That's actually a pretty unexpected lineup. Not an unwelcome one, mind. Actually it's pretty much what I wanted that I was capable of realistically expecting.
Glad to see they got Toei off their ass about Fighterz.
Bleye knows Sabers. For the last time, it wasn't Toei's doing. If you're going to toss blame, make sure it's the people actually at fault.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to justify the idea that Toei has any capability whatsoever to do anything to Namco / Bandai, or tournament handlers in general.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. If it was shueisha i'd understand, but Toei does not have that level of authority. So blaming them for any of this is silly.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Damn, no Guilty Gear.
I guess Figherz really is their golden child now.
I'm actually surprised UNIB made it in over Guilty Gear. In fact, a lot of the sites I've seen have a lot of players questioning its inclusion over GG.
REV 2 is a two year old game that's received no meaningful updates aside from balance patches and isn't really a mainstay like SF is. Nor has it been getting the push and fan support that the newer UNIST has.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterI mean it's not so much that I think GG is a huge franchise (it's always been more of a cult favorite) and more that I don't know all that many people who actually play Under Night. Not knocking it. I just had no idea there was a decent scene for it.
Melee is gone, but its spirit will live on as everyone plays Ultimate with those Gamecube controllers they sell for the Switch.

Believe it or not, UNIST has been matching GGXRD in entrant numbers for major/regional tournaments recently. While it is unfortunate for GG players it's not like it came out of nowhere. Plus a lot of its players are very sympathetic to a game that's been bubbling as a cult hit but can't ever make a major breakthrough, considering 20 years ago that was where GG itself stood.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughThanks for the info. Very interesting. I'll have to read up on UN, since I always thought the character designs were neat.
Good for UNIEL, but that does leave me sad about XRD's fate.
Hmm, so it's not completely gone, that's good. With DBFZ, Cross Tag Battle and UNIB as main events, plus Xrd and CF as side events, that means EVO is practically being dominated by Arc System Works games. Funny how just a few years back people thought it was a mostly Capcom-dominated event.

Gavan, Let's get jiggy!Every fighting game under the sun has an EVO side tourney, though Arc Sys themselves hosting it is noteworthy
Including Shaq Fu?
Where there's life, there's hope.So, I've been wondering:
Does fighting games have a big three? As in the three biggest fighting game series that fans know?
I mean, The King of Fighters and Street Fighter could be seen as the big two, but who would take that third slot?
Tekken? Soulcalibur? Guilty Gear?
One Strip! One Strip!Tekken most certainly. It's the best selling fighting game franchise on the market and is probably the most common in arcades, as few as they are nowadays.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughIf we're going by sales numbers though Mortal Kombat would be in the there.
Bleye knows Sabers.I think in terms of visibility and cultural relevance a big three would be something like Street Fighter, Tekken, and Smash Bros.
If you're feeling traditionalist you can swap out Smash for Mortal Kombat, which is really odd sentence to type.

I love how Fighting EX Layer is legit the April Fools Day fighting game. It's, like, an important part of the game's history and tradition at this point: something significant has to happen with that game every year on that day (starting, of course, with the game's very existence).
To note, this time they released the game on IOS as a joke.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I just hope Fighting Ex Layer is still doing well. I hope Terry's inclusion improves the game's sales
No Melee? Finally.
