unprepared for, it was also one we wasted time fighting when we had the means to make a portal to the Final Shell or evac our wounded and unprepared... But no fine, let's fight the invincible storm for precious few minutes before it's obvious to everyone but me that it can't be defeated.

-There's a pause, Pent considering waiting for a reply before continuing anyways-

Okay so this one is my flaw, a good ol' personal one for me; I went off alone into the depths of the base and got into more trouble than I could handle. Almost got me and my team killed in that Power Plant and I am pretty sure I outright killed some people in my pain-hazed, Nexus-rush of a Gaster spam. That's all on me, that is personal responsibility that I've come to terms with.

But then this Team, our Team, decided to just kick a defeated and unarmed foe when he's down. You and I, we refrained but... But there were a lot of people who shouldn't of been there in the first place handling this situation like the unprofessional and emotionally unstable people they were at the time. And I get it, none of us knew that acting like that was exactly what Izaya wanted, but that's not an excuse. And I'd rather not get started on how the literal space god we had with us acted unilaterally to effectively execute our foe with no regard for the laws of the mortals...

-He lets our the last bits of his deep breath before trying to find some kind of summary-

The fight against the big egg was just... It came down to having the right power boost at the right time. Narrative convenience sure. "It all worked out in the end" and all that, doesn't make it not feel like an absolute mess...

So. I'm... I'm stepping back from the J-Team for a while. I'll keep up my obligations with Misters Clavis and Grant but the small stuff? The everyday interaction with the new random civilians who get the poison kiss of being befriended by a Team member, I'm out.

-He pauses-

If the world comes under threat, I'll be there. But I don't think I can take another mess like this whole Mobius saga...

-Takes a moment before responding-

Well, I'm not sure if I'd agree with everything you just said, but what happened with Izaya was absolutely a mess. I suppose one I should've foreseen since we'd been fighting Frankly, mostly hiding up until Izaya's plan to get me out of the way backfired big time on him Mobius long enough for the enmity to get deeply personal.

I understand why La did it, Izaya did have them as his Necrozmatized slave for several months, but I don't know how things would've turned out if Multiman wasn't there and Judith and the Wanderer weren't willing to help bail us out. It's hardly the worst thing we've done as a group, or even as individuals, but it did fuck us big time. Because of it Izaya's still out there to wreak havoc, and he will come back for us eventually, I have no faith that the Alliance will take care of him first.

-Darkly-

Perhaps you've noticed I've limited my interactions with the rest of the group save for those that are absolutely necessary, Channah and I hanging out by ourselves isn't just for some couple's time together.

The J-Team's always been a volunteer outfit, I understand and accept your departure, but I can't exactly turn away for too long. Otherwise we're getting kicked out of every region's hotels again, and people's opinions of us sour. I wish the others as a whole would understand that we can't pretend that we're just some random trainers anymore, we've become something far more important and powerful than that.

You know, Izaya's words from that phone conversation we had still haunt me.

-Pacing-

He said one day we may end up having our own skills turned against us. That didn't happen in the Badlands or in the Shell, but I don't think it was merely a taunt.

-Sighs-

But I think I'm getting a bit off task. I couldn't stop those new folks from joining us since there were far too many moving parts, they're lucky they didn't die, but one day that luck might run out. Neo-Flare for instance is still out there, and if how the Badlands raid went down is any indication they'd just end up riddled with bullets, or Constantin tortures and then kills them for sport.

-Frustrated-

It's like I'm thinking, "Let's try for a bit more OPSEC you guys." and everyone else is like, "Let's go park all our airships super close to one another, or just invite people we don't know well in and give them the means to speak Monese without any vetting." I don't mention most of the stuff I have anymore because I'm pretty sure they'd blab about it to the next passerby.

Come on guys, let's be a little smarter about the whole thing, I know our strength is our ability to recruit just about anyone, but I feel like we were a bit smarter about this starting out than we are now.

Then again, it's really only the two of us and DS sometimes who are left from the really old days.

-During the opening ceremony, a certain figure is shying away from the spotlight for once in her career. She is attired somewhat similarly to Rogue, every inch of skin covered by some skintight material - however, its colour is a deep, tropical green as opposed to the usual grass-green of her outfit. She is still wearing white thigh-high heels and long red gloves, but over the top of her costume is a modified Grass-type uniform with a short skirt and a shirt with the number "403" across the back. Her face and expression are completely concealed by a petalled, Roserade-themed helmet.-

Interpol HQ - Past

Inspector O'Sullivan: No. No way.

Alice: Hear me out-

Inspector O'Sullivan: The brass would have my head on a pike for even suggesting something like that. And I'm not exactly on their Christmas list to begin with.

Alice: It's not as unreasonable a proposition as you're making it out to be. There is already a certain level of unofficial cooperation between Interpol and the Aurabolts.

Inspector O'Sullivan: Right, because you keep making messes that we then have to clean up. Don't think I've forgotten about Banshee. If anything, you owe me a favour for that one.

Alice: This is a request, not a favour. A League sponsorship would help legitimise our operations in Galar, making my job easier-

Inspector O'Sullivan: -and my life harder. For the last time, Alice, the answer is no.

-Alice is silent, but doesn't rise to leave. It's a few moments before she speaks again.-

Alice: You're on the Macro Cosmos investigation, right?

Inspector O'Sullivan: How did you know-

Alice: You know I can't tell you.

-O'Sullivan sighs and rolls his eyes exasperatedly.-

Alice: How is it coming along?

Inspector O'Sullivan: ...Not well. It's hard to tell just how corrupt the organisation itself is, and most of those assholes have too much money for us to even consider touching. Doesn't help that between them they own pretty much every inch of dirt in Galar. Nobody wants to spearhead an investigation that'll end up undermining an entire region's infrastructure.

Alice: What if I said I could help?

Inspector O'Sullivan: I appreciate the offer, but I can't put you on the case in any official capacity. I'm at my-

Alice: No need. I've been working on it already.

-She clicks open the briefcase by her side and produces a thick sheaf of papers, sliding them over the desk to O'Sullivan.-

Alice: This is still a work-in-progress, compiled in collaboration with a legal expert who, for security reasons I'm sure you understand, must remain anonymous. Nevertheless, it is three hundred pages of receipts and assorted evidence exposing various League officials who were on Macro Cosmos payroll, as well as other crimes and misdemeanours company executives were involved in.

-O'Sullivan blinks, and spends a solid minute skimming through the papers, his eyes widening as he does. Once finished, he looks over the top of them at Alice.-

Inspector O'Sullivan: ...How did you get all this?

Alice: I've been busy these last few months.

Inspector O'Sullivan: Heh. No doubt.

-His smile fades and he narrows his eyes at Alice.-

Inspector O'Sullivan: ...This isn't a quid pro quo thing, is it? You bribe me with evidence I need in exchange for a shot at the Galar League? Because I could just confiscate this all right now and-

Alice: Nothing of the sort. The information I have provided is yours, and I will continue to supplement it as my own investigation continues. Consider it a gesture of goodwill.

-O'Sullivan lets out a loooooooong sigh and leans back in his chair, remaining silent for a good while. Eventually, he steeples his fingers and speaks again.-

Inspector O'Sullivan: ...Alright, here's the deal. The higher-ups will rake my ass over the coals for it, but if I tell them what you've told me and throw in a healthy amount of ass-kissing on top, I should be able to get you on the ticket.

Alice: The sponsorship isn't for me. It's for Gaia of the Aurabolts.

Inspector O'Sullivan: Yeah, and Commissioner Gordon doesn't know that Barbara is Crobatgirl. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

-Alice is silent, and O'Sullivan continues.-

Inspector O'Sullivan: However. There's no way we as an organisation can get away with sponsoring just a vigilante. It'll completely undermine public faith in us. What we can do is sponsor you on a joint ticket alongside one of our agents, a respectable face to demonstrate that we are cooperating with - and keeping in check - groups such as yours. Plus it shows the Galar League that we've still got an eye on them.

-He stands up and gives another thin smile.-

Inspector O'Sullivan: Normally, I'd be unwilling to pull anyone off a case for something like this, but you're in luck. I have a young officer who's not on active duty at the moment - like me, he has a bad habit of pissing off the brass. He'd be perfect for a PR exercise like this.

Alice: ...You're saddling me with a mascot?

-O'Sullivan chuckles.-

Inspector O'Sullivan: Trust me, he's not going to be any happier about this than you are.

Motostoke Stadium

-Next to Gaia, and seemingly even more ill-at-ease under the spotlight, is a short young man with dark skin and hair dressed in a simple navy-blue uniform marked with Interpol branding and the number "282" across the back. He's self-consciously rubbing his arms and appears to be attempting to hide beneath his blue newsboy hat as best as possible. This isn't helped by the fact that he's conspicuously aware of two individuals in the crowd.-

Dani: Woooo! Go Shun!

Tara: I can't believe we're here to cheer on a cop. This feels dirty.

The party would find themselves traveling through a surprisingly intricate labyrinth that sprawled several floors throughout the Submerged Citadel, which behaved like a typical Mystery Dungeon in reverse, where the goal was instead to make it to the top floor of this mysterious location. Aside from some basic platforming, there was the occasional encounter with standard fare water and even rock type mons from various regions. At times, the group would even have some swimming segments to overcome, with some instances appearing to defy basic physics for the sake of "platforming fun."

"Well I tell you there's nothing like having to double jump into a suspended body of water to swim up another level," Travis said, reveling in the absurdity of the place that seemed to rely a bit too heavily on magic to justify its existence outside of having fun with gameplay mechanics.

Streets of Motosoke (Past?)

Will and Fuka walk the streets of Motostoke. Will is carrying his Jigglypuff in his arms in front of him and dragging his feet as he walks. Fuka is several paces in front, glancing back to make sure he's still behind her. After a few blocks, Fuka frowns and pulls out her Rotom phone, a gift each of them received before setting out, and sends a text message.

Fuka (thinking): This isn't going to work, Mom. He's not interested in the Gym Challenge. On top of that, we just got here and he's already wanting to go home. We're just wandering around and he's barely looked at anything.

Unnoticed by Fuka, Will is glancing in the direction of the Cafe

-Rogue shrugs.-

Rogue: Perhaps an imperfect impression is necessary for my needs; according to the audience, I am an apparent actor, not the authentic article, after all.

-The mask winks, and then Rogue turns to Shun.-

Rogue: But, yes. We've met, if only in passing. In fact, I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot, and I'd like to amend that.

-They extend a hand for a handshake.-

-Gaia gives a haughty laugh at Rogue's comment.-

Gaia: Aren't we all actors? We are playing a role, after all, and the guises we've chosen provide a convenient screen of anonymity and plausible deniability. There's no evidence that any of us are the genuine article... except, of course, for the fact that I would know you anywhere. It is good to see you here, even if I hardly expected to.

-Shun, meanwhile, stares hard at Rogue's hand but doesn't take it.-

Shun: That is one way to put it. I'm not sure of the circumstances under which you appear to have acquired some degree of legitimacy, or why you and Gaia here are on such good terms, but if you wish to make amends then I will need to see actions rather than platitudes.

Gaia: Their record with the Aurabolts doesn't count?

Shun: I'm still skeptical of your entire organisation. I wouldn't be here with you at all if the Inspector hadn't ordered it.

Turrfield, A restaurant by the Chalk Hill Figure, Feb. 14.

After an exhilarating ride down the motorways across Routes 3 and 4, Flash and Shutter settle down on a fancy restaurant's private venue, which was strewn with flower petals. A string quartet playing [Spice Girls] music—Flash's favorite 90s band and a cultural institution in Galar. From their secluded and romantic candlelit corner, the Chalk Figure was visible.

Flash: Okay, I understand that the whole mixup of which side of the road we were supposed to be driving was kinda awkward, but I just... I dunno, I love what you did here. Like, all this time, you could be extra if you wanted to.

Shutter: Hehehe. Yeah. I mean I could go all cliché with my grand romantic gestures. Or I could celebrate our first Valentine's together doing something you and I would find fun and just make it slightly more over-the-top than usual.

Flash: And there's the low-effort man I fell in love with.

Shutter: You know me like a book. Tell me, did you totally believe we were just going to "rent a car and go sightseeing?"

Flash: Part of me wanted to.

Shutter: And we did. But we rode a flower-encrusted [Aston Martin] that you drove really fast on the motorway like in the commercials.

Flash: I enjoyed every second of it.

She could see Shutter get an acoustic guitar.

Shutter: Now, back in my homeland, we had a longstanding tradition of serenading our intended, usually while said love was overlooking them from the bedroom window.

Flash: Like the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet but with a guitar?

Shutter: But we don't have that here, so.

He began to play a soft guitar song, while backed by the string quartet. Shutter knew there was supposed to be lyrics to that song, but he chose not to sing it. Besides Galarian, Flash only knows [Spanish], which he could barely speak.

Flash loved it anyway.

An Angry Galarian Farmer comes running, followed by a possé of angry dubwools and a sobble perched on his shoulder.

Farmer Hogarth Beckett: So! It's ye who've been rollin' me wooloo down the hill! Quit larkin' around and git outta my property, ya daft twat! Else ye gonna be on the wrong end of an angry Dubwool!

Beat.

Farmer Beckett: Alright. Five angry dubwool.
